Haha, just checked if there is something new from Jerome... and bang the video was there. the afternoon is saved. many thanks and greetings from Germany. Well done Jerome. No one can go wrong now.
I am a newbie here and just repotted my first ever bonsai 3 days ago. The leaves are droopy which makes me worried. Its first ever video that mentions the important information of keeping some old soil intact. I wish I would have come across this video before. I hope my tree revives.
@@anthonylopez4013 it depends on the tree and soil if you’re repotting a strong Acer just before it breaks bud, and the old soil is very organic based, I would jet the roots clean with a hose before replacing it with an inorganic soil. Conifers usually need their soil changed gradually, especially pines that rely in certain fungi in the old soil to feed its roots
Your videos are great!!! You always give us such good advice. Your videos make it visually easier for us beginners to assimilate it and learn. Thank you Jerome ❤️ we are fortunate to have such a good teacher ❤️
Thank you for this video! I got a bonsai gifted to me. It was my late father's bonsai plant. It needs to be replanted and the tips and advice you gave were great.
Great Bonsai 101 on Transfer Potting a Large Bonsai. I just started my collection a few months ago and i have killed two small bonsai's due to the fact I didn't repot with the proper soil that goes with a Juniper tree. With your tutorial, I can safely also water it properly. Didn't know the soaking part and the shaded for two weeks before setting back out to the full sun..
This was very straightforward and informative, even relaxing. Thank you. I'm looking forward to repotting a young little old gold juniper next Spring. I've been caring after him for more than a year now. I was supposed to do this last year but with the pandemic and all I had to postpone it.
Very nice and clear instructions….. big help for seniors but beginners on bonsai art , thank you! Do you have videos on wiring too? I hope they are as clear and easy as this video….
Jerome, thank you for a detailed guide on how to repot! I’m a newbie and I find your guides the most useful i’ve come across so far! Any specific advice on how to take care of my first Fraxinus bonsai? And btw.. when will you guys start shipping to Sweden? 😁 Keep up the good work!!
Jerome, I echo what everyone is saying…your videos are relaxing, VERY informative and you give confidence to us beginners. When starting off with a nursery tree, is cutting the tap root still a common practice?
Hey, thank you! Very clear repotting guide, I am going to repott my ficus ginsening in this way. Only..it is smaller than the one in the video. So maybe I do not need to put a wire?
Great video! Can you guys do one on growing a tree to bonsai later? Like from nursery to growing and training? Also maybe a video on non bonsai pots for growing trees? Thanks!

Jerome, after rewatching this I’m wondering. Won’t the water absorption and drainage into the two different soils make it difficult to maintain even watering? Thanks

Hello the video really show me how to do it thank you very much. What part of United State you are. I am from Guatemala City please respond my question. Thank you
I NEED HELP. I got my jupiter bonsai tree 3 days ago. The soil is 40% peat moss, 30% dune sand, 15% perlite and 15% bark dust. I have been researching saying peat moss holds moisture which isn't ideal for bonsai. Sould i change my soil? Or leave him alone until next early spring?
It is a bit late to repot Junipers but if you are doing a very gentle repot you can still get away with it. This is the soil we use for all our bonsai trees: www.amazon.com/Bonsai-Purpose-Draining-Calcined-Supply/dp/B07M68B4JG/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=bonsai+soil&qid=1619610231&sr=8-7
Hi Jerome. Won't you get problems with root rot, leaving 20 to 30 % of the prebonsai soil, as it's going to retain more moisture for longer than the new bonsai soil? Thanks Lourens
Hey Lauren’s, it is actually detrimental that you leave 20-30%. The roots of the tree are used to the black soil. That’s why we trim the roots back to the old soil level and fill in with new soil so that the roots can grow into the now soil at their own pace. The next time I’ll repot I’ll remove another 50% of the remaining black soil and the year after the remainder.
Yes that is absolutely fine. You want to make sure that you keep temperate trees above 40 Fahrenheit after repotting. You can keep them in full sun if it stays above 40.
Hi, only use black soil in the very first repotting, but don't mix in extra black soil with bonsai soil. you just want to leave about 30% of the original black soil around the rootball and fill in the edges of the pot with fresh good bonsai soil. a year later wash out all of the black potting soil and do straight 100% bonsai soil only
I’m very brand new to bonsai, but I watch this video and found it very useful…. From the uk 🇬🇧

Danke Stefan, new videos every Wednesday 🙂 I’m glad I was able to save your afternoon 😆
Great video, it is very important to keep 30% of the soil, 2 trees of mine died because I washed the roots.

Why would you wash the roots they are meant to be dirty LOL

Can you keep all of the old soil if it's going to a bigger pot?
@@GLOCK144. that depends on the soil quality. Pines don't like removing all the old soil.
Always repot after the buds are breaking.
Really appreciate the update. I was curious haha. Otherwise you're a great teacher! Answered all my questions from my last failure to repot bonsai :0

Good, I like your step.
And I can lean English lange from your clip, Thank you so much
Great tutorial.
Is it ever safe or advisable to repot in early summer? Thanks
It really depends on your climate, in south Florida yes but anywhere else no. Deciduous spring, junipers and pines winter and tropicals summer
I’m going to attempt this today - wish me luck😂

Hi!! Very good video...Can u please suggest size of this pot...
I am going to be repotting my Jades. Do I also leave them in the shade for two weeks and water daily? I normally water them every two weeks.
Great!
Does leaving it in the shade for 2 weeks go for every tree or just junipers?
Im confused, if i use akadama for helping with draining , do i apply the soil on top of the akadama ? Then pot the bonsai ?
could your first cut have been left on as a sacrifice branch to help thicken the base and removed much later?
i wanna know what kind of soil your using please
thanks in advanced

Is it okay to put my newly repotted trees back in my garage? My area has no shady spots, so that seems like the only viable spot.
