"when your parrots are busy is when they're really happy" *attempts to train or otherwise keep my Pionus busy*... Pionus: *flies away so he can loaf in peace*
I make toys for my birds website so I can buy all he needs but I sell parrot toys but I use items for texture I don’t care if that has to be shoe insoles ,, my 12 week old harlequin has been testing toys for me so I know parrots love them then they go on to my rescued lovebirds ,,.. it’s not open after lockdown.. I’ve loads to do..I got a rubber bath mat that bigbie loves
Smokey is the luckiest bird to have such a caring and resourceful owner like you. I just found you the other day and love watching your videos even though I don't own a bird. I own a Tiny Pomeranian.
What a pleasure it is to come to your site and view the lovely environment you've created for your bird. She's a very happy creature indeed. Wonderful work!
You are an awesome bird owner. I don't have a bird nor will I but I do love them and appreciate your genuine care for your bird in captivity. Smokey is amazing. It is so refreshing to watch her as I do watch many bird video's and some I refuse to watch as the bird owners should really consider what they teach their birds.
my Wife have a Husky, i showed her your channel and she subbed. we both agree that pet should be happy and we should invest time on learning how to keep our pets happier each day. thanks for sharing your passion and welcome back ofc ^^
Yes, thats a fantastic idea! Allow food to be their foraging toy/ brunch. Lol I also like the fact that your showing us how to put the food in the cage. Thanks for the beneficial help!! Glad your back!
I dont own a bird but find them very fascinating! You seem to me to be so committed to giving smoky the very best! That makes me happy for the both of you. It was good to know you are a teacher b/c your students couldnt be in better hands! I love your vids & thank you for going out of your way to make them for us. You evidently are a great teacher & will leave a lasting impression on them for the rest of their lives. You chose the right profession! Your kids are lucky. I remember the really good teachers in my lifetime & still appreciate them!!! 😀
I use cucumbers, squash and other fruits as foraging toys too. I also carve some small holes into them randomly with a knife, all different sizes, and then stick nuts or seeds (a variety) in the holes. I do it as a special treat. You have great advice!
I definitely would say this video is the best that I’ve ever watched. After seen lots of bird toys I think natural things are the best for our sweet birds. And I also do enjoy watching birds eating which is really healing.
Thank you! Always worth the wait to see what you and Smokey come up with! We've been putting around basil, dill (especially if in seed) cilantro, sunflowers (Beau goes crazy for these and they're not even in seed), chard, hot red peppers, parsley, calendula, nasturtium, cosmos (he likes the color). Just whatever is doing well in our garden. Again, thank you, we learn so much from you.
I always love your videos. I lost my marroon bellied conure 75 days ago. She was over 20 years old. And since you take care of smokey so well, it made me feel like I didn't take care of my baby girl so well. So I feel guilty I might have done something wrong, and she could have lived longer if I just did this, or that, that you suggested. So I don't want to get another bird for fear I might not give the next bird as good a life like you give smokey. So I live vicariously watching your smokey videos when you post them. Though I am lonely but don't want to make the same mistakes with another bird. Thank you for sharing smokey with us!
I've been a parrot owner for several years now and have never thought of using tough veggies as foraging fun/activity! Thank you for the great ideas! And it's so much fun tow watch you with her and see how happy she is, I really miss my grey and it does my heart good to see others. 😍
I really have adopted your methodology with grey keeping and enriching with my baby (have had since the day she hatched out of the egg) and she is now 5 months. My first grey (I have had macaws and cockatoos). They are different but I love her and your videos have transformed the way I train my birds now Thank you
Thank you soooo much for this video. I am going out of town and needed ideas. I love you and smokey! Hes so adorable! You are awesome. Going to follow all of this. and more!
Another wonderfully informative video. It is so relaxing to watch her foraging and destroying her veggies. You gave me lots of good ideas to use with my birds. Thanks!
My Gray will play for hours with a clean milk jug with the red labelbon the side.,...a empty water jug he doesn't have much interest. Fun to watch. Enjoy watching your videos.
I've never bought an artichoke before so I will see definitely be trying this out with my Flock! Thx for this! I wish my grey was as cuddly as smokey but he is far from it lol
Grady loves those cellophane wrapped fortune cookies. He likes popcorn in a ziplock bag. For the lovebirds the cuddle bone wedged into a toilet paper roll seems to give them a nice spot.
Thank you for this, great idea. Ive been trying to give my grey fresh veggies since he refuses to eat cut up previously frozen veggies, this is really good substitution
Artichoke, yes! Occasionally I've been giving my TAG a roll of blue mechanics towels, really thick texture and he loves them, but now seeing Smokey enjoy an artichoke I am going to try large vegetables; artichokes, whole bell peppers, green cause they're the cheapest. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thank you for taking so much time and effort sharing your wonderful ideas. I have two cockatiels in a huge room and big cage with access to the room. I've bought tons of toys, foraging toys and they don't touch them. I'll definitely try the veggies! Where did you get your aviary and what kind of plants are in there and perches. I want my little buddies to have a happy life! Thank you so much!!
I love your videos. Smokey is the happiest most relaxed looking grey I think i've ever seen. I have been having a most difficult time with my grey who began mutilating 6 years ago. I've had her 19 years she was fine before that. It is heartbreaking to see her like she is, and have to use collars, and to keep trying everything and only failing. What I wouldn't give to see her as content as your Smokey.
She is amazing - I wish I had an aviary for Jake. I have a very large cage but I live in the North-East of England which gets very cold so building an aviary wouldn't work for him. Smokey is amazing.
Fresh veg/fruit is one of the best toys I give my Grey. He loves to tear it up and throw it around, plus it's healthy and you can often use the parts you'd normally throw away like broccoli stems and the leaves around a cauliflower
Green beans, apple, baby carrots, broccoli, spinach stalks, pears, corn, blueberries, strawberries, green grapes - the family red lored amazon loves all these treats during the day outside.
I love this- wish I had an aviary like this for my birdies. Makes me happy to see your Smokey being spoiled so well! 😊
I'm really jealous of his aviary for my African Grey's sake 🙈🙈
I felt exactly the same
You can aim to enhance your birds lives in other ways by watching his videos
i recently got an African Grey Parrot called "Zebra" trying to get friendly with him :) wish me good luck guys
"when your parrots are busy is when they're really happy" *attempts to train or otherwise keep my Pionus busy*... Pionus: *flies away so he can loaf in peace*
I have a corella who is a real perch potato. His idea of keeping busy is a nice long nap.....
Both my pionus were 'couch potatoes', too. Great shoulder birds, though; their laziness made them perfect quiet companions.
Can I give my Grey Cabbage head?
A roll of toilet paper did absolute magic to my Grey!
Same goes for parakeets?
Lolol...I bet that was a mess!! How much fun he had!
Awesome video! I will try these suggestions for my grey! I love Smokey's bright yellow eyes!
Hey mikey love your videos

Great video ..m arvelous I enjoyed seeing that this is one happy, active bird!, reamining curious, exploring every new thingprewented to her!
I use cucumbers, squash and other fruits as foraging toys too. I also carve some small holes into them randomly with a knife, all different sizes, and then stick nuts or seeds (a variety) in the holes. I do it as a special treat.
You have great advice!
Love your videos, it’s amazing to watch Smokey and your advice for bird owners. Underrated channel.
Thank you!
I never thought of using veggies! What a great idea! TFS!
Thank you so much for these ideas. I know my birds will love my next trip to the grocery store!
I definitely would say this video is the best that I’ve ever watched. After seen lots of bird toys I think natural things are the best for our sweet birds. And I also do enjoy watching birds eating which is really healing.
Your videos are so informative and good, and you and Smokey share such an incredible bond!
Thank you for letting us check in. Beautiful bird. So cuddly

Hello! I feel like I'm watching an ASMR show. I love listening to smokey's crunch crunch bite. 😁👍👍👍

Cheaper and more natural way to go about a birds bordem. Great idea!
Haha so true. We give our birds usually outside branches (with apples/berries) and leftovers - from broccoli for example. The dig it.
Your videos are really helpful. I am getting my Grey in two days. I am learning heaps! By the way I love your avairy. x
