The stages with two medals? It's one for single player mode and one for co-op mode. I played co-op a bit with my sister but she grew bored of the game, so that's why I only have it on some missions.
Probably for the same reasons that Goretusk boars can walk around without livers, Zhevra zebras can walk around without hooves, and a vulture can drop a battle axe that's at least twice it's size.
They're useful, if they weren't the pikmin that deal more damage than yellows and Blues then they would be useless. They do 1.5% damage, and since purples aren't in that map they may be used as just to kill enemies on land. Killing your reds before killing stronger enemies proves that you don't really know how reds work... And it's more of a challenge to keep every pikmin in your squad alive, if Nintendo got rid of reds on this stage you will have a lot of fun meeting most deaths because you don't have that damage boost to help, and that also means less pikmin to carry stuff on land. What if the yellows and blues on this stage were useless? And you never use them to carry stuff back? Your basically saying that the existence of reds on this map are legit useless, but they are not pikmin who can't carry stuff, if you have trouble keeping your pikmin alive or if you don't have enough pikmin to carry something, you'll probably regret the fact that you sacrificed your reds, be smarter about your pikmin lives, they are important than you think!
Stop Getting so hard On Marcos! You do realize the word “unnecessary” doesnt mean the same as useful. If there was fire, then yes, they would be necessary.

Get platinum in the 30 MM enemies, but kill all your reds except in both the Tropical Forests, the remix, and the tropical wilds remix.
