This is a beautiful weeping tree to begin with, but making it a "slanted cascading" style is truly going to make this tree so striking and unique. Great work!
Hey David, Thank you so much!! I am actually thinking of making it a weeping root over rock next Spring, which I think will elevate this tree to the next level.
So glad I came across this video... 3 years ago I found a nightshade tree growing in my eavestrough around the same time I was getting interested in bonsai (thanks to all the videos on youtube) and thought I would make it my first endeavor for a bonsai... I have been amatuerishly training it into "weeping style" without knowing that there actually WAS a weeping style 😁😁😁... I have tightly bound with rope the 7 "trunks" hoping they will fuse together into one thick trunk, made my own shallow freestyle pot from cement and training it with wire which will be easier NOW THAT I KNOW TO DEFOLIATE IT FIRST👍👍👍
The tree looks great I wouldn't have thought to use an elm in that way. I have been growing a bunch of weeping willow cuttings to try this style. I kina thought they would weep on there own bu it seems it will take a fair bit of wiring to make it happen. Thanks for the lesson.
Hi! To my understanding real weeping willows are not well suited for bonsai training as they do not respond to bonsai training too well. Also, apparently they do not like being grown in pots. The naturally weep but it takes years for them to start weeping.
Holy moly, thank you for mentioning the wiring intensive part of making a weeping willow. I have 6 I started from cuttings this spring, so I will be busy if I want them all weeping! I heard wiring causes die back because they don’t like it…..has that been your experience? Love your videos, and clear instructions!!👍
When you have the wire bite in....do you put your next application of wires in the opposite spiral direction? I feel like that would create a pattern that would break up the first spiral pattern.
Has anyone tried splitting the trunk of a weeping willow bonsai to promote a thicker trunk? I know it's not the typical species for trunk splitting, but it's a vigorous tree. Might have to try it to find out
Hey Ross, Is the apron necessary to style the tree? not really!! However, it does keep the sap off my cloth and sometimes the wire can snag a hole into your shirt if it gets caught.
Amazing work on this tree!! I wish I could see more in detail how you’re wiring it and techniques 😍 very cool!
I really like what you have done. I think I would like to try my hand at this.
I love it. She is georgous.

I found willows to be a less documented bonsai, this was super helpful.
Wow!!! Great Job!!!
Really nice stock to work with, I’m most impressed with your style of bends, super cool. I love y’all’s stuff, versatile.
Thanks so much!
She's a beauty but that sure is a lot of work. I have a whole new appreciation for whoever does weeping style.
Thank you Michael! This is exactly why I only have one. lol!
❤FROM Kerala .India..

I think it looks awesome!
Beautiful
I love it buddy, keep it up!
Amazing, it really looks so beautiful after defoliation as u get to see entire structure, at 10.10 min its a completely transformed tree👌🤝🌳

@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply Thanks I have had the willows for a few years now. So far so good I guess time will tell if I can make them work. Cheers

Wonderful
Very interesting and beautiful 👍👍
Thank you Carlos !

Thank you so much Sarah!

i just realized that my cuttings come from thin cuttings and my growth is good but i don't have a nice thick trunk to work with

Big like
Looks like a weeping willow, love it! What species is the tree you used?
Hey Sam, Thank you! It is an American Elm.
@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply I thought it was an elm, just not familiar with the American elm👍
@@samyoel5384 same thing, it is a type of elm
@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply I have few English and Chinese elm, American elm not so readily available in uk
Looks good, but if you use a naturally weeping species you won't have the virtical growth issue.
Is the apron really necessary :p

@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply lmfao i know man im just playing around its all good haha
@@rosshopkins2063 I’m also just playing around 😉😂😂😂
@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply no....i am playing around.
That’s so funny 😀😀😀😀😀😀👋👋😄
I don’t think I’ll ever try a weeping style, wiring and me don’t get along
The only way to get good at wiring is by doing it over and over again :)
Love your videos but please change your mic, I can’t hear when u speak and the music is so f**** loud, it’s so annoying
Complete defoliage would kill a marijuana plant lol
I dont think it would, defoliation is all about timing!
