Thank you so much for your studying techniques. I not only enjoy them more, but also they are more useful! I just have one dilema: How can I get information from youtube videos without the need to rewatch them? I was taking notes while watching your videos to do what you said. Is there a better technique.
And I didn't understand the difference between active recall and practice testing! I mean you practice questions during active recall. I think that during active recall you solve specific question over and over again. but during practice test you just solve questions or tests and doesn't need to repeat them (except for the ones you got wrong)
I spent 30 minutes counting all the spiders in my house because I don't want to call the dentist to make an appointment. Now I'm watching this video. Then I'll probably clean the house and try clearing out those spiders and prevent new ones from setting up camp. Than it'll be 4pm and the dentist will be closed...my life isn't all that distracted, I am...
Honestly, I think it is one of the biggest problems of the world today. We cannot figure out what to prioritize. And as a person who sometimes thinks really -reealllyy- deep into about that kind of stuff, this video got me. Thank you Zach. I just sent this video to my best friend and said "See? This is how I want to live." I will.

congrats to all of you for getting into medical school, i hope this is the start of long and happy careers! I'm currently halfway through med school and I remember how first year felt like a bit of a shock to the system as you were faced with increased workload, etc. you've all got this, med school is difficult so don't be harsh on yourselves if it takes a little while to find your footing. remember that you earned your place at med school, meaning you have enough intellectual and emotional intelligence to succeed - that's why you were accepted, you deserve to be there. remember to take breaks and avoid getting bogged down in the details - it's literally impossible to learn everything in medicine, focus on understanding broad concepts well and everything will follow. keep in touch with loved ones and make time for self care as well as your studies. best of luck, my fellow future doctors!
This really hit me in terms of how much time I was spending on unimportant things and how many important things were falling off. It was good for me to make the lists as it was difficult to ignore then how poorly I was managing my time.
I've been struggling to get back on track on trying to get my grades up and focusing on what's important. I really needed this. I will come back when I succeed!
I am so glad I came across this video. I am a college student, and recently, I feel like I’ve added too much to my plate. Thank you for the awesome advice to declutter your life and focus on what’s important!!
4th year medical student here - never gets easier as you progress through life and definitely a good reminder for everyone out there! Thanks for the great piece of wisdom Zach 🙏🏻
I was very distracted but for two years now I see my life change with mental support, with workout, journal, meditation, healthy food, read books, push away toxic people, focus only on me,drink a lot of water, sleep 8 hours, acceptance, enjoy little things, pray and most important forgive yourself and others and love yourself even in the hardest days
I appreciate how at least it feels like you actually teach by example. As in, it feels like you've applied these principles and experimented with them yourself before making this video. I really appreciate you for that
Removing those inessential tasks or elements of life has had the greatest impact on not only my productivity but overall stress and wellness. Good advice
I was feeling low and stressed between balancing important and unimportant things in my life. And then this video popped in my RUclips screen. I just want to say thank you for sharing your thoughts it helped me in a way that it gives me hope to start.
Thanks for these videos Zach. I'm 14 and they inspired me to start actually utilizing my time while I'm still young, which is something I've been depressed about for some time thinking I didn't enjoy my early teens and even when I was a kid. I've gone back to Duolingo to finally start consistently studying german to learn another language and I'm seeking to do way more this year. Again, thanks so much and good luck on your journey too man :D.
Really appreciate your vids. You put in a lot of effort and one can feel that you sincerely want to help people with it. That and the fact that you can show vulnerability is what makes you different to other RUclipsrs. This way you're much more believable and motivating, because it feels like we're told by a friend and not a teacher. Thank you and take care.
How lovely! I clicked on this video thinking from the title it would be a long rambling of all the things I shouldn’t be doing, but instead it was a very clear video with a good action plan. Well done. :)
Dear zach I m a student at 9th grade , I m truthfully speaking my life was a complete mess until saw your video and it changed my life forever , I inherited good practices and most importantly I stopped playing games and focused myself completely on studying . All thank to you dear ..🥰🥰
Zach, what a good job on this video because everyone wants to live a more fruitful life but gets bogged down in the mundane crap that we need to, as you say, eliminate or minimize. I have had 4 items on my written list that I consistently avoid doing and so the only thing I’m good at is writing lists! As a side note, I would consider doing the Italy trip because you already “speak” with your hands…😊. The best to you Zach and thank you for the life lesson.
I'm on my second semester of medical school and my inability to study consistently is starting to scare me that I'm going to fail the finals exam. I've been here before, changed up my procrastination habits by simplifying tings and know it works extremely well and that I feel a lot better by doing so. I've done this TWICE before, and yet I'm back to feeling like my phone is a drug. I can't delete my phone, or even all social media, because social life is extremely important to me, but this shit has to change. Screen on time being 6h/day on a weekday is surreal. Starting tomorrow I'm cutting out Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram on weekdays. Thanks for the push to actually get my shit together! (ps. hope I actually do get my shit together)
I have an app on my phone called ‘Grid Diary’ I have put up things there on different templates that are the things I should be doing ideally in a day, a week, a month and making a list there to tick off had really helped me realise what was important to me. In a day it’s just simple things like doing my skincare, having my meals, either going out or doing my assignments that day etc etc. I think having a checklist like that really helps also.
I was just telling myself how unfocused I am right now. I’m in medical school and I have so much to study but find myself so unfocused and procrastinating.
I've been doing this for over a year now, definitely got rid of lots of things and also people that were not supporting my life anymore. I'm more focused and take care about what I put into my life. I'm more sensitive to what's really serving my path. The issue is that now I'm so focused on only doing important and productive things that I can't do anything spontaneously that I'd usually like to do. I don't meet friends as I could spend my time exercising or studying, I don't have food that's not nutritious, I only do the bare minimum for family chores etc and people say I became egoistical. My creative passions started declining because I don't have the inspiration of daily life anymore. So I think there should be a middle way, it's okay to spend some time with unimportant but fun things and not be so strict about oneself. Nevertheless, this method is an amazing tool and very beneficial especially if we feel overwhelmed or lost and need a new start!

Hi Zach! I'm currently studying physical therapy as my pre-med. Thanks for this; I really need this to build an indestructible work ethic as I consistently prepare myself for med school proper. Godspeed!
We call that the "if then there place". When somebody asks you for something unusual you go: if I have it then it's there. Every flat has one and it's place is normally determined by putting batteries there first.
I always find myself putting essential but not crucial tasks in front of those that need the most attention. If I have a paper due tonight by midnight, all of a sudden I have to do my laundry I haven't done in a week, clean my bathroom, wash the dishes, clean out my car, get rid of apps on my phone, call family I haven't spoken to in weeks, etc. All of these are important tasks that need attention, but they're not as important as my paper that's due. It makes it easier to justify doing them because these are all "good" things that SHOULD be done. I should instead, prioroitize my time better to do those tasks so I don't use them as a "justifiable crunch" or distracting from the more pressing deadlines.
You can ALWAYS find something "more important" to do than studying. You can always find something to turn into an urgent matter or emergency. "Oh I just HAVE to organize my bookshelf so my space is clean enough to think in." No you don't. That's where will power and self awareness comes in.

We call that the "if then there place". When somebody asks you for something unusual you go: if I have it then it's there. Every flat has one and it's place is normally determined by putting batteries there first.
That was lovely, thank you
I always find myself putting essential but not crucial tasks in front of those that need the most attention.
This is so amazing!
