Paul you all do good work and have fun doing it I like all the cars and trucks what I can't wait to see is the jeep done I think it is the coolest thing ever
I'm curious how tall it is with the FJ on it.
In some cases it is better too use a better drill, IE a electric one.
aluminum can corrode when in contact with steel or other metals with different electrode potentials. Bolting Aluminum to steel. Paint is one way, but you already bolted it together, you might consider using a sacrificial anode, (ZINC just like on a BOAT) which is a material that has a more negative electrochemical potential than the metal it’s protecting. This helps to divert current away from the metal that needs protection, thus reducing corrosion. Put a few ANODES on it at least one for each piece of aluminum. Current from the trucks electrical system will pass through and will speed up the corrosion. PUT ZINC ANODES ON.
Shop is amazing, and the roll back is so cool, nice job all of ya, we love so much.
Let's all take a moment and remember those we have been grateful to help and defend. 🙏🏻🗽
It’s also take a moment to think of ways to help veterans with PTSD get the help that they need. We all say “support the troops”, but we actually need to support them before, during and after their service. Just applying for benefits nearly requires hiring a lawyer or a knowledgeable person to help you walk through it. Make it simple!
With a load on, scale the axles independently ,I think you will find that you need to extend the rear axle back to balance the truck so it will steer safely. Love the show, thanks
you cannot say that, Paul is that wild dog that once he has a bone, you will never convince him that his way could be made better or safest or functional if he does "X", your just going to end up getting rabbies after you get bit trying to offer help
@@Gantzz321 it's interesting that someone like you id making stupid comments about Paul when you haven't addressed the tilt angle of the bed. Moving the axles back screws up the tilt angle. Now maybe you need to apologize to Paul or not.
Gotta say this, i know nothing about building a flatbed, but that thing just don't look safe🙏🙏🙏. Love the new shop👍beautiful!!!
Yes, I would have went with a frame stretch from the git go....and dually axles
@@geneloebig1134 It will be fine!!
Paul, I worked as a welder for years. If you have Aluminum against steal, with out some kind of material in between, like Duck Tape, it will corrode. Although aluminum on its own has inherently superior corrosion resistance to steel, galvanic action between the aluminum and steel or galvanized parts can lead to severe corrosion. Google it.
I have seen a specific tape made to prevent that from happening. I don't know what they actually call it, but I bet Amazon has it.
Electrolytic conversion .when the two different materials are put together forms an electric current that causes the Galvanic action 👍👍👍
Fact. It can be hard to get steel bolts out of holes through aluminum.
@@tomaskey6844 Yep they’ll weld together better than bolts through steel without some sort of alloy or copper slip between them .
Yup, semi truck/trailers use a thin plastic gasket between steel and aluminum. Gotta have something.
The Rollback looks amazing, but the rear axel should be back further, for stability. Love the new shop, what a great looking bathroom.
I bet 10 bucks they gonna stretch the frame by a foot or more. I know the yota is a heavy crawler, but still.
Congratulations Landon... Graduating from high school was one of the happiest days of my life. Wishing you the very best future.
Love the show Paul, not matter what you, your family and crew are up to …thanks for taking us along.
Congrats Landon. Don’t ever stop learning new stuff. Knowledge is power.
PAUL please read. Worth your time.
PUT ZINC ANODES ON.

I saw a fifth wheel being removed from an aluminum framed truck and the corrosion was over an inch thick where the steel met the aluminum. I never saw anything like it.
Ditto.....
That doesn't work on cars. It never has and never will.
Anodes are not there to prevent dissimilar metal corrosion.
They're there to prevent electrolysis, which is stray electrical current in the water.
Two very different types of corrosion. And you still get dissimilar metal corrosion on boats.
@@agentcrm funny you say that when i copy pasted it from the google search on the subject. People smarter then me and you tells a different story. Some times it best to remain silent and be thought a fool, then to speak and have all doubts removed.
Thanks Paul, Sean and Hunter for the entertainment 😂😂😂
You guys deserve that shop breakrooom. Awesome place to chill and discuss projects etc.
Amazing work you all get done. Love the Thelma and Louise skit. They should do a road trip.
For future reference, the center of a Drill bit is called 'the land'. The land does not do any cutting as it is a chisel point. If you are drilling a hole through a frame with no pilot hole, you can relieve the backside (away from the cutting edge) of the land on both sides so it will cut. This makes drilling easier, and the drill stays cooler and last longer.
Split Point drill bit.
Worth the extra money for that purpose.
Also, glad Paul had him slow the drill down!
Just the smile on everyone’s face says it all. Took something from a junkyard and made it more reliable than a new truck with A LOT less “add blue”
Missed the opportunity to weld the nuts to the frame BEFORE the bed got welded down. That would make future Paul very happy to not have to put a wrench on them.
But if one strips
Maybe they still can with the bed up.
The pieces he welded are pinned to the frame and bolted
It doesn't come back apart without cutting
@@rodney1818 The Ali bed comes off. Those are just bolted to the tilt frame, as Paul said in the video.
@@agentcrm yeah I figured that out as I watched the rest of the video
Happy memorial day weekend! May Michelle's Dad rest in peace. Sorry for you guys loss. Praying for your family. I know that it is super hard on everyone especially the grandkids. So keep that in mind. It hurt my kids way more than I thought. Praying for your family 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Learning how to regrind your drill bits saves lots of money.
Or get a Drill Doctor.
@Fabrats, send Drill Doctor this video! They might sponsor you !!
The coolest part, you can sit down and sharpen drill bits.
Thank you Paul and everybody for the update on the Ratback and tour of the new shop ! The Ratback is awesome and so is the new shop ! Congratulations Landon on your graduation !
Welding under beds and such is why I keep fire blankets handy. I too am allergic to molten metal contacting my skin, especially in the reproduction department.
It is a good day when there's a new Fab Rats video. It is a great day when it includes Grandma Lolly.
When I viewed your very very earlier posts I must admit I didn’t particularly view your truck with scepticism an alarm and now that you have over haul all your trucks I’m full of Envy and appreciation because they look so mean, lean and flash. I like your style, Paul and Michelle
From an improvised apple vacuum treasure from the trash, to all that is Fab Rats today, I've been over here watching the hard work, blood, sweat and tears and shenanigans and such from the get-go and it's all been amazing. We even stopped by in Glendale a couple years ago.
Your success has been well worth my time.
Thanks Paul and crew.
I still want to see the apple picker working, don’t think it’s ever going to happen
It looked like Papa Darr was eyeballing that massage chair pretty hard! Might want to watch him. LOL
I noticed that too!!! It will be moved into one of the shop bays before long.😂😂
I said it when you first started that you need to stretch the frame and move the rear axle back a couple feet. That's scary looking.
The new shop looks amazing, and NOBODY deserves it more than you guys!
That truck is freaking sick. The best part is all of your trucks, etc are constant projects - makes it a ton of fun to watch. They are all different!
I see a wheelbase lengthening in your future. I would suggest that before cutting the bed for the dual clearance. 👍
Junior version of west coast/ California mirrors is more appropriate - fits better, smaller blind spots, and separate blind spot mirrors.
For my 54, it allows the mirror moved toward front and puts the blind spot caused by mirror in a better way
Paul, you are surely blessed in so many ways.. the best thing you and Michelle have ever built is a beautiful family and a wonderful community, you both should be very proud.. love your channel for so many reasons! ❤
Congratulations onthe son graduation, nice, shop, thanks BigAl California.
Hope the extended studs will take weight i had spacers on my truck and certain cars or land rovers would snap a stud had to have special studs made good luck guys.
Yes I agree the long studs are a very weak spot . A factory axle made for duals would have been way stronger
They have a dually rear end, why not put that in?
@@kimjaniszeski498 a dualy rear end and frame are narrower than a normal rear end so a dually rear end would not clear the bed
The small bed should help limit the load they can place on that truck. Plus any failures they have will just create more content 😮😅
not if taken from a pickup bed truck. @@icyphilippe
Its an awesome concept but honestly that wheelbase needs stretched at least 18 inches maybe more
Watching from the start, to see what you build and the progress of your workshop and facilities is great.
Hard workers with smiles 👍🏻
Rat Back will be much improved with duallys! I enjoy watching the variety of things you feature on your channel. Hope your channel hits the 1M mark soon, too!
The Ratback is looking awesome!
Hunter, you really gotta pull yourself together!!😉😁
The new shop and Michelle's office looks incredible. No way Hunter helped with that.😉
From someone that has driven a truck for 45 years, my opinion is that your rat back wheelbase is about 6 to 12 in too short and you should never have shortened that bed, but then it's not mine you built it for a very specific purpose and it will always be rear-end heavy
Yeah, the balance is way off. It needed to be longer to get the weight in front of the rear axle.
Congratulations on getting the bed on the ratback. That truck is looking good and sounds great too. My wife and I were passing thru Glendale the day you were finishing the bed. It was great the talk with Grandma Lolie for a while. We picked up a shirt and a tool bag while we were there. It was fun to look around your yard and see all the vehicles that you’ve worked on and built in your videos. Thanks Paul for taking a few minutes out of your busy schedule for a handshake and a picture. We even got to see Landon at Archie’s where we stopped for lunch. The Fabrat burger was great. Being in my 60’s, I’m a little old to be a groupie, but I will say that our time in Glendale was definitely a bucket list item. Thanks again.
My favorite hack for drilling holes like that is to use a quick grip woodwork clamp as a drill press. Saves going purple in the face. You don’t have to squeeze that hard either. Enough to start flexing the bar, lube the drill bit and take it slow
Rat back came out sweet!
New shop is way cool.
I do Epoxy floors for a living. I agree with the solid color.
There is a desired speed for the size of bit. The bigger the diameter, the slower you go. If you go fast, you burn it out.
That shop is AWESOME! You "guys" are AWESOME! Can't say enough about how entertaining and informative your channel is. The combination of Chad, Robbie, Matt et al with Fab Rats is Soooo Cool. Thank You ALL, and God Bless.
Paul you guys did a Fantastic job on the Ratback, I knew you guys would make it work 💪. Looking forward to seeing the duals on the rear soon👍. Now the new Fantastic Shop 👍, Michelle's Awesome office 👍, the kitchen/break area and Hunters work space WOW 😎 all looks Great 👍. Hope you all have a great week, thanks for the video 👍. Al
Congratulations on your new shop. It looks great. May you continue to prosper.
Good morning everyone!!
Congrats to Landon!
Looking good Michelle.
It was very nice to see Papa Dar again.
The little lady ought to b3 proud of what she did for the boys.
I got distracted from the shop tour when I saw the massive Mule Deer in Michelle’s office. Looks like a B&C for sure. And oh yeah the shop is awesome. Congrats. You guys are really down to earth and I admire how y’all connect all the dots.
I got distracted by the Tracker.
I had to go back and check it out . And yes it's big . A lot of ladies wouldn't want that in there Office. It shows how down to earth there whole family is ✓
@@Kevin-ti3rz yep you’re right. Good point.
Some of their older videos have some clips in the basement of their house. There are probably 4 or 5 deer that size or bigger. Very impressive.
New shop looks amazing, Michelle's office is also looking very nice
Sean is the coolest dude, he is very knowledgeable and very Hands-On and never brags about anything
After putting duals at the back, a second axle would do if she squats too much. Awesome build series Fab Rats family. I love the new shop setup!! It's really amazing!!👌👌✌️✌️🇰🇪🇰🇪
Pretty darn good. Not too shabby for Mountain Dew Engineering, Tape Measure Math, and Eyecrometer…
Congratulations to Lan!
Love the new shop!
Definitely should have stretched the chassis by about 6 feet.
Great job Paul and Michelle don’t worry about the bad comments you didn’t build it for them and who gives a rats butt what people think great looking Shop you guys are doing great keep it up
Haha love the ITS FINE SHIRT. Tell my wife that since hearing paul months ago. Hilariously it will be fine lol 😆 😂. Love you all and Michelle always sending my prayers to you and the family. Asking the good lord to heal your hearts 💕 with the loss of your father. Keep the faith and always remember the love he had for you all. Much love from Nevada. 🙏🏼 Congratulations Landon my boy will be Graduating 🎓 june 1st so proud. Good for him 👏🏼.
Rat Back is looking good. The new shop addition looks great too. Only thing you need now is another shop to park the “toys” in.
The Ratback looks fantastic and the FJ is glorious! Who cares if they aren't painted. Purpose built doesnt have to pretty. Just my opinion.
First off Michelle, you look fantastic. "Mississippi Queen" by Mountain, indeed. More Cowbell... Secondly all you need for a bathroom in a shop is a corner, a garden hose on a funnel hanging on a hook. The hose can run out on the ground or in a drain. Or a gutted automatic transmission mounted above a drain. Beyond that it is all fantasy. I am going over and I am subbed over there.
❤Best video to date. 33:31 that is a wonderful setup for the family, awesome day ahead to ya'll. Be blessed, Be safe.
Congratulations Landan on your graduation 🙌yay!
I think you'll find as you drive down the road, every bump and valley in the road will lift up the front end and make it hard to steer.
Apparently you have never driven flat deck before
@@michaelwyrick4046especially a diesel one
So the vehicle on it has the motor infront of the rear tire, 5.9 cummins up front (1000lbs), and the rest of the heavy truck upfront aswell so what math are you doing
Clearly you’ve never seen a rollback flat bed 3500 ram before have ya?? Cause they do make them. Fab Rats just made their own style of one
Horrible design in my opinion way to steep
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I don’t think it was designed for low riders 😅
I'm starting to like the old Isuzu cabover more😅
I'm kind of wondering. Who asked?
Good thing no one really cares about your opinion lol
Great shop, Fab Rats. Congratulations on the Ratback!! You guys have done a great job on it. Button her up. Should be a useful tool.
F.Y.I. As a retired industrial mechanic I ( we ) used GoJo and a chip brush to keep the bit cool while drilling metal. Also drill slower and let the bit do the work.
Congrats Landon! now the fun begins!
The rat back is looking great guys. The new shop is looking awesome
The rat back is awesome! So cool to see it rolling
That truck has been a great project! So wish more folks would take old stuff and make resto-mods to keep the old stuff on the road, instead of just running out buying new and leaving the old to rot away sitting.
Your drilling might go a lot easier if you drill smaller pilot holes first. This will allow the point of the bigger drill to enter the hole without resistance.
That new shop is awesome, I can’t wait for more fun things to get created ❤❤❤. Keep it up FabRats
Your new shop 🤩😳 👏
Your office 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 👀😳🤯
“Office “. Now that is what a reception must look like.
Shop cat fits right in 😂 Anytime is a good time for some jerky👍🏻 Love the channel, You guys are inspiring and show you can have fun working! So happy to see how far Hunter has come🤘🏻Fab Rats is where it’s at🤘🏻🇺🇸
Pauls dreams are coming true. Found his unicorn, his tow truck and now has the ratback to haul them.
Badass office!! And that Bathroom is the Bomb diggity !!
It sux you have to continuously prove to the "keyboard warriors" that you have a plan in your head and you know how to execute it.....and it works!
Keep doing you! Your crew and fam and you are killing it!
🤘👍💪
The rat back turned out awesome the new shop is sweet❤
When you get the duals mounted on the truck just make sure you leave enough room between the tires so plenty of air can keep the facing sidewalls from over heating and failing under load.
The new shop looks fantastic. In the past, I was turned off by this channel because you often cut corners. But you really did a great job on the new shop---clean and organized. 😎
A beautiful Rig. Please extend a frame to make it look more better.
The Ratback looks awesome! Can't wait to see it as a finished product
I've got an idea! Weld hooks on those ramps of yours, and then drill holes along the lip of that bed that line up with the hooks, every inch in both directions. That way they will never kickout, and it's adjustable. You're welcome
I have total shop envy right now. That is absolutely amazing 👏
Shop looks really nice . The family seems to be doing well too 🥰
I was 100% right Need to be 6 wheeler 3 axles , he’s like you said do it right do it twice 😁
Paul, turn your welding shirt around backwards. That will protect you. You'll be down a few cool points, but you'll be protected. 😊
Paul,
On your Rat Back truck, you will need to put a barrier between the aluminum tubes and the steel frame. When aluminum and steel are touching one another, they form a bond called “galvanization”. I know this because my wife had a car with aluminum wheels. I had not rotated the tires on this car for a few years. When I went to rotate the tires, I had to hit the tires/wheels with a 15-pound sledge hammer. I hit the tires/wheels so hard it almost knocked the car off the jack stands. Once I got the wheels off the car, I cleaned up the wheels and coated the back side of the wheels with grease. This was just enough of a separation to prevent it from happening again.
I suggest that you may need to put some type of gasket material between the two metals. Good luck at this finish touch of this project.
Invest in a drill doctor. Got tired of replacing drill bits and finally got one. I’ve salvaged many drill bits since and recouped the costs of the machine.
The rear wheel may well be right in the centre of the vehicle on the Ratback just like the truck you took it from, but unlike the truck you took it from, the tray is now shorter while the cab is longer. I just hope you have brakes and steering when you need them and no one gets hurt. Its probably too late to extend the chassis rails and wheelbase but you might find you need to.
The Rat-Back is turning out really sweet !….I wanna see it with the duals on it. Paul, I see you’re pulling your pants up a lot nowadays, you might want to upgrade to suspenders 😜
Start with the size you need to drill - make just a spot for the smaller drill to find center and drill all the way through with the smaller drill . Go to a bit bigger drill - then finish with the the size you need. Will make that drilling job much easier.let me know how that works for you. You guys are great ! Love your videos
First thing my dad taught me when using a drill and drill bits, was how to sharpen dull bits on a grinder. Saves money and they can be used until there is no more screw in it! Now a days you can buy a drill sharpening grinder that can be set up to sharpen the bit more precisely.
Very very cool, you should be proud of what you have accomplished!
some tractor style counter weights that are attachable to the front bumper would be a slick addition, and safer to drive . love the rig
That new shop looks like a great place to live!!!😃
New workshop and office looks great guys, thank you for the tour.. Love what you have done with the truck Paul. Cheers from down under.
Y’all need to stretch that frame and put a dually rearend in that beautiful truck
as much as ben is missed, shaun fits like a glove.
I love the tilt bed truck. You guys nailed it. I have to remember you guys are off road.
@32:20 Congratulations Landon!
