QUESTION OF THE REVIEW: What other classes do you think might go into a kitten academy that actually TEACHES something instead of just playing up the stereotype that cats are lazy?

Therapeutic Purring. People talk about how a cat's purring has some kind of healing properties to it? I imagine Corazon going into Kitten Academy and mentioning that he has a headache, which Head Mistress Derpy Cat uses to demonstrate the power of purring. She brings him up to the front of the class, gives him a little purring nuzzle, and then... his headache just floats away... Maybe cats really AREN'T so bad?
Easy: how to not make Cats 2019.
Speaking as a cat owner, might I suggest a class dedicated to finding the right kicker toys? This class teaches kittens how to kick their prey at immeasurable strength, pick their ideal kicker size, and stop sneezing every time they sniff a catnip-laced toy.
I’d give them a hunting class. Cats are much more independent than dogs and even domestic cats with home are usually seen chasing birds and mice. A hunting class to teach them different techniques and strategies could be really useful.
Gym class that uses perches and toys in a sort of obstacle course.
Remember when these movies where about dogs playing sports?

Personally, I would like to see a show where cats were the good guys. They lead some very interesting lives at night. And seeing them actually try and interact with dogs as well.

chihuahuas are terrifying, I totally believe that the other dogs would be scared of it.
They never stop barking. They're like small Karens. Except likable.
What bothered me the most wasn't the anti-catness (although that annoyed me to no end) it was the lack of chemistry between Muffin and Spark. If this was supposed to be about the bond between man and dog, then they needed to focus more on the bond forming between Muffin and Spark. But there are few episodes that focus on them. Most of the episodes have them interacting with their own species. Spark barely seems to care about Muffin until the last episode. Homeward Bound did more bond building in the first 15 minutes than this show ever did.
Couldn't agree more with what you had to say about the "magic thing making people love dogs" thing. No magical McGuffin would make anyone protect their pups from a vicious attack from a neighbor's dog. It's pure natural love, baby, pure natural love.
PS: We lost one of our dogs of 12 years to kidney failure today. Rest in peace, my Sony girl.

I couldn't agree more about the cat hate. Its a dumb trope when we've seen cats and dogs being friends. Maybe they're not friendly all the time, but still.

Canis Primus? First of all, there are already not one, but two dog-themed constellations in real life; Canis Major and Canis Minor; the big dog, and the little dog. Second, real-world constellations can and have been put to great use in movies that had good writing. I don't know if anyone has seen the movie Dragonheart, but the real-world constellation Draco is used to great effect not because it was reimagined as a source of magic, but as both a dragon Heaven and the namesake for the dragon who goes by Draco. THAT is what can happen with quality writing. Nothing stellar (hehe, I made a funny), but it's much better thought out than this.

I actually wouldn’t mind the idea of a magical embodiment of the bond between man and dog. But instead of it be a external force that the love for one’s pet is entirely dependent on, it would actually have been created by the bond forming.
I actually have a idea for it.
Imagine the first wolf to form a bond with a primitive Human. Now imagine the first object they use to play fetch with. Maybe a sturdy stick, or a ball created by cavemen? Maybe that item become a symbol for the bond between the two, and the spirit of said bond lives on in every loving dog, and dog owner. Meaning that stick or ball could be come a magical totem. This totem did create the love between man and dog, but it can be used to destroy it.
Or maybe it’s like the magical strings from Trolls 2. They think they need it, but they actually recreated the magic on there own.
I prefer Pound Puppies reboot's approach. Cats aren't evil and instead are just rivals, since they're both trying to find people to take them home.

the kittens teach puppies how to relax and channel energy more effectively and the puppies teach the kittens about being ready to cheer up their human.
then they grow up to love each other and learn to teach other animals how to use their skills to help humans, like teaching a parrot to talk to humans to help get them ready for work or school ECT.
Oh my god, VACUUM CLEANERS!! That's brilliant! Then they combine forces, destroy the monster, their humans get a significantly less scary Roomba, and the cat claims its rightful throne. "The beast has been slain! You are free to live your lives!"

Every darn dog movie is about cats being evil and dogs being good, I'm sorry, but those were written by dog owners. Cause someone who owns both cats and dogs would know that cats are just reserved and they can love as much as dogs if not more, sides, they CAN become great friends with the dog, even more than with the owner

Dogs getting to the school via fire hydrants makes a lot more sense when you realize humans get to the school via flushing themselves down the toilet. Doesn't make it less silly though.
Not all cats are evil. There are good cats like Oliver from Disney's Oliver and Company, Sassy from Homeward Bound 1 and 2, Figaro from Pinocchio and Duchess, Marie, Toulouse and Berlioz from The Arstrocats.
There is also Capper from the Pony Movie as well. Sorry if it was a bit sudden?
And don't forget Tibbs from One Hundred and One Dalmatians.

Yeah, "Pound Puppies" & "Littlest Pet Shop" did that premise better.
And "Paw Patrol" is definitely superior to that garbage show.

You know what gets me about the whole "Dogs and cats=enemies" bit? I have own both at the same time several times in my life and they never fought. And there are tons of youtube vids of cats and dogs being chummy or cute together. So where does this even come from?
My neighbor has a Chihuahua and a Rottweiler and the Chihuahua is always barking and jumping up and down, while the Rottweiler just stays slow motion and chill.
Zipper has become to me what Oopsie has become to Raven. Other than that, I'm so sorry you had to endure this steaming pile of doggie doo.

Another idea for ya... I thought of this show when seeing your animated storyboard on how animals CAN emote. The Silver Brumby is a really minimalistic show about australian wild horses that reuses animation as often as Filmation did. But, I somehow still got attached to it (even drew the characters as anthros decades ago) because the facial animation and the poses were expressive enough, even though our characters never do anything a real horse cannot do. Except, y'know, ACT, and have facial expressions. Reasons why Pup Academy, or the new Lion King, fails utterly.
Legit, the premise alone is very "You're destined to do great things, cause a wise old man once said: He's an asset to a mistake that we all saw coming, but did nothing to change the course of." Harry Potter on a whim is evidently strong with this show. The similarities are quite easy to spot as well. The toilet systems acting as channels to the magical world and the human world is very reminiscent to the Loos used in the Ministry of Magic. The doghouses, like you said are eerily plagiarising the four hogwarts houses, Slytherin, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Hell, we even have our own snotty-nosed Draco insert with the Chihuahua. All we need now is a bunch of hooded dogs in steel masks going "Strays are no good." and you've pretty much hit the nail in the coffin on the overabundance of Harry Potter content emanating with each episode.
Not saying there can't be more magical schools. But at least try to be a little more.... I don't know, creative with your storytelling than rip off a multimedia franchise (Even if the creator doesn't deserve any sympathies given the social community she states being openly hateful to the trans community, and no, her rags to riches story can only secure so much empathy before it's doused and forgotten about). Literally, it's not hard to make a fantasy show without having to depend on cliches built around a cardboard protagonist (Don't take it personally, I like Harry. But he's essentially the token chosen one of the franchise) and instead, bring some new ideas to the table. Then again, this is a dog show based on a brand of movies that were geared towards age four beneath, soooo, I suppose that guarantees my words are meaningless, cause these movies like to mock kids' intelligence, more than it builds it.

Do what you got to do, but cutting ties with someone because you disagree with their decision to cut ties with someone else (and subsequently supporting the offending party's channel for no other reason than spite) doesn't exactly put you on any kind of moral high ground. Gabe repeatedly and unrepentantly says "Your girlfriend and her kids are going to Hell", and I'm in the wrong for objecting to that? Cutting ties with someone who berates you for your values is called "integrity". Ultimately, I understand that I can't stop you from supporting whoever you want, but while we did the apparently "dick move" of disassociating with him just the once and moving on with our lives, he's been continuously making anti-LGBT posts for no other reason than to harass the woman I love. I used the love the Air Bud universe movies as a kid. I watched this show with some kids I was looking after, and it was a reminder of how stupid I think they all are now.

I’m one of the few people who is fine with the talking dog premise and generic LPS Popular settings, but WHY is it run by humans? Why can *they* speak dog, and why is it about them being a good dog, doesn’t that diminish all of the owner’s hard work training a dog? Can’t we just have a selective boarding school run by dogs for stray dogs and cats to give them a better life since being a stray sucks, and maybe they can find an owner when they graduate, or maybe just live somewhere better as a stray or work at the place somehow? That’d be like, ten times better than what we got!

A friend of mine brought up the 80s Pound Puppies movie...
In THAT movie: "Puppy Power", the power that binds human and dogs love for each other into a magical abilities (in the movie's case: the ability to talk to each other) was in a "Bone of Scone" which was in the same rock as Excalibur and was freeded when Arthur pulled the sword...
THAT makes MORE sense than this ENTIRE series! And that movie had cover songs based on stuff from the 50s! They also didn't stereotyped cats as bad there as here.

I'm lucky that I never saw this trash. I agree that Pup Academy should be animated instead of live-action. It would've made the show slightly better and please, no more anti-cat hate! This isn't Cats and Dogs! Also, Harry Potter is 99% more entertaining than this pile of doggie due.
Yeah I hate shows and movies that are just: Asshole dogs = good, cats who want to just sit around all day = bad. Then again, Boss Baby takes it to a whole other level by making asshole Nazi babies = good and all pets = bad.
You know what? In this universe it makes sense that a constellation is the only thing that makes people love dogs.

And yep I can relate to the blank animation! Just there is no appeal of dogs just having limited emotion in movement and soullessly staring into the voids of non-sentience space! It's like a low tier living vehicle.that only has a voice speaking out if it but only voice over or only bending the bumper. How unautononmous!
And yeah...the cat xenophobia is just out of control here. Definitely can be paralleled to a dictatorial regime...just imagine if thus school was subtly or downright promoting the bullying, mistreating or violence against cats along with some pose...jeez...

Imagine if the series was animated instead of live-action. I am not saying anything mean for the creater of the show. It is just my opinions and also for bobsheaux.
I agree. As Bobsheaux noted, that through animation you give the dogs emotion. With the animation the show would have made the animals display personality and emotional, as opposed to these poor real live animals run around with CGI mouths moving to the voices and no acting.

Even Buji, from those Argentine Dibu movies, is literally is better than Oopsie! her cutesy voice really tops it all off that made me go, "Awww!", just like something out of a Disney movie. I feel they are ripping her off, and have the dog talk like a Pokémon! It sounds like a good roast to poke fun of Pup Academy.
Whenever I see a horrible child “protagonist” who mouth off & disobey their parents in a movie/show Bobsheaux reviews, I always get flashbacks of the wolf pups in the alpha and omega sequels.
This show is loathsome, it's just cringe episode after cringe episode and I find the one about tolerance and acceptance to be the worst as it fails to convey its message as each student acts like well, racist douchebags and the Cats are stereotypically evil for the sake of being evil and this form of peace might as have been broken years ago. The teachers are hypocritical and I hate that the source of Love for dogs comes from either an Icicle or a constellation which makes it seem that love and affection is not real unless there's a stupid McGuffen. The Wolf thing seems...to have semblance of interest.

It's a dumb show, but I watched it because, y'know, dogs. About the only good things were Spark, and the pairing of snob teacher and gym coach as a bad comedy duo.

Another thing that we have to remember while watching that final scene is the age demographic for this show. If a very young kid watches this show, they’ll be very confused at what happened during that final fight thanks to the fade to the aftermath. If I was a kid and this show was around during my life time, I would be too busy asking what the hell happened to be sad.

It means that people are catching onto how bigoted the dogs are. No sane person would want a dog from this academy without some brain controlling magic involved.

Because the majority of the cats in this movie just wanted to sleep, so therefore it's better to be a bigoted dog than a lazy cat.
I never liked the buddy movies, I'm a huge dog person but even when I was a toddler I found these movies to be really annoying and stupid.

Final point is spot-on. I kinda love Cats & Dogs 1 and 2. A mix of real, puppetry/animatronics, and CGI. And the CGI is used to fully animate them. Sure they look like cartoons... but isn't that the point? So entertaining & memorable. And then Cats & Dogs 3 was another Disney-talking-animals flick. It sucks. Big-time. Boring. Bah.

Tolerance means just letting it be, regardless of whether or not you like it. If it one of these dogs just happens to hate cats... well, that sucks, but the important thing is that the dog respects the cat's right to exist.
