Like in the Go manga Getter Gai only gets used once! Even better is the chapter it debuts the original third pilot is like 'let's us 2 on the underwater enemy!' 'Hey we can't do that! Getter 3 is for underwater!' They get Gai in and defeat the threat...then the next chapter they use Getter 2/Sho and the quickly take out an under water enemy. LOL. I guess what's annoying is I feel like the third Getter form has the most consistency in always looking really good. Getter Dragon? Meh. Getter Lyger? Meh. Getter Posidon? Oh oh looks good! Just like Getter 3 and Shin Getter 3! New Getter 3 looks great too! Sorry this post got so long. As you an see I am passionate for the most overlooked Getter form.
I can imagine if get chan had her own anime the final episode would end with Ryouma, hayato, and musashi turning off the TV looking completely shocked and then smashing the TV into pieces. The next scene would have the animation studio celebrate being done with the anime only for getter robo to crash in and smash the building into rubble.

dansegful Yep. You're right. xD Getter Robo is as important as Mazinger Z or Grendizer. It's important because Getter introduce a new concept: the fact that three machines can combine into one, and they can change into 3 different forms to adapt themselves to the fight. Getter is also considered the father or some of the actual mecha series, like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (a lot of people compare Ryoma Nagare, the pilot of Getter 1, with Kamina). The death of an important character of Getter (I'm not going to say who, I don't like to spoil) is also considered one of the saddest deaths in the manga's world (I read this a long time ago). Shin Getter Robo / Getter Robo Armaggedon was very important to define the image of Getter. If you have played Super Robot Taisen (SRW), in most of the games Getter is represented with Shin Getter. And, I have to say it, I fell in love with all the charas of Getter when I watched Shin Getter! ... and that's all. Sorry if I sometimes fail with my English. xD

dansegful New Getter was a good place to start, since its the only Getter OVA that starts at the "beginning" of the story. But from there, you can watch whatever next, since none of the OVAs themselves actually are within the same continuity. They use the same characters and concepts, but different timelines/events/stuff. I would suggest Getter Robo Armaggedon next, as its one of my all time favorites. Since you know all the basics from Getter by watching New, just keep in mind GRA is in another continuity, and you will be fine. As far as the manga goes, New Getter starts similarly to the manga, but their plots become very different fairly quickly. The manga is very good, especially Getter Robo Go.

Most folks think Hayato is less crazy than Ryoma due to his cool and calm demeanor. Few know that the manga version of Hayato started out as a psychopathic leader of a group of high school activists (more like a gang of terrorists) who would rip a guy's face off when given the chance. He slowly adopted the cool and calm behavior he was associated with over the years with his psychopathic tendencies only resurfacing during intense situations like that time he savagely fought his way through Dr. Lando's cybernetic monstrosities to escape from the Vega Zone.
I will never forget how she made Ryoma, Hayato, and Musashi as her own bitches. I could just see how Getter Robo would be looking her like, “I’m so proud of you, sweetie. That’s my girl!” 🤣

The psuedo princess is the getter robo herself so it's not so much different because the Getter Emperor, for one of its incarnation, would most likely be piloted by the original 3 or with benkei for the getter 3.

Well, of all the super robots represented, Getter DOES have the highest chance of going berserk and eating the pilot. And she's a lot more fragile than the other robots (per SRW and the general fact that Getters are necessarily squishy to deform the way they do).
Yeah, in all fairness, any other setting the Getter Machines would be hangar queens. (Prototype technology with lots of cool features, but take waaayyyy too much maintenance to practically deploy) the only reason that they can be used as well as they are in series is because the pilots are just that good, and all their enemies are lethally allergic to Getter Rays. So her being an extremely dangerous spoiled princess makes a surprising amount of meta sense.
Getter is dificult machine to handle and kept and unlike its super robot bretheren on that time had tendency to even ate its pilot and going beserk. You can say it is similar to mazinkaiser which ended sealed and replaced by more tamed mazinger z and great mazinger. Its difference is getter dosent have tame version considering getter ray nature. In the end i kinda can see it as spoiled high maintenance ojou sama that will go beserk once triggered.

So her being an extremely dangerous spoiled princess makes a surprising amount of meta sense.
Getter is dificult machine to handle and kept and unlike its super robot bretheren on that time had tendency to even ate its pilot and going beserk. You can say it is similar to mazinkaiser which ended sealed and replaced by more tamed mazinger z and great mazinger. Its difference is getter dosent have tame version considering getter ray nature.
In the end i kinda can see it as spoiled high maintenance ojou sama that will go beserk once triggered.
