🇲🇽 TORREÓN, COAHUILA | Mexico's Most INCREDIBLE CITY! | Museo del FERROCARRIL | MEXICO TRAVEL 2022

  • 🇲🇽 TORREÓN, MEXICO - Welcome back to Torreón, Coahuila, one of my favourite cities in Mexico! This is Part 24 of my 2022 Mexico Travel series! I’ve spent a considerable amount of time in Northern Mexico, previously filming 2 videos in Torreón in 2021, in addition to Durango, Nombre de Dios, Puente de Ojuela, Matamoros, Gómez Palacio and Lerdo. An INCREDIBLE area of Mexico!
Torreón can often be seen as just another regular, industrial city without the history of central and southern Mexico. Yes, it’s a younger city, but that doesn't mean it doesn’t have interesting history or decent food. In fact, the comida Mexicana (Mexican food) I’ve had here is the BEST I’ve had in Mexico (I’m not even joking!).
We visit Bosque Venustiano Carranza, Casa Ricardo Montalbán, Casa del Cerro, Museo del Ferrocarril (insane), and old classics Mercado Alianza, Paseo de Morelos, the Teleferico and Cristo de la Noas! Dios Mío! As you can see, there are so many things to do in Torreón!
You’re treated like a local in Torreón; there are very few tourists so you’re treated like a local… trust me - Something you cannot experience in a tourist area. People from Torreón are, as I say, ICONIC!
If you’re thinking of becoming expats in Mexico or moving to Mexico, you don’t have to move to San Miguel de Allende or Guanajuato. Somewhere like Torreón may not be traditionally ‘pretty’, but it still has a tremendous amount to offer!
Is this the most incredible city in Mexico?

It's been good to be back! The next one is very different in that it's over the east side near airport but it's to show the industrial side and really that every city has an industrial side, it's just Torreon just seems to be associated with it more so people think it's 'ugly'!

I think the reason that you are treated like a local is because you actually take the time to show that you care about the place. I'm considering moving to Paris, and it's amazing how many English-speaking "expats" there are who know nothing about French culture, politics, history, sports, etc. Now, I'm not saying that someone needs to know all of that, but it does show that you have interest in the place besides just "living a better lifestyle". I think you have taken the time to actually understand Mexico, and I think that's what people respect.

    • @davidostrowski679

Great insight Mr! I know what you mean, I feel like that about moving to Poland, honestly at the present moment in time I'm not well-equipped in terms of Polish history and language, but assuming I move there, learning more is top of my agenda. It makes such a difference. Astronomical. For the life of me I cannot understand why someone would move somewhere simply to benefit in some way without making an effort to integrate!

Thanks Amigo David for showing our city, you are now one of us, I like your videos because you like the city not for turístic sites here, but because you like the people , the essence and for me is brilliantl. A lot of people don't like cities like Torreón but they don't know who we are, what we do. I really appreciate you, thanks for coming again. Gracias Alberto! I think if I'd come here 6 years ago I would be more focused on tourist sites but as I said in this video that's just not what I want anymore (it ties in with me moving back to Europe and not travelling anymore). I think the magic of Torreón and the fact it's not seen as a 'tourist city' is that you can come here for a normal life, but also discover the tourist aspect at the same time, unlike Guanajuato for example where I feel even if I lived there, there would still be this tourist aspect, especially as a foreigner. I feel like Torreón gives you the opportunity to be a local. I'm really going to miss it when I leave!

We went to Mazatlán in June when we knew that there would be no snow birds in town and that most of the tourists would be Mexican nationals. One happy consequence was that we met several very friendly nationals - including a very nice young couple from Torreon who, like us, were celebrating their anniversary. (Their English was much better than our Spanish - she had lived in the USA at one point and he worked for a USA call centre). I might have mentioned this before - but when I told them that I knew about Torreon because of your videos last year - they said that they had seen them. So congrats on your celeb status - you deserve it for all the images and information you have shared about areas of Mexico that do not attract influencer attention. I am waiting for you to be adopted as a local, throw out your EU passport and move in with a nice abuela, a mexidog and two cats.

Did you know that the drug chain company is owned by Booths (UK)? They are all over Mexico, specially the North since their base is in Monterrey

Amazing how much Torreon has changed and what you have learned along the way. In general the people of Mexico are very friendly people and in some cases, once they see you and get to know you, treat you like one of them...Sorry that they don't treat you kindly in Hotel Rio Nazas...lol. Looking forward to seeing more of Torreon and more videos in the surrounding areas David. Stay safe.

10/10 Moved to Torreon about 7 years ago. Definitely fun to go around. Also, I don't remember which days exactly but there are some times where El Bosque turns into this mini fair. There's a lot of food stands, ferris rides, etc.
And def recommend going to the Alameda at night, that's when it comes to life.

    • @davidostrowski679

I escaped from my city almost 10 years ago because of economic reasons.
Back to the 2000's I used to enjoy the the food and play free with the other children. I was happy and i didn't know it. The time runs fast...
I Miss my city, but now living in Monterrey and having a better life style, I think that maybe when I get older I can go back and die where I born.

  •  2 года назад +4

David, Torreon's history is very interesting, as I'm pretty sure you already know. From its beggining, the city was populated by people from all around the world, mexican from north and south, libanese, chinese, european, americans. Also, its common to have people from other places here, like indsutry managers or football players, or inmigrants, so we are very acostumed to people from all around, and as you tell, there aren't too much turists over here, so, all are very well received. Welcome, and I hope you are doing well in this year heat wave.

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679  2 года назад +2

Thanks Victor! Yes I love the multicultural history! In one of the videos from last year there's a bit at the Teatro Isauro Martinez where the guide tells me about some of that history and after that I went to the mosque. Also the whole think about Chinese and the Canal. Re heat I am very much accustomed to it now especially after 6 weeks in Sonora too jaja infierno

I agree 100% with your comment about touristy areas and scams. I think two things happen - first, people just see you as chump to extract money from (whether through time shares, tequila tastings, illegal drugs, etc). Second, the tourists are so rude and obnoxious that the locals treat extranjeros with contempt or at least keep them at arms length. Anyway - Torreon looks great. Thank you for this1

    • @davidostrowski679

Funny that I just traveled on a train with a steam locomotive last month. in Palestine, Texas. And today, I just walked up Calle Rio Nazas in Cuernavaca to pick up residency card. Got to feed some angels today, also. FYI- In Texas, the name for little dust tornados is dust devils. It is amazing how kind everyone is, even if they enjoy gently poking fun at me. The use of the double entendre is alive and well in Mexico. While getting my residency card, the officer addressed me as caballero rather than senor, because of my attire. que pedo

Lol that was me! Yeah, I agree with you, colourful signs are prettier.
I'm glad that you are enjoying your stay, I've heard a lot of ppl saying what you just said, Torreón has something that makes you want to stay. Not only foreigners, but also Mexicans from other cities, and states. My wife had the exact same reaction the first time they came.
At the beginning, I was so concerned that it would end up being boring for them... now we are working our asses off to be able to bring them here permanently next year. LOL :)
If dinosaurs are of your interest, there is a hidden jewel in downtown, a small but interesting paleontology museum, right in front of Mercado Juárez on Juárez street. Something's telling me that you already went there, but I still wanted to bring that up. Also there is a rooftop area in museo arocena, I am not sure it is free of charge tho.
Did you said dunes? If you did, just a few recommendations, bring enough water with you, last time I went there was no stores no Oxxo or anything were you can get drinks, if you can get lucozade or some beverage of that kind, even better, lol also make sure to wear sunscreen!

DINOSAURS! I'm the biggest dinosaur geek ever, I'm literally watching JW Dominion right now for the 3rd time! I'm always near Juarez so I'll see if I have time! Thanks man!
The next one will actually be from Parras because of unworkable bus timetables on certain days (classic Normex!) although I'm hoping to get to the dunes before I leave. Oh and I'll definitely be stocking up on Electrolitos!
