Nice LOtR entry at 17:56. Sometimes the simplicity of a game, is the brilliance of a game. Love Acquire, but still going to grab a copy of Ulos. I am a gamer after all.
Thank you! I think it's one part of the game that doesn't get talked about enough. When you're playing a game with a shared board, that small board with no way to lock in components can be a pain.
Haven't played acquire so I can enjoy playing Big Boss. Never played a single friendly game though. Always taking only those actions that benefit me the most.
Both great games. I would obviously recommend Acquire first and if your group likes that one, then deff take a shot at Dawn of Ulos, just know it takes some different strategy.
You’re right, games like these are prime for socialization around the table. I’ve never played any of these and think I am leaning more towards Acquire, but the others look good too!
I've been interested in Dawn of Ulos mainly because the art caught my eye. Had no idea it was comparable to Acquire. Acquire has been on my wishlist for a few months now. Going to have check it out soon. What got me interested in Acquire was that I heard its a much better replacement for monopoly.
Awesome video. I hadnt heard of the channel until now - someone mentiomed it in the Reiner Knizia discord. Great to see you have several of his games in your background shelves, as well as other top games. Pleased I have Shark I've subscribed to see your additiomal content
@@CardboardHunter We typically meet every other week at least to play. I am going to suggest Acquire at the next get together. He has the older version but i like the look of your copy and the newest one.
Yea I recommend Acquire first and maybe try to play Big Boss first because it's not that Big Boss isn't a good game, it just leans a bit more towards puzzle than game imo. Which puzzles are great, but I just recommend going in knowing that's what it is.
Thank you so much! I’m pretty excited about the next video, which is going to be a review of a really exciting game called Comic Hunters and I’ve even got an interview from the designer who explains how he’s trying to get it published in the U.S. It was a super rare Brazil only single year print run and the game made a lot of waves in the industry as all of the cards are unique classic marvel comic covers. Such a beautiful game
@@CardboardHunteroh dang. That sounds fun. I’m always interested in designer diaries/interviews. Unlike some art forms, getting to know creators of boardgames offer the user the chance get more out of the experience.
I've been tempted to get that copy just so it would properly fit into my kallax easier lol but man I wish they would have upgraded the components when they made that version
Thank you! I knew this video wouldn't "go viral" because I picked a bunch of games modern gamers don't know, but hey, I had a lot of fun comparing these great games together
Cannot recommend it enough. I was actually just talking with someone in our discord about Shark today and I think it's probably in my top 10 games of all time. Deff not right for everyone but if it is right for you and your group, it's golden!
Solid video, nice job Sterling. You ever play Tesla v Edison, especially with the expansion? Not quite as cutthroat as Shark but I like the mechanics and the stock market manipulation
Well said sir, some great honest insights into some top notch games! I pretty much have a similar debate in my head most weeks looking at shark and acquire on the shelf, both superb. Big Boss went in the end, great game but got a bit rinse and repeat near the end with more money made levelling up a 50 value company, than investing in stock. Thanks for the video, very entertaining.
@@CardboardHunter no way, that's crazy! thank you I appreciate that. Keep up the good work my friend. I'm across the pond but hopefully bump into you one day, break the ice with a nice 'friendly' game of Shark 😉
@@economicboardgames Maybe we'll run into each other at a convention over there sometime and I'll make sure to say hello so I can test our new friendship by demolishing you in a game of Shark XD
I love Acquire, but man was that 2016 AH printing horrendously hard to parse. I've sold that one off, but I don't have a lingering desire to get it anymore since most of the people in my playgroup have a copy of it anyway. If ever Shark gets a newer printing, I'll be sinking my teeth into it.
Technically the Korea Board Game Co reprint was within the last year but it’s so pricey to have it imported to the U.S. usually $100+ and I feel that’s just a bit too high considering there’s no component upgrades. I oddly liked the 2015 version of Acquire 😅 I felt that smaller board made the game play a bit faster and made it more of a filler game and I did get a good bit of mileage out of that copy before I finally gifted it to a friend. But I do get what you mean, certainly not my preferred version
I've had it for a few months but sadly haven't been able to talk anyone into playing it with me yet. It actually looks very simple and looks like such a clean and streamlined deckbuilding / area control system. I'm sure I'm going to love it when I do finally table it
Rheinländer by Reiner Knizia is another possible challenger! I like Acquire better but it is similar and very good. It's one I'd love to see a reprint of. Looking at you @bitewingGames
@@CardboardHunter I have an copy collecting dust. It's the 1999 Hasbro version, I scored myself a copy of the 2005 reprint. It is definitely an 'inspired by Acquire' Game, a solid golden age Knizia I would send this to you if you'd like to check it out for the channel! (No obligation to review it or anything)
I’m tempted to house rule it a bit to make it a bit more like Acquire to make the power gaps in factions feel more important. If I do and figure it out I’ll make a video about my house rules and how I think it impacts the game. I still love Dawn of Ulos, it’s just Acquire is a juggernaut classic to go head to head with
Yea I agree. Capstone has even been teasing the idea on their Twitter earlier this year. I expect a limited reprint of their retail version but I highly doubt we'll see another deluxe copy reprint like the one I'm giving away.
@@CardboardHunter The Estates is not for the faint of heart, so it fits in well with this series. While it is on the shorter side (45-60min), it's incredibly intense as players compete to buy cubes during the auctions, place them in the three limited rows, cap buildings to secure ownership and complete rows to control endgame scoring. Unfortunately, Capstone does not appear to have plans to reprint this in the near future.

always glad to see people including table space / board usability in their commentary

To see fantasy theme on top of the standard stock trading is really cool.
Dawn of Ulos looks like fun!
Well man definitely glad you told me you have a channel now, looks way better than whatnot and all the cards.
I may live in under a rock, but i dont know much about Bus...but now i really want it.
Never looked into these other options other than Acquire. Interesting video!
Had never heard of Shark, but really appreciate the time put into comparing all four games.
Had my eye on acquire and ulos, never thought to compare them like this.
Both really great games, highly recommend!
nice comparison. I haven't played any (yet) but have been eying Acquire as I keep hearing its a blast.
Thanks so much for this giveaway. I love Acquire and Big Boss. Haven’t played the other ones, but I’d definitely like to.
Oh, I have an older copy of Acquire - great game!
Thanks for the rundown! Dawn of Ulos looks great, but a bit daunting to me, will have to check it out.
Yea even though it didn't out do Acquire it still is a really great game and much easier to learn than it looks!
I keep learning about “new” (to me) games from watching your videos. Acquire (like Bus) is another game I’m not familiar.
Never heard of Shark before... will have to check it out!
We picked up the new Acquire. It is really fun. I've never played Big Boss.
Hmmm… I’ve never heard of Big Boss! I’m going to have to look more into that one!
Acquire is such a fun game! And would love to try Bus, looks like an interesting game!
Acquire was the game that introduced me to board gaming.
Great review comparing these stock focused games. I was surprised by the ultimate winner.
The winner surprised me too tbh lol. It was really hard to make that call. Thanks for the kind words!
I have a copy of acquire from the early 80's. I used to love playing that game. I may have to try the new version.
Very minimum changes since the original version, but maybe give Shark a shot!
Haven't played acquire so I can enjoy playing Big Boss. Never played a single friendly game though. Always taking only those actions that benefit me the most.
If you’re playing Big Boss more in that aggressive style already then you will for sure appreciate Acquire and Shark!
Cool concept for a video. I had not heard of Shark and this is a category I need to fill in my collection so I may check it out. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Looks like a cool game! I hadn’t even heard of it!
Man acquire is an old person feeling game..but i mean that in a great way. Its one ive vagualy wanted over the years

Going to keep a eye for shark. Interesting start for your channel learn a lot.

Acquire is so good. It really should have been the game that got famous over Acquire. I also think Lord of Vegas is a killer alternative to Monopoly
For Shark, I like the box art on the Ravensburger more.
I had never even heard of the game Shark. Thanks for the info, and I will have to check it out as an alternative to getting Acquire.
Shark is a lovely game. If you like any of the more head to head Reiner Knizia stuff, I think Shark will really fit in well
great, now I need a copy of Acquire to try it for myself
It’s sooooo good. The new edition is solid and you can find it on Amazon or at Barnes and Noble
I recently picked up Renegade’s new edition of Acquire. It’s a fantastic classic game.
Yea I love their remake and how it lets you play the two different game modes
