Jim Henson created The Muppets. He also performed Kermit until his death in 1990. Steve Whitmire best known as Rizzo the rat and Wembley and Sprocket from Fraggle Rock took over as Kermit's performer. He is under the chair in a tiny space. All Muppeteers work with television monitors to see what they are doing. The Muppeteer sees what the audience at home is seeing. On the monitor its a reversed image so it gets confusing. Another puppeteer is performing the arm rod behind the couch. If you have any more questions about The Muppets, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, or anything else Jim Henson just ask me.

Honestly, Steve's Kermit, particularly late Steve Kermit, has a very different feel than Henson's Kermit. His Kermit is a bit folksy-er, and has a bit more of a soft twang to him. It's not bad by any means, but it's still very different.
Whoever is controlint that kermit puppet, needs and Oscar.
Steve Whitmire has been performing Kermit since Jim Henson died in 1990. The puppeteers deserve a lot more credit.
