Tbh, I don't think that these people are "lost", it's more a general thing, most people have a distorted view of themselves, they don't see themselves as in how and who they are in context to their surroundings/world/reality, they rather see themselves as in how they want to be seen and associated with. Every person does it on some level. I'm white and fairly conservative, The way I was raised was to respect my neighbors whatever color they are.
