Family Spots Missing Relative Who Was Lost at Sea

- Dylan Gartenmayer went spear-fishing with friends in Florida when a rogue current swept him along the ocean floor. However, when he surfaced, the boat with his friends was gone. The U.S. Coast Guard was searching for him but Gartenmayer's family launched their own rescue mission. After speeding off in a relative's boat, they finally spotted Gartenmayer floating in the ocean.
That grandpa's boat speed hits the new world record for sure. What a wonderful story!

I don’t think people understand how difficult it is to spot a person in the open deep waters, especially when they aren’t wearing a life jacket with reflective gear. It is like finding a needle in a haystack. I love how everyone seems more relieved than the actual survivor though. He seems unphased. 😂
Definitely a needle in a haystack, but it seems Dylan had some sort of inflatable/illuminated buoy 0:20 which likely helped locate him

It’s harder than finding a needle in a haystack. You can find the needle by sitting in the haystack, or rather, it will find you. The ocean is so vast, and the water doesn’t stay put.
Although the authorities tried their best to find him, his friends and family were supremely motivated to search and as a result they saved his life. Great story!.
They shouldve told the coast guard that he may have found underwater oil reserves for motivation

Omg it really is a miracle that in all that open sea he could of been at and they found him!! Unbelievable!! I'm so happy for them! I can't even imagine the excitement they felt when they found him!! What a huge relief!!! Hope the guy takes extra precautions from now on. Hes so dang lucky! Never underestimate the sea! It's a whole other world out there.

Situations like this is where drones with 360 degree video would be perfect to deploy. It's really difficult to see across swell's and just going straight up and hovering above the boat would greatly increase the likelihood of not overlooking a missing person. That family is awesome and he's lucky to have them. What a happy ending.
Wow. The feelings that probably went through him in the moment not only seeing a boat approaching and the thought of hopefully this is his recue, but to then hear his own family's screams of joy and realizing it's them coming to his recue. Wow. Probably the most joy he's ever felt in his whole entire life, even being in the situation he was in.

I bet Dillon was BEYOND HAPPY he was found when he was found at dusk because the open ocean is probably the scariest thing you could ever imagine at nighttime in pitch black.
That feeling of spotting him in the water must have been crazy. One second fear and sadness than a rush of excitement and joy after spotting him

Now that’s a nice reunion. I’m always happy when anyone is found alive lost in sea. But it must’ve been real heartwarming to see that his rescuers were also his family.

Blood is thicker than water. Friends can be temporary but family is eternal. Siblings can bicker and threaten to skewer each other, but the second an outside danger presents itself they'll drop everything to help. And when loved ones go missing, their families will do anything to get them back.

For anyone that hasn't been diving in the ocean that thinks it would be hard to lose someone in the daytime. It's so easy to get swept away like that so many divers wear a rope that's tethered to the boat. When you come up sometimes you have to look around for your boat because you get so disoriented in the water and if you've wandered off swimming you can get really far away in no time at all. Good job to his friends to send out an alert instead of just searching on their own, they may have never found him if they hadn't been smart enough to get others involved.
