And also recommend the correct cabling and reasonably priced amp. When I say reasonably, I mean under £200-600 (if possible). Not Streaky Mastering/Balmain/LV/Gucci/Lobster Pasta reasonably haha

why do people like ns-10s so much they sound pretty horrible. i know people say if you can get a mix sounding good on them it will sound good on anything but wouldn't it just be easy to get a flat pair of speakers tuned to the room.
@@richieroar84 Hey Richie! If it helps - Avantone also make a 'CLA200' power amp designed specifically for use with the CLA10 and similarly spec'd passive monitors :)
The logo is almost as huge as CLAs' ego ;D

I’ve ALWAYS ALWAYS wanted a pair of ns10’s but have never been able to get ahold of any. I'm a newsletter reader. Love your content. When there is so much crap out there, It's great to see you making these honest reviews.
All speakers play more bass when near a desk (or standing on a floor). Same is true if they're in a corner. So the extra bass will be true for the NS10s as well as any other speaker or sound source. It compromises clarity and imaging though.
My iLoud monitors sound so much better on stands than on the desk, for the same reason. They have EQ switches that compensate for the extra bass when placed on ones desk. But regardless of that, there's a huge difference, clarity-wise.
Horn speakers (like f.e. the PA speakers Funktion One) rely on this, to some extent. Taking the floor into account is part of designing a horn speakers low frequency limit.
... Now, as to that giant logo: indeed too big. And I'm sure Chris was the one who wanted it bigger 😂

Sonically - Is there a difference from the book NS 10s and the studio version? And if one had the opportunity to get the NS 10 over the CLA 10 which one would you recommend?

Thank you for reviewing these... can't wait for part2. OK! Like you, I hate the huge tacky CLA label and signature. Im hoping for a small, (could be metal) classy emblem like what's on the ATC SCM12 Pro 6, Focal Solo6 BeFocal Solo6 Be or the Focal Shape 50. Any ways I will pull the trigger on these if I can remove the ugly sticker. Streaky do you think there's an easy way to remove the loud sticker?

Sound On Sound just did an extensive review of these including measurements, comparing to two pairs of originals. They reckoned the CLA’s were pretty much exact copies of the bass/mid but much too bright. I wouldn’t say my NS10s are overly bright (I’ve got the studio pair). Are your old pairs as bright as the CLA’s? p.s. totally agree about that awful massive centred logo!! :(
That may be because the NS10's have been discontinued long enough that they're starting to deteriorate. But I don't know since that article is paywalled

If sound on sound is saying they’re exact copy it’s time to stop reading their opinions on anything. They sound very where it matters
@@natewilliams2426 If you read the Sound on Sound article in its entirety Hugh DIDNT say they were an exact copy anywhere in his review. They are close, but so are AR18s and many other "closed box" speakers. The CLAs use many mass production approaches to cut costs (the woofer is pressed rather than folded as the NS10's woofer is) but still manage to cost more than a decent pair of used NS10s!

CorsairRecords Good point! NS-10s became an ornament on studio desks, even if today they're rarely alone. There's almost always a pair of recent and decent active monitors right next to the old Yamaha's. It was easier to understand that an older mixing engineer (and in the old days) would use the NS-10s as a known reference, specially when traveling between different studios. It's stranger that young engineers still look at it as a "must-have", when there are so many better monitors for the same (or less) money, including from Yamaha itself.
But I understand why Auratone did it. If people were paying that kind of money for old and beaten NS-10...

YES!!! FINALLY THANK YOU!! 😊 i have been hoping (and asking like a million times) that you would do a review of those 👌👌 looking forward to pt 2! Not sure, but..werent there this bass trick when using ns10 as well? Something like if you drove them to start distorting and pull it back down just a bit you would have a solid sounding bass? If the "bass" on the cla isnt the same i guess i'll be missing out on that "feature".. I am however really intrigued by your praise on the mids on them tho..i guess that has allways been the mainpoint of the ns10s. Again..thank you! The only proper review of them out there 👏👏

I'm not trying to be picky on you, but wouldn't you fill your whole studio with gear and monitors if you would follow that same principle?
Isn't there a lot of nostalgia involved, because you used it "back in the day"?
Within that price range (let's keep in mind the additional cost of a amp to drive them), would it be your first choice today if you didn't have those mains?
All these decades after the originals were launched, isn't there newer monitors that give the same (or better) insight over that midrange?
Maybe you can please address some of these questions on part 2?
I hope I didn't sound rude (I actually subscribed to your channel now), but I'm thinking about the average home studio owner that might be considering investing in a pair of these.

Did you ever test out gulfoss?? I assume you don't like it but I personally use it for all my masters as a stereo spreader. I'm completely in the box tho
