Zarude was supposed to be for the movie but the movie didn’t do so well so instead of explaining the lore they just handed it out…I guess? I’m glad they’re finally going back to real Mythical events again in Scarlet and Violet, especially since I’m new to the community and they’re the ones that I first started playing!
It feels like mythicals went from pokémon with some significance in the world kinda like legendaries, to just "movie pokémon". Fun fact, Zarude is referred internally in Scarlet/Violet as "m23" (movie 23) unlike any other pokémon, so even they know.
Tbh, a lot of them were already just that by gen 3. The gen 3 mythical's actual lore is non existent besides dex entries, their movies are the only thing coming close to explaining something about their existence. Gen 4 had Shaymin get some kind of lore, but Darkrai stays pretty vague. Tho funnily enough, their movies kinda don't anything for them (the Darkrai movie doesn't explain anything about Darkrai. It's more about Palkia and Dialga than Dakrai it feels like) besides being one of the very few media to actually portray it correctly (the rest was obsessed with making it evil, completely missing the point). Gen 5 started the lore dump, but the Victini event was pretty neat. Gen 7 really gave up lmao, what tf does scanning a QR code have anything to do with Magearna 😭
@@charnalk5572 Thing is we often got either lore or some event or effect in the game at large. Even when they didn't they made great plot relevance in spinoffs, like Jirachi and Darkrai. Now most of the recent ones are essentially movie advertisements and excuses to come back to the game before the gen's over.

The most it gets as centered game is Channel, and even then it was mostly as advertisement to actually buy it more than the game itself having anything to do with it (at least in Europe/Australia, the US didn't get anything for it). I think it's unfair to bring up spin offs, they don't really add or give lore to the mon (either because the games themselves are non canon, or outright poorly portray the Pokemon, like Darkrai in the explorers games. They also tend to make up their own characters, tho really surprised that Kyurem's ability to see the futur in Gates of Infinity actually was something planned in the main games from what leaks say about it). They basically serve the exact same purpose as movies, which is irrelevant to the game and only packaging the creature in to make you cash out. Sounds like your problem is not much spin offs being out more than how they handle the mythicals. They technically have spin off games, but besides basically mobil games with barely any substance (at least lore wise, even Masters Ex is expressly non canon so not much point to it. I cannot speak for the gameplay of any of them, but Café Remix doesn't interest me in the slightest even if it had all the lore in the world).
They used to have something, like "forest deity", "guardian of the sea", "wishing star", "alien", etc..., and they tried to expand them in spin-offs and movies (even if some of it wasn' t great like Darkrai = evil) But pokémon like Volcanion, Zeraora and Zarude don't really have anything, even in their movies, and don't really feel that special. Because of that it feels like it went from the movie promoting the pokémon to the inverse. And they aren't even used in spin-offs, which makes me a bit sad because I feel like Diancie, Hoopa, Magearna and Marshadow could have cool roles in them.

It even reinforce it, we have to look at anything but the source material (the games) to get anything substantial about the creature which is the core issue here. Even Pecharunt still suffers from this, what did we even learn from its event? Nothing, its whole backstory was revealed in a short animation with little context or care for what the games where actually setting up (even contradicting information given prior, as the retainers apparently always looked like the way they did despite prior information stating otherwise). Bringing up spin offs isn't a fault of "modern Mythical", it's just the way things are. If Super Mystery Dungeon came out after Volcanion was made official, it certainly would appear there, or even just if TPC/SpikeChunsoft cared to make another game (which SpikeChunsoft shows no interest in, especially after the disappointing sales of DX). If Mythical's value is really just having a title (that's not even relevant to the mainline games, if ever brought up in official media relating to them), and maybe some focus in a spin off then honestly we're better off doing away with the Mythical trope (they're really just the relics of an outdated practice that was never really worth it to begin with. All of this because they desperately try to recreate Mew's lighting in a bottle effect, but keep straying further and further away from what actually made that happen).
Volcanion actually *does* get something in ORAS: if you take it to TV Mauville, a man there will let you listen to short documentaries that involve Brandon from Pokémon Emerald leading expeditions that sighted it in different regions.
Zarude? Oh yeah Mythical Monkey Shiftry with a healing move. Also Volcanion had an ORAS event in TV Mauville with a show about an explorer finding it in multiple regions that might have been Brandon iirc.
Probably a joke, but Volcanion's lore is that it flattened the Kalos region at some point. Its worshipped in the South for it, but the Kalos region used to be a moutain range before Volcanion just blasted it ig.

I was one of those MANY people who never got an email for the Zarude and Shiny Celebi events at the time despite having my account on the Pokemon website for years. It was NOT fun seeing a bunch of people talk about how they got these rare and hard to obtain Pokemon while I was sitting in the dark. I managed to get a Shiny Celebi on December 1st of this month after 23 days of soft resetting for it in Crystal, so while that blow is softened, I still haven't watched the Zarude movie to this day because I can't think of the one I was robbed of and not feel bitter.
I get that they want to promote the movies. That’s cool, but when you had past Mythicals going on massive adventures to catch them, getting handed them is a massive downgrade. So glad Pecharunt changed that and let us go through a whole epilogue just to get him. Hope Gen X and beyond follow this example.

Let's not ignore that these lore dumps for Hoopa were revealed he completely destabilized a criminal organization before abandoning them in a desert if I remember correctly.

In order to stop this, the organization hauled all their things into their building and stayed inside. This seemingly worked until they tried to leave the building, where they found that the entire building had been transported to desert. Terrified by this, the organization disbanded.

Its sad how Zaruda is the only mystical in Galar and in fact, the only non-DLC non-story extra legendary you can get in galar. Sad when Second place is gen 1 with mew but atleast that game also has Mewtwo.

I wish they’d do a cool Dark/Grass mythical Pokémon, there’s a lot of potential for that. Shiftry and Brute Bonnet are cool, so whatever they come up with for a Grass/Dark in the future will be good.

I got every email from the pokemon company up until the zarude distribution and haven't received one since. Had to trade with someone to be able to put my GO Zarude in Shield just so I could get the Ash hat

After some research the most interesting thing i learned about Zarude is that there is a movie and apparently a separate form named "Dada Zarude" who adopted an abandoned child for some Tarzan shenanigans. And i swear it took me like 20 min to realize its name "Dada" is literally just from dad, as in daddy Zarude, Father Zarude, because he adopted a child. IM DENSE
The worst thing about zarude is that if you havent gotten it from the event, you cant transfer it into your game. Mine from Go is stuck in bank for the forseeable future.
Reminder that Zarude's movie apparently did so badly, that we have literally never gotten another Pokemon movie since for gen 8 or 9 (so far). The monke literally killed the entire pokemovie universe because it did that badly.
I am STILL mad that Zarude was only and I mean ONLY distributed by being signed up to receive the newsletter through your email, and for some reason that’s the ONLY newsletter I never got. Zeraora for me is the perfect reminder that design is (almost) everything, a character can be as nothing as it possibly can, if it looks cool enough people will remember it and talk about how "cool" it is independent of what it actully does or represent in it's original history's world
Im hoping we can learn some more about zeraora because we really only see it very little in usum, swsh atleast made it shiny, it exists in unite, and pokemon snap atleast gives something but thats about it.
6th gen gave us 3 mythical Pokemon but no legendary trio (Like Kanto Birds and the Regis, I know Xerneas, Yvetal and Zygarde were a thing though). And yes, they were locked in events. You can't even use them on battle facilities. Pretty lackluster.

ORAS Volcanion event is actually on the TV Mauville, it even has a cameo namedrop for a Frontier Brain (Brandon)

Zarude is literally the first Pokemon I ever didn't care about having
Zero aura had the chance to be my favorite but I wasn't up to date with the anime so it literally came and went randomly
I found out what zarude was like a month ago

After some research the most interesting thing i learned about Zarude is that there is a movie and apparently a separate form named "Dada Zarude" who adopted an abandoned child for some Tarzan shenanigans.
And i swear it took me like 20 min to realize its name "Dada" is literally just from dad, as in daddy Zarude, Father Zarude, because he adopted a child.

The worst thing about zarude is that if you havent gotten it from the event, you cant transfer it into your game. Mine from Go is stuck in bank for the forseeable future.
Reminder that Zarude's movie apparently did so badly, that we have literally never gotten another Pokemon movie since for gen 8 or 9 (so far). The monke literally killed the entire pokemovie universe because it did that badly.
i love Volcanion, the movie was good and its a cool pokemon fire/water is such a unique typing

At least Volcanion had the better movie between the 3 Kalos Myths, and it included Magearna
I am STILL mad that Zarude was only and I mean ONLY distributed by being signed up to receive the newsletter through your email, and for some reason that’s the ONLY newsletter I never got. Got every single one before and after but never the one that was the only chance to get a mythical pokemon on it’s only release
Teasing zarude but for real I swear zeraora just spawned and was just accepted as existing and has like 0 lore
Zeraora for me is the perfect reminder that design is (almost) everything, a character can be as nothing as it possibly can, if it looks cool enough people will remember it and talk about how "cool" it is independent of what it actully does or represent in it's original history's world
AND I STILL NEED ONLY ZARUDE FOR THE HOME NAT DEX!!! AAAAAAAA

Just made the Pokémon catchable in the game like normal legendaries
Im hoping we can learn some more about zeraora because we really only see it very little in usum, swsh atleast made it shiny, it exists in unite, and pokemon snap atleast gives something but thats about it.
Getting a haircut in x/y also gives you some Diancie facts if you got a one in your game
Too bad there wasn't an event that gave Zarude the move Sandstorm.
Let's hope no one maims me for this one.

6th gen gave us 3 mythical Pokemon but no legendary trio (Like Kanto Birds and the Regis, I know Xerneas, Yvetal and Zygarde were a thing though). And yes, they were locked in events. You can't even use them on battle facilities. Pretty lackluster.
I hope we get a Seel event in Future Pokemon games
Can they bring Volcanion and Hoopa back as side quests in ZA or as distributions and also a Zeraora distribution would be nice. @pokemon
