I hv observed thru my AG that she digs when on my bed and is territorial to anyone but mr. While doing this i observed it is a nesting ritual. Only mates and young are allowed in their nests in the wild. She only did this scratching and became territorial when she was in season for mating. The rest of the year, she did not exhibit these traits.
African Grey’s are tropical birds. Not really suited to cold outdoor temps. Southern California stays relatively warm throughout the year I’m assuming. For the health of your feathered friend it might be wise to aid on the side of caution and bring your parrot indoors as seasonal temperatures begin to fall. Love your videos. You are doing a great service in educating people about companion Parrots kept in captivity with humans. Keep on spreading the word in enlightening folks who otherwise are ignorant about these birds.
We're going to buy an African gray, but even though our balcony is HUGE, it's against the rules to build an aviary. Is is ok if I keep him in a cage for the night and let him out when we are there?

I guess the word that he was looking for and should've used here was "acclimatization". Like adaptation or the process of becoming accustomed to a newer climate, or weather conditions, altitude etc. Other words.. conditioning, habituation etc.

I feel like we are trying too hard to give him attention and it’s overwhelming him but not sure if that’s a thing. How much “alone” time do they need? My grey digs in her cage, but very rarely. That's where she's territorial though, but I think due to the scarcity of the digging that it may be a coincidence.

Hello, I really like the approach you take with your parrot and I have a question for you. I am going to adopt a 10 year old african grey parrot. I am 40 years old and I don't think it's fair to get a baby as it will surely outlive me. I live in the west of Ireland where the weather is just not ideal for these parrots and they shouldn't be here at all, but at least I'll try to do my best with one that is already here He's an only seed bird so I'll have to convert him and all that. I have a lot of foraging toys, an avian light and all ready for him but in the summer we get like 2 or 3 weeks of really good weather when I go to the river and swim and try to spend as much time outside as I can (like everybody else here). I live in an apartment so I don't have the space for an aviary. In the summer I would like just to be able to bring the bird along. As the bird is not a baby I imagine is going to be hell to try and get him used to a harness, I was wondering how would you go about it? I would like to give this parrot the best life he could possibly have. Thank you for everything you do to try to help people with their birds.
I have the same issue with Tukufu, she will easily forage for treats but not her pellets. Would you recommend not putting pellets in a dish and instead make her forage for them? I was thinking about doing that, but I am afraid she will starve because she isn't motivated to forage for the pellets, lol!
I'd recommend offering her fruits and veggies in the morning while putting her pellets in foraging toys. I've found that after she eats moist foods, she'll really crave for her pellets.

What brand pellets are you trying? Try Zupreem natural for cockatiels (the formula is the same as for large parrots, just a smaller size). Most pick eaters will take to that brand and if you want to convert to a different brand, it becomes easier. Try handfeeding your bird the pellet, so (s)he knows its safe. Also, feed your bird veggies and fruits prior. Once Smokey gets moist food, she will always eat pellets after.
also, what fruit and veggies do you recommend feeding and african grey, im curious because I recently bought him from my dad, and at his house he was on a seed only diet

Next, when she starts to fly, I will get her to come onto my hand. Only she learns pretty fast so I think she tires of the same trick quickly.
talking of drafts it might be a good idea to sheild part of the aviary so that she can choose to be protected from drafts, rain or sun as she chooses. Not sure how to do that without compromising the design of the cage though, and your aviary may already be protected enough anyway
I need help! Whenever my sun conure lands on the ground after she flys, she will go poop right where she landed. What can I do to change this behavior?? Shes about 5 months old if that helps

Same here. For many years my Timneh would exhibit such behavior, ...would dig and then look at me expecting to be taken out of the cage. Dig more if needed until taken out. Nowadays he just vocalizes to be taken out. No digging anymore.
Hello! My father and I are adopting a 14 year old Congo Grey named Ruby. I have done research in preparation for her arrival and have found your channel very informative. I know that they are sensitive to scents and have already gotten rid of our scented candle, my main concern now is incense. We are Vietnamese and burn them every day. What do you do when you and your family are burning incense? We are getting a chemical air purifier (allen fit50) and I don't know if that's enough. Should we keep her cage covered also? We are excited about her arrival and are anticipating the adjustment period (that hopefully isn't rough for her) but I don't want her to get hurt, but we also can't stop burning incense.Help would be greatly appreciated. Hi Ashley, we don't burn incense. I would recommend that you keep Ruby's cage far from where you are burning it, because the smell can be overwhelming.

Athul Prasad Bird is still getting used to a new environment. Talk to it, sing, leave the cage door open and put toys on top to encourage it to crawl around, and so on.

BJGvideos their is some familiarity on both parts but they are still building trust with each other. My Amazon seems to show more recognition and is using the soothing tones she was raised with like, “it’s okay, it’s all right”, and “Sweet, sweet bird”. It’s been a transition for the CAG as he was on a seed, cheese ball, frosted mini wheat diet. 😕 We’ve put him on pellets, fresh chop and he is taking to it well. Full vet check up and after a changed diet in the last 3 months he is doing very well. We are working on stepping up and biting as we build trust. He is such a sweet bird and so much quieter than our very spoiled Amazon. I’m in touch with their original owner who now lives in Australia and found out she actually owned the CAG, Sebastian, a year before she acquired Ruby the Amazon. So they are 25 and 24 years old!
Sadly, I feel obliged to comment on Smokey's behavior on your bed: it is a sign that her needs are not met in the context of captivity... Denying her access to the bed is the way to go, but it does not solve the problem: exotic birds are wild animals who do NOT belong in our homes as pets, and though this is difficult to accept, it is the truth.

Jaklantern From my experience with parrots they like to poop more on flat surfaces, but to fix this watch WingsnPaws potty training video.
That is normal. Is she clipped? Once you flight train her, you could potty train her to go in a specific location in the room.
