This is as heavy as heavy gets. Not an easy listen, but absolutely necessary. If we can't even look into the darkness, we'll never muster the courage to defeat it.

Emerging as one of the best new podcasts out there. The baddest dude ever and his more relatable sidekick Echo are a great combo. By the end of each episode, I'm ready to get my life organized and do some pushups.

People need to see and hear this Jocko. This country is in a bubble, people are clueless of what happens beyond the bubble. You and EC bring this brutality into the light and emphasize the truth about evil in the world. Thanks for this podcast and please continue your glorious mission in educating the weak.

“You can’t appreciate the light if you don’t understand the darkness” -Jocko
Thank you for sharing this. It was tough to hear, especially being a mom of a baby, remotely empathizing is just so hard. I wish for this never to happen in the world again.

I'm glad you still went forward and covered it. "The forgotten highlander" was some heavy stuff already, but this.. yeah.
Every episode has been completely worth giving you gentlemen my undivided attention for two hours or more - something that's becoming increasingly rare amidst all this media hyperstimulation. But it's completely worth it and having video of it makes it even better. Thank you for everything.

The training thru injury thing is spot on. I injured my wrist a few years ago doing a clean and press. It was a debilitating injury. I have learned that lifting weights heals. So i simply dropped back to the bar with every exercise that irritated my wrist and worked my way back up to where i had been. Took a while but i am pain free now. Wrist fully healed.

I was 15yrs old.....I remember the news clips, 2 of them. One from a distance of a woman being chased down a street and the other of the bodies coming down the river. I could not understand how the world stood idly by and let it happen.
This podcast was tough but absolutely necessary. As Jocko said, it was no monster no evil spirit.....it was us. Human beings, "good people" did this. Understand the depths to which even we can defend.....then recognise that we can take the higher path. To choose the light.
Today, right now we can be understanding and kind.

Half way through podcast... I knew about this unforgivable atrocity... But this has left a permanent mark listening to you read the accounts in Machete Season. Having listened to 100s of hours of Jordan Peterson and his insight to listen to history as if you are the perpetrator, to find the darkness inside you so that you can then truly strive to be a better person (find the light)
... I'm not sure how I'm going to recover as this is the darkest of the dark. That being said. Now it's done this podcast was a necessity. Thank you for continuing the education Jocko, so that we can better learn to fight the evil of the world.

The Southern lynchings in the late 1800s and early 1900s was a version of this. Mobs would form when it was just rumored that a black man kissed a white woman. Look up the Tulsa Riot of 1921 and the other U.S. race related riots as well. Usually they involve corrupt police, rumors and "underlining anger."

As a supplemental reading to this I recommend 'Journey into Darkness: Genocide in Rwanda' by Thomas P. Odom (Author), Dennis J. Reimer (Foreword). In July 1994, Thomas P. Odom, a US Army Military Attache was part of the U.S. Embassy team that responded to the Goma refugee crisis. Odom’s account of the events in Rwanda illustrate not only illustrate how failures in intelligence and policy happen, but also show that a human context is necessary to comprehend these political decisions. Also 'Shake Hands with the Devil: The Failure of Humanity in Rwanda' by Romeo Dallaire who was the UN Force Commander. He tried to get UN Headquarters in New York to mobilize but he was ignored.

when it boils down to it, these people did it because they were suddenly allowed to; it was deemed socially acceptable and they had a flimsy pretense
i wonder if this would have happened among people in other parts of the world

    • @rutonde
      @rutonde 4 года назад

True: Allowed to, socially acceptable, with some pretext thrown in. It was suddenly safe to rape at will, to murder, and to plunder everything. Physically safe obviously, but also legally and morally safe.
The state won’t come after them because it’s the one that told them to do it. At 9:09 the reading indicates that the directive came straight out of a Judge’s own mouth, no less. It was like a court order, a guarantee that the courts will not and cannot come after the murderers.
Nor would any of the victims come after them for anything because all the targeted people will be dead without exception. It was to be an absolutely COMPLETE genocide, and therefore a safe one.

50 mins in and there has been 4 adverts... apparently youtube feels this is appropriate material to push noise cancellation earbuds and heart burn medication.
Perhaps to help the listener to not hear the evil and to keep the acid from burning the throat as they feel sick to the stomach. Perhaps.
I remember this happening when I was a child. In the UK we had a charity event, Red Nose Day probably, maybe Children in Need. It's safe to say they omitted certain parts of the tale. It did however provide an image that haunted and haunts my mind - an image of a child, naked, alone, crying, clutching a dirty stuffed rabbit like it was the world... to us it would be trash. We have so much and appreciate so little.
