Really happy to see the extra traffic to this video with the English release finally happening! Please note that this video was made at a time when we did not know for certain that we'd get an English printing of the game, and this whole review was thru the lens of it's then very high 2nd hand market pricing. I literally cannot recommend this game enough at it's current MSRP! If you have an opportunity to buy Comic Hunters at the English print run MSRP, I give a 100% stamp of approval!
Thank means so much! Thank you! I’ve never done any video editing before this channel so it’s been a crazy learning curve but I’ve been having a lot of fun the whole time!
I never realized that Comic Hunters is a Brazil exclusive. I remember seeing this on BGG and I was quite flabbergasted that it's not getting a lot of attention despite being a game about collecting Marvel comics. I initially thought it was a game that had a very limited print run, like a game that was only available on certain stores or conventions. Great interview, by the way. It's almost always a great time listening to designers talk.
Thank you! Yea I remember when I first saw Mike DiLisio of Dice Tower cover this game I was like “wow this is going to be big” then crickets. But maybe that big impact is still coming, I certainly hope so
Interesting grail, I've never seen this unboxed or setup before, but I was instantly reminded of Eric Alvarado's 2019 "Vinyl". I also like the fact that Robert was able to use real comic book covers (Vinyl couldn't secure the rights to any real album covers). You did fantastic Sterling, it's the most objective way to discuss a game: "what I liked", "what I didn't like", "who I think this is for". The anecdotal discussion with Robert was also very entertaining.
Thank you for the kind words and feedback! I was also floored when I first saw Mike DiLisio showing this one off on The Dice Tower. Blows my mind they actually secured that first license and I’m hoping they can pull it off again with the international license
Happy Holidays@@CardboardHunter! I just watched the Mike DiLisio review from a year ago and fell in love with the components, so thematic with sleeved cards that feel like miniature comics, bagged and boarded. I thought Disney would have been much, much more protective of this IP back in 2020...
I love the breadth of your video here. It's great to have high quality overview footage of the components alongside honest reviews alongside designer interview and all in under 30 minutes! Well done, good sir.
The minute I saw this game in the background of your previous videos and knowing the type of content you've been putting out... I KNEW this video was coming! Glad this game is getting showcased and thank you for bringing in the designer for a Q&A. Really enjoyed hearing his thoughts and design process. Can't wait to get my hands on this game when it comes to the US. 🙌
Thank you for the kind words! When I first reached out to Robert about coming onto this video I didn’t think he would respond at all with me being such a small and new channel but I’m so glad he did, it was so much fun and it answered so many questions I had about the game and future potential of seeing it show up in the US!
Yea as a grail collector myself and spending as much on this as almost any other grail, I had to take that into account. I think my review would have been soooo different if this was available at a local game shop for like $50-$60
I enjoy the quality of your content. I think you were fair when assessing this game, and I really enjoyed that you brought the creator on for an interview. Would love to see more videos like these and with interviews.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m really so grateful the designer was willing to come on and give his insight. I feel like I learned so much about the game myself thru the process
I haven’t really gotten into the world of comics, but this looks really good! Weird that I haven’t heard of it because I spend 99% of my time researching board games… thanks for introducing it to me!
Been watching your vids for a bit now, and just found the giveaway details, haha. I love the vibes you have. Great clarity, great aesthetics, and easy to understand. Here's another entry for the Bus 20th anni!
Wow, you have some real board game gems in your collection! I heard the rumor from Dice Tower that there is a chance of a second printing upcoming….would be so pumped to get this
I've had this on my list to play for a year before finding out how difficult it is to get a copy, Brazil's one year contract, and no longer printing. I hope they get this game to the USA someday!
Great review format even if it brings up some issues of bias (which are always present but usually more sidelined), as a production designer and hobbiest game designer, I just love hearing directly from people who are thinking about games from a similar perspective.
Yea I agree completely. There’s no way to keep all bias out, and people should always be aware of that, and I thought Robert’s insight would outweigh any potential bias it may give me to have him on
A friend of mine has a collection of over 2000 titles and considers this one a grail game. I’m sure he’d prefer a first run rather than a reprint, but just to play it would surely bring him some closure!
They have finally confirmed that Awakened Realms has secured the license to print the game in English. What I’m hearing is the first English print run will happen before the end of the year with the same artwork. Looks like they actually pulled it off!
🚌 I’m a legit comic collector and know most of those covers, so I am excited to see more about this. The theme to mechanic aspect will be huge if the sets and combos are picked with real fans and keys in mind. Having team ups be wildcard for sets is cool, and I see icons for first appearances and …eyeballs? Since you asked, Thoughts on your review? I’d have put more info on mechanics and game loop, and I’d have done that before talking components. And expecting acrylic tokens in a mass market game is weird imho, I’d think that’s be a KS upgrade or deluxe here too. Talking about accessibility and value is one thing, but the talk of paying ALOT for it and value aspect of it as an expensive object is so not interesting and a turn off to me, aside from a footnote advising on value for now, which you did and was enough. More about the game, and some more fanboy comic nerd bits. Like…game loop overview even if not a teach would help a lot for a game with little coverage and give context to rest, esp the complaints. I’d like to see a set of first appearances and more fan service given that was the focus of controversy. The negativity on game in a re it’s is fine, but your complaints seemed just like odd personal expectations than the game but dominated review. Is it an awesome fun game at right price? Were there negatives on gameplay for its audience? That’s what I want to hear myself, just tell us it’s a family game and not some heavy amazing innovation. I mean, I already exoected as much myself and want to build hype for rerelease. The facts from developer on that? Gold. For the reprint, I hope they redo the player board somehow, I think it’s weak and not resonating with collecting. We aren’t Stan Lee, we have longboxes and overstrest guides and some in CGC slabs (which should be a module lol). I like the cards being mostly covers that look like 90s trading cards, that’s a part of the appeal! In fact, being able to ape some of those frame treatments a tad would be amazing. I think the character icons look great and representative though
Also it’s clear xmen are being saved for an expansion from icons and covers but that’s what I really would want most as that’s MY depth in my actual collection 🤓
Thanks for the feedback! That was super insightful and I actually agree with a lot of that. I think if I had to do it all over I would have gotten more detailed on explaining some game play and showing off a few cards and talking about them. And yea, it’s always weird talking about a really expensive game. I guess I was just really worried to be over the top and hype people up considering the current second hand price, but at the same time you’re probably right, I could have done it in less words. As far as X-Men, this was before Disney had them as part of their catalog so they were specifically excluded from the original license agreement. I think now that Disney does hold the X-Men rights, if this game got relicense then X-Men likely would be introduced as an expansion.
It’s good to caution viewers on hype and value and you have a grail hunter MO. I think advising it’s only worth the grail price to serious comic collectors that know the covers by heart, otherwise wait for a rerelease, as it seems the publisher seems optimistic we’ll see it in the US with license and covers intact (according to interview it seemed). All that is cool and is very good info for this topic. I still barely get the play loop, and excited to see the synergy in icon categories and the comics themselves. Looking forward to more info.
Yea luckily someone was super quick to do an English translation and post it on BGG, apparently even faster than the publisher finished their own translated version and that really caught them off guard lol
Well, I just bought it for $28. Can't be too disappointed if it falls flat. But my hope is for a quick playing, 45 minute game with lots of light decision points in it.
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed at all! For the current English MSRP price point I’d recommend this one any day. I was a bit disappointed to see that the production value was actually stepped down a bit since the Brazilian print run, but still for the current MSRP you really can’t complain at all.
Pretty, but seems unlikely to afford the license in the USA. I guess I'll be pleasantly surprised. If you had the resolution for it, might have been nice to go split screen instead of inset for the interview. But otherwise I liked the +'s and -'s.
Thank you and it was the resolution that was the issue. I tried getting his video bigger and it really didn’t look great. It was a good learning experience though, I think I know how to improve that next time. And yea, it’s hard to actually imagine it finally making it to the US but I hope Robert does pull it off!
I may have someone pick up a copy of this when they go to Brazil. I have a surprising # of people I know who live in or travel to Brazil. They may be able to find a used copy.
My understanding is you can only get it second hand there as well and it’s going to be above MSRP but still probably much cheaper than it would cost to find it in the states
Got a copy from Barnes & Noble myself today and was excited to compare the two and I was a bit disappointed to see the production value has dropped a bit but still 100% worth it at $25

Hey, Sterling -- thanks for the highlight of a game I would have otherwise missed.
