I would also recommend looking into annual subscriptions. You pay for an entire year and save a few bucks. Also cord cutting will save you on equipment rental fees.
I’ve said this before so I’ll say it again, you cannot count Internet in your TV cost anymore than you can electricity because internet has become a basic utility because so many things that we do require internet. However even if you wind up spending $70 or $80 on streaming services you are still saving almost $80 off of that $217 average which is nothing to sneeze at.
This was a very informative video. We were never able to cut the cord because we lived in an area with DSL internet. Later we lived in a place with wireless internet. And this was only 15 minutes outside of the suburbs of a decent sized city. A lot of people would be surprised how many places in the US don't have good internet. Everyone in our area had satellite tv or just used rabbit ears for local channels. We finally have good internet and can stream. It's not just seniors who can't cut the cord lol
Great video. I am already aware of pretty much everything you discuss, but I'm in the middle of moving and resetting up my home network and media center and needed something to watch during my lunch. Cheers!
Great video for beginners. I "cut-the-cord" about a year ago. I tried Roku and Amazon Fire TV. I settled on Amazon Fire TV 4K with Amazon Prime on my 4 TVs, PHILO and OTA TV with an Amazon 1TB DVR Amazon Recast box with 4 tuners. After an initial investment of about $700 for whole-house service, I now spend about $80/month, which includes internet ($50), Amazon Prime ($10), PHILO ($20), and, of course, my FREE OTA TV with 66 English channels - PLUS about another 60+ channels in various other languages. I WAS spending about $190/month. NICE SAVINGS!
Locast should also be mentioned for people who want live local TV stations and who don't want to fool with an antenna or pay for an expensive cable replacement streaming service.
just subscribed! I'm so happy I found this video. Lightning strike killed my TV. So it was a perfect time to cancel my overpriced cable. Now, I'm trying to figure out what to do *ugh* what TV to get and also which streaming service to go with. *ugh*
Personally, I use Hulu (ad supported), ESPN, Disney+ bundle, Amazon Prime Video, Curiositystream, Apple TV+, and YT TV. YT TV should have locals, as it has 100% coverage in the US
Nice information, it is very useful to cut down your cable bill, I use roku streaming stick and have PLUTO, peacock and tubitv, using 300 megabits per second, paying $45 per internet service.
If you want a decent streaming device I recommend the Xiaomi Mi Box S. It has a lot of support for apps and it doesn’t have advertising unlike amazon and roku. It’s also pretty cheap at $50 (at Walmart)
I was a bit surprised Locast was not mentioned for local live streaming. It is simple, free (with a $5 per month donation removed nag screens) and completely solved live TV viewing (no DVR of course) for me. It is not in all markets so that is the downside.
Reviews.org After “testing” Apple TV 4K, I’ve kept their “demo car” 😎. Very impressed with their platform, screen savers, etc. sans their remote; what a flimsy design, that is. The remote, the hard tile remains untouched, but I’d digress. Budget is not my concern, but in the new discovered universe of streaming, it is pretty subjective if budgeting is not a factor. So in the process of cutting and could use some advice. For a basic ranch house maybe 1200 square feet with a basement, one TV upstairs one downstairs, just a married couple in the house so no more than two tvs and/or two phones going at once, and going with fios, would you recommend an internet of 200, 300, 500 mbps or the gig?
200 Mbps will be just fine in that situation. I would anticipate that your maximum load required would be 50-60 Mbps, if you have two TVs running 4K video at the same time.
I think with the introduction of the Tivo 4k and the new Google device coming out code named Sabrina should make Android TV (which may be called Google TV in the future) a more affordable option. I think Android TV is the best streaming OS out there, (of course I may be biased because I'm a big Google user.) I have the Shield TV and the Tivo 4K streaming stick and as far as normal streaming the Tivo device works really well.

@@bz3086 No, there is a difference between analog and digital. Analog signals are a continuous range of values. Digital is 1’s and 0’s. Hey there, I have a few questions....& I’m kinda new 2 all of this so I will do my best 2 explain .😬Oh, for starters we have no home internet if it’s needed we can turn on our hotspot on our iphones(I don’t normally need 2 bc I have my iPhone & IPad Pro(both WiFi & cellular)but my husband’s chromebook on the other hand is not so we do have 2 use the hotspots from time to time ...him more than myself. We live in a VERY RURAL AREA (big time !!!)& things are very spotty out her like our connections, our FaceTime calls , streaming ,or just a reg. phone call...it’s just awful!!As I stated B4 we have no internet just WiFi/cellular on my iPad Pro & our phones both iPhone 8 with hotspots.Just recently upgraded with AT&T (2an unlimited cellular data plan & of course I got screwed with that deals as well oh well.. “It just kinda my thing.” Not a sure why that is it just is(won’t bore u w/that story.)But we cut the cord & I have been streaming on my iPad Pro & that’s getting a bit old(the situation..not the iPad the iPad is great!!!)I need something a bit bigger, So I in the process of ordering the GAEMS VANGUARD portable PGE(the 19” portable monitor & case & I’m so excited about it BUT I am also so pretty much clueless at the same time...I am in desperate NEED of some🗣 HELP!!🗣I have been trying my best to get ahold of the GAEMS company #1 I’m wanting 2make sure that it comes with everything I need if not I will have to buy some accessories from them or Amazon that’s no big deal but I’m sure that there are other additional things that I am going 2need to purchase along with some questions that I needed 2ask about compatibility & so on..etc.I need a gaming console & my main reason 4 the console itself is 2 just 2 stream ………movies ,tv shows ,NETFLIX,Hulu etc.& from what info. that I have gathered it’s pretty much the Xbox series s & x or the pS4(I’m leaning toward the Xbox but still not completely sure?!)Bc with no actual internet I don’t know if the consoles has WiFi built in??& All that I am mainly wanting the gaming consoles for is 2 stream my shows on something like Netflix, hulu or Amazon prime. So by now I’m sure that u can tell that I’m not very “tech savvy” I soooooo am not & if we are being totally truthful here I’m soooooo in waaaaaaay over my head & not sure what 2do next?If u happen 2 have any suggestions at all please let me know.I don’t know if I should B looking for modems, routers w/a satellite(like the Orbi WiFi system....I think 🤔)it sounded pretty good...just not sure if that would B helping with some of my problems or not??Or even of u could point me in the direct of someone that might B able 2help me out in any way(every little bit helps... believe me!!!Somethin’ would B somethin’ bc I got NOTHIN..lol?!’🤣😜And thanks for being a good sport abt all this & I’ll take any info that I can possibly get!!!Thanks so much for u’r time & I really liked/like u’r videos……so keep up the good work👍🏼 & thanks again!!;-). Tracy
I’m n the same boat. I’m now looking at Nomad for my internet. U might wanna check them out. Or look on RUclips for videos for rv WiFi systems. Best reference I’ve found so far is from a channel callled Changing Lanes.....full time rv’ers.
I found the relatively new "channel" called Megsiplex FAR better than all of them. It includes, at no charge, Live 12 News (!), MSNBC (!!), CNN and even Fox News, not to mention all my local stations, live so I don't even need an antenna, the History Channel, Amazon Prime, and LOADS more. And then I woke up....
Why would you need a DVR for streaming when the content is already available? Unless you’re talking about Live TV, and the DVR is already built in with most services through the cloud.
Isaac Ong And the average Internet speed in the US right now is just under 20 MB per second so if you're close to that or above it you should be all right now you won't be streaming in 4K which requires 25 Mb per second but really that's OK honestly HD is pretty darn good the second question you need to ask yourself is what is your budget now I am assuming like most people who cut the cord you're coming to this trying to save some money show on HBO now simply to save some money because the average cable package right now in the US is $217 a month to be fair that is for TV and Internet usually is a bundle there average Internet only package though is around 60 bucks a month say you're around the average that and still stay on her $100 a month
Ok, I will be the dummy and ask this question. 5mbps per screen? Is that 5mbps up or down? I am assuming this means down and therefore my 100mbps down and 10mbps up service is more than adequate. Please educate the old guy.
I don't cut the cord because my wifi isn't always reliable and it's nice to have other options to enjoy watching movies and tv shows and because I live on the other side of the world where Satellite TV is much cheaper
Check out antenna man for a better RUclips channel for antenna videos. BTW, there is no such thing as an antenna designed to pick up HD channels. Antennas are just pieces of metal usually designed to pick up certain frequencies. The channel decides if it broadcasts in HD or not. So, if your antenna reception is STABLE (no unwanted extra pixelation), but it looks like the content is in standard definition, buying a different antenna will NOT help.
So I have Amazon Prime but I almost NEVER use it. Everything I want to watch "even old John Wayne movies" COST EXTRA! I have yet to watch anything I didn't pay for on Amazon Prime. Not to mention they charge more for HD. If not everything is SD and that sucks.
7:51 STOP SPREADING LIES! LIVE TV IS FREE AND SHOULD ALWAYS BE FREE. people listen look up LOCAST on roku, fire, google play , web browser, literally any device, enter ur area and BOOM live over the Air tv from your area. It works without an antenna. It's a non-profit so it's free ( they work on donations) cable companies want u to pay for over the air channels DON'T DO IT. GET LOCAST, SPREAD THE WORLD PEOPLE!!!
HD antennas don't exist, same as Color TV antennas didn't exist in the 50's and 60's. That's just the advertising buzz word. Antennas are VHF, UHF, or both. Those little flat ones are only good for UHF unless you live in point-blank range of a VHF broadcaster. The FCC Repack has wiped out the upper UHF channels, giving the bandwidth to mobile operators, so many TV stations are being forced back down to VHF. If you want VHF (channels 2-13), you need a bigger antenna, that's just basic RF physics. This is especially true for VHF-Lo (channels 2-6).

If I donate money to Locast on a monthly basis, will they slow down on asking for a donation about every 3 to 4 minutes? Everytime that I have attempted to watch Locast I was bombarded with the annoying suggestions to donate money and then my tv screen is kicked back into the guide page. Any suggestions? None of the other free apps kick back into the guide page.
hello dude
Will Peacock, at any pay level, have live streaming NBC, MSNBC & CNBC?
Not as of now.
Thanks for showing this; I will subscribe. I'm tired of my satellite tv service (DTV) raping my wallet month after month!!!
Ok how how do I get internet?
@@blueroanie Thanks so much for the info!!;-)
Hello pretty
I found the relatively new "channel" called Megsiplex FAR better than all of them. It includes, at no charge, Live 12 News (!), MSNBC (!!), CNN and even Fox News, not to mention all my local stations, live so I don't even need an antenna, the History Channel, Amazon Prime, and LOADS more. And then I woke up....
the locast app on roku is free and gives all the local stations live so no antenna is needed.
How to watch live tv free on roku dowloude a app on your roku device called pluto tv trust me it works
i need a DVR for streaming
Why would you need a DVR for streaming when the content is already available? Unless you’re talking about Live TV, and the DVR is already built in with most services through the cloud.
Why am I watching this, I already cut the cord
Taylor Parker, I don’t think you meant to reply to my comment. Anyway, you did that, and I feel your comment should be a new one, not a reply.

And the average Internet speed in the US right now is just under 20 MB per second so if you're close to that or above it you should be all right now you won't be streaming in 4K which requires 25 Mb per second but really that's OK honestly HD is pretty darn good the second question you need to ask yourself is what is your budget now I am assuming like most people who cut the cord you're coming to this trying to save some money show on HBO now simply to save some money because the average cable package right now in the US is $217 a month to be fair that is for TV and Internet usually is a bundle there average Internet only package though is around 60 bucks a month say you're around the average that and still stay on her $100 a month
Ok, I will be the dummy and ask this question. 5mbps per screen? Is that 5mbps up or down? I am assuming this means down and therefore my 100mbps down and 10mbps up service is more than adequate. Please educate the old guy.
If I cut the cord is there any way I can find an app or something so I can just watch CNN and MSNBC? Thanks.
Yes, just download the CNN and MSNBC apps.
Fake news
So, now we don't pay for cable TV, now we pay for internet + streaming services.
You pay for internet anyway
I miss my ps vue
It hurts how much live TV costs especially because of sports. Without it my cord cutting budget would be amazing.
You might want to look at Philo. $20/ month and no Sports.
FYI there is an annoying ticking noise throughout your video. It sounds like a ceiling fan😀
*This is NOT cord cutting its downsizing, a long way from a droid device KODI and a good build or some excellent sites accessible by your PC.*
49$
Simple: set price you're willing to pay, cut the cable, get a Roku or Fire stick. Antenna optional.
So I have Amazon Prime but I almost NEVER use it. Everything I want to watch "even old John Wayne movies" COST EXTRA! I have yet to watch anything I didn't pay for on Amazon Prime. Not to mention they charge more for HD. If not everything is SD and that sucks.
My fiber 84 dollars
3:36 YOU ARE NOT THE FATHER
Can any of these people just get to the damn point without rambling on for almost 1:30 sec?
Gonna cut the cord, my only question, I MUST have Nascar, what should I get? thanks!
No one ever answered my question, I'm 80, and don't know who else to ask.....
You haven't cut the cord if you still use it for Internet.
Wow, am I the only one who pays $100 for their Internet?
Cox is over 100 for unlimited internet 😡😡
🌾👊👏👎👏👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👍👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎😡 you better stop
HD antennas don't exist, same as Color TV antennas didn't exist in the 50's and 60's. That's just the advertising buzz word. Antennas are VHF, UHF, or both. Those little flat ones are only good for UHF unless you live in point-blank range of a VHF broadcaster. The FCC Repack has wiped out the upper UHF channels, giving the bandwidth to mobile operators, so many TV stations are being forced back down to VHF. If you want VHF (channels 2-13), you need a bigger antenna, that's just basic RF physics. This is especially true for VHF-Lo (channels 2-6).
waste too much time repeating yourself and saying nothing of value
I am free do not pay for me because I am free
your paying for internet
CNN sucks, MSNBC sucks, now no sports.
If he finds cord cutting “intimidating” I wonder what he thinks of women who have stepped foot in a college? Jk. But seriously though, this is intimidating?
Lots and lots of talking without any meaningful information. Hmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
