  • The GMKtec NucBox K6 mini PC features AMD's Ryzen 7840HS with Radeon 780M graphics and is the highest performing mini PC with this CPU that I've benchmarked so far. In this review we see how it manages against the competition along with some game and emulator tests... Even 4K gaming.

    LOVE that you tried botw with fps unlocked! (or with the 60fps mod). It is a really demanding game and should be used for more benchmarks!

    This seems like a neat unit at first glance, and it's great to see an SSD/RAM cooling fan that isn't blocked by a 2.5 drive holder. I'm not as sensitive to sound as Rob is, but honestly, this one was annoying, and it doesn't seem to be doing wonders for the temps either. I agree with those who feel that slightly larger fans would be worth the slight increase in size. Having said that, given how many brands are made by only a couple of companies, maybe that's more expensive than palatable. I like the darker color ('space blue'), but I think were I going to decide between this and a SER7 I'd go for the latter. I also liked the different approach to games on this review: it was interesting seeing this work at 4k.

    Hey Rob. I've just finalized on my two Mini PCs for the next three years, including extended warranties from Asurion. Yet HERE I am watching you do this stuff anyway! ;)
    I want to share a review of an item you touched upon but said wouldn't be reviewing. It's the Trigkey Ryzen 5 5560U. It's my living room TV PC and an insane clearance price of $240 US. I need it to handle all sorts of 4K 60fps without fan noise or dropped frames. It's perfect that way and very quiet almost always.
    One fun thing to know it the Amazon pic shows the word TRIGKEY big and kinda ugly on the top of the unit. The one I got gets rid of that and has this small hard to see circular emblem.. which at least... ain't ugly. When you boot the PC you still see that emblem for a moment on the screen, and it comes off as the logo of some secret Gov't 'deep state' entity, lol. But a GREEEAAAAT value and PC. Thanks for the head's up.

      TRIGKEY minis are rebranded AZW Shenzhen units, the same Beelink uses. That one is likely almost the same unit as the Beelink SER5 5560U, which has been in my top 5 for a while 😀

      Intel and Nvidia people are still in denial that AMD has the best value overall.. once AMD starts making these Mini themselves or gets ASUS to brand them and sell them as entry Level gaming PCS then its going to shake the market. Especially those Mini PCs with OCLUS port or whatever its called. Those ones where you can use a normal GPU on the side if you're powering it already with it's own Powersupply

    • @AwSomeNESSS
      @AwSomeNESSS 5 месяцев назад

      @@jordanmntungwa3311 Because, honestly, there's zero reason why Intel/Nvidia would make a stronger dGPU at prices competitive enough to rival this type of form factor. E.g., even with all the talk of Samsung 8nm being so much cheaper than comparable TSMC nodes, we're only just getting sub-$200 cards nowadays (RTX 3050 6GB). There's a hard floor on production/shipping costs that only ever rises with inflation, so the days of $50 dGPUs are long gone. I think Nvidia will do an APU style once Windows on ARM takes off, and Intel could always port their mobile chips over to the desktop, but this use case is still pretty niche.

    The case being plastic is a good thing. We've seen several models of mini pcs have unusable Wifi because their metal cases create a Faraday cage around the antennas, giving them piss-poor reception.

    These would be perfect if you wanted to open a CS-Go Café.. You can have rent a space and have maybe 30 computers, like an internet café but the place is themed. You can serve coffee and energy drinks and snacks at the snack bar. No eating at the computers. and people can have a membership, like a GYM.

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  5 месяцев назад

      I tried powering it with my eGPU and it shuts off when trying to get into Windows. Might need a dedicated USB-C power supply to work. Not sure about a power bank. That's a bit of power draw under load which could drop the voltage below acceptable levels and turn it off. I've never tried using one before so I can't advise you there.

    Im really curious how a 7840S stacks up to a 6900HX when they are both running the same memory; the Minisforum um690S has good cooling AND allows tdp increse to 65 watt as well as supporting memory speeds up to 6000MT

    • @Robtech

      @@Robtech with the same memory timings? Daniel Owens ran a test a few months ago and he had the 680m at ~20% slower than the 780m while running 4800mt mem and the 780 using 5600MT mem, this was also with only 16GB over all mem on both systems,, game dependent, of course. In some the difference was ~10%. Still a win but I am awaiting delivery of a 690S and want to understand the depth of my regret 🙃

    I just got a deal on the K6, there was an Amazon $150 coupon so it seemed like a sign. It's a very fast, fun exciting machine. It boots very fast and is fun. After 2 weeks I sent it back to Amazon, which is where you should buy these PC's because returns with GMK is flaky and outright dishonest, people are saying. I had problems with the AMD video drivers they had on their aite and while scrolling through RUclips it would get scrambles and then pop back. A new AMD driver came out but it didn't update or take it. I didn't want to get stuck with a company that had little interest in pushing updates.These companies are releasing these new 'Toys" like this every other month and I didn't trust them to keep me up with updates. From the way they are handling returns, the seem like a dishonest company who won't help me in the end. I'm glad it's gone.
