As a woman in this community I have to say there is a lot of chaos going on more than just the people thinking their shit don’t stink. I am always changing direction and learning new ways to make music. I have a hard time trusting anyone because people are just focused on money and see you as a cash option.
I think Bolo giving both good and terrible advice though... Why would you submit your beats to other producers! What's that gonna do? Let's be honest producers who are actively looking for a music career are HATERS! It's just human nature they're gonna look for any reason why you're not good and they're better than you. The only opinion that matters if you're selling beats is... are artists buying? Or if you're doing sessions are the artists and you writing great songs and feeling the music you're making together, enough to put it out??? Another producer could love your tracks, guess what they're not your customer. Clout any gonna pay the bills. And are you really producing for other producers?
I have been told that my compositions are great but my mix is bad. I’d been working on it and running into brick wall limitations for decades trying to get better mixes. I’ve only gained ground since watching videos from influencers like yourself. Now I know that a good mix is the main ingredient of a cohesive successful composition. Thanks and much appreciated.
That's why I listen to all criticism and try to soak up all the valuable game I can because you can never stop learning or getting better at your craft!!!
If someone says your work isn’t it… simply ask them why it isn’t “it” … the person criticizing should be able to articulate their opinion and if you’re mature enough, you should be able to receive it. You should also make sure that you’re evaluating your work against the right folks. If you make hip hop, gospel fans aren’t necessarily the best to critique it objectively

The word "producer" when used as a title is already "entitled" if you ask me. I've been writing/recording/publishing music from some iteration of my home studio for 25+ years, and in actual commercial studios for 15 years before that. Does that mean *I'm* a "producer". I just call myself a musician. A little humility goes a long way these days. Thinking you're something more than you are, or worse yet, PROJECTING that attitude....you reap what you sow. Don't be surprised when doors start closing and noses start turning up when you just walk in the room. Me, I'm nobody. I'm just doin' my thing over here and if someone likes it, so be it. If not...that's ok by me too. I still had fun writing, recording, and publishing the results. Side note: Loving your content. Glad I found your channel.
Yo, you must be reading my mind because that’s exactly how I think. I ain’t no producer because I’ve never produced a record for anyone. I am a musician though, whether I ever produce a record or not.

There's a delicate balance between staying true to one's voice and embracing the new insights that come through collaboration. Once I realized that clients come to me with a trust that I can translate their vision into sound, I learned to treat their feedback not as critique of my skills, but as a kind of roadmap. I see it as a guide to refine the sound, push the project to a new height, and deepen my understanding of their artistic perspective. In this process, I'm often nudged beyond my comfort zone, discovering fresh techniques and nuances that later enhance my own projects.
There is a fine line between objectively giving feedback and not making it sound personal, and them taking it personally because of how subjective art and music is. The fact is that there is in a lot of ways an objective outlook on an overall "this is what this genre generally sounds like and its good" etc but still people will have their opinions no matter what haha. I guess for me its more about how to give the most constructive criticism without coming off as blatantly brushing off the work they did. Of course the person taking the criticism has to be aware of what they are doing as well or else what is the point of putting out your work to the public anyways? It would be better if those people that are not ready to take criticism, don't release their music to the public 😅Also side note, I make beats and rap but I know I suck at rapping compared to beat making but yeah I am accountable for my own work 🥲🤣

There has been too much talk around music lately, if I work with a rapper (for a new track) I send to him at least 5-6 different patterns, softly mixed, to get an idea; simply if he/she doesn't feel any of that, there is not match. If I get in touch (or asked) for a remix, I make sure the person has a clear idea of my sound, and the genres I tend to mix together when I cook a beat. I fully respect those who offer service-like beats and studio sessions, I just decided to be an artist, so I respect my own soul and spirit, which has its own nature, cannot simply be "whatever someone else is looking for". To improve my sound I just train my listening skills and compare my sound directly with other tracks I really love.
I tried to do as a producer, but someone gave me a multi LP deal and that freed me to be an artist and getting criticism in that lane is way different. I am glad to look at music the way I do now as an artist or band member rather than a producer. You couldn't tell me shit when I was trying to be a producer.
They don't understand what Critiquing means I guess. These people should take your advice. I think your opening track is is proof of your abilities as far as music production goes. Very cool!
I watch your beats reviews and i listen with the austrian audio hi x65 so i can compare i guess what you hear and i can say that i pay a lot of attention when you say that something sounds trash even if the vibe of the song is good and i can say it helped and helps me getting better mixes at least... so i think your critics are valuable!
Appreciate you for keeping it 100 Bolo. I put my beats on your show a couple times to hear your opinion and advice. Lot of folk I think there friends blow there heads up instead of being truthful so they have this unrealistic view. To get upset at constructive critisism is crazy work. I have a few friends who are platinum artists and I value there opinion on a huge level cause like you they been there and done that right? Again thank you for your honesty I think it's the key to growth right? With out feedback we sometimes can't see our flaws.
It's not the gear it's you and Entitled Producers are some of the best things I've heard from you the truth is the truth and you are so spot on awesome Bolo 💯🔥
Constructive Criticism is a part of the music scene. When you get to the point where you get a music supervisor for tv and film. THEY WILL TELL YOU TO DO SOMETHING OVER OR CORRECT A MIX. It’s part of the game! They need to change their attitude and just listen or they will miss out on a lot of opportunities.
I understand your frustration bolo i used to be mad but i had to simply jus get better n come back n still continue to do that til this day but i never was bitter about being criticized especially from someone with experience
Yeah I’ve seen all of the above. I think recognizing real advice is a skill by itself, but maybe it can’t be taught. Humility is also about upbringing and once someone gets older, it’s harder to teach a person that. It becomes like a core part of who they are. In the end critique and criticism are the greatest thing an artist could have. There’s also such a thing as “toxic positivity” too, where no one will tell you something is wack because they don’t know how to say it or they think you wont react well. So I would rather have people be as real as possible at all times no matter what. The more specific the criticism the better it is. The worst kind of criticism is the kind you can’t use to pivot or learn. But generally people who give real criticism can also give specific examples of what needs to change. Sort of the best way to judge whether someone is being honest is whether they can actually articulate the specific good things or issues they recognize and, maybe offer a way to improve.
@ Hey Bolo, I finished the video and I don’t want to be that guy, but I thought about what you said here and you seem like a pretty straightforward dude. I have some tracks that I would love to see what you think about, and I think 10% of publishing is absolutely fair for any track you think you can rock with and find an artist for. Can even slap a Bolo tag on there too alongside mine for any we place. If you like what I send I have around 60 ready to go. I have an A&R contact in LA who would take any tracks I don’t place with you, and I am planning on Beat Leasing and doing Exclusives soon for anything that he doesn’t lock in his catalog. So this would be a “First Look” situation. Would also legitimately love to hear if any are wack too if that’s the case lol. Is there a way to get in contact to see what you think about a few tracks?
I know I'm on the right path. @4:40 is how I handle criticism that I may not agree with. And @6:45 I do the same. Except I describe it as "push-ups". I have plenty mid and trash beats. But when I make that 🔥...😤

I don’t understand why people act a certain way when they receive constructive criticism no one is gonna help someone that acts rude and disrespectful that’s not how the world works 💯 When people give me feedback I listen and understand it and try to become better. I’m not perfect but I respect other peoples opinions.
I dont even work well with others thats why I do this for me I dont need nobodies seal of approval, but for those that want to work with others what you are saying is absolute truth.
If they aren't hating on you then listen to the criticism and remember it, even if you don't agree with it. You should be your harshest critic. There's always something you can learn to get better and there's always something you can do to improve a beat. There's also always somebody better than you, so keep working.
This new generation of cats are to sensitive. I hate how things have transitioned into not being able to give ppl an honest critique without it being perceived as hate. Constructive criticism is no longer wanted. They just want ppl to yes man them. The truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth.
I remember that video where T-pain was listening to people’s beats and songs and he flipped because they all sounded the same!! 🤣 he had one dude in his feelings! If you can’t take criticism, how can you expect to get better?
I remember auditions with singers and producers for the label. You would just say "you need to work on this a little before you come again in a few months" and they would get pissed and curse like "Who do you think you are?". 😂 Well, the person that can change your life
The avant garde mentality only has utility for those who have rich benefactors. There is often a different sacrifice in those circles, such as the casting couch or baby oil parties...
This is what needs to be heard. It’s funny though when Bolo said, “I’m saving this beat for Jay-Z” 😂 I made a beat and said to myself, “I’m saving it for 50 Cent”, “In Da Club part 2”😂😂😂😂. I just ended up giving it to one of my homies.
So producers complain about sharing 10% if you help with a placement?! That's just greed... helll, I'll give 20% !! I've never been a stingy individual; I always give flowers when I need to. Plus I'm looking at the long run; relationships are essential & I'll never burn a bridge over money!
Realistically some of these producers is just starting out and not even ready to be submiting beats. They think these beat reviews is gonna fast track them to finish line. At the end of the day they gotta put them 10,000 hours in some is gonna be hit or miss.

When I was 21 I literally got given an MPC60 by a producer in his 40s and he said, "Here, now you can stop making stiff beats." 😂Well he stopped making music went bankrupt and sold off his friends studio equipment to pay off his debts. He was a huuuuuuge hater!!! If I listened to him I wouldn't have gone on to get 2 major label deals and a publishing deal. I walked away from music in 2016 for a career that paid me more than I ever got from music and can honestly say the perspective shift made me see the hater in myself! Moral of the story is don't have a thin skin, keep making music and realise that ALOT of feedback from your peers will come from a place of hate. Numbers don't lie! At the end of it all you'll be old and out of the game. Are you proud of what you made???
@@crnkmnky I was using an MPC2000xl lol, he might have thought I was just using Cubase, 'cause I always used to track everything out to a Cubase project. At that time we were getting signed making 4 to the floor dance music. You remember that music phase right where everyone was rapping over dance beats. I was doing Daft Punk inspired stuff and getting signed for that. These old heads were making like funky garage, 2 step and hip hop. And no an MPC60 won't magically mean your beats aren't stiff! Also it's a point of comparison even DJ Premier sounds stiff if you directly compare his beats to Dilla. A Locked in 4 Count Kick drum will always sound stiff compared to loose break stuff etc. So yeah massive hater, the numbers alone show I was doing something right! At least I still have that same MPC60 to this day! 😂

Thanks for supporting the beat reviews and supporting my opinions 🔥
That why I quit music and make this my hobby
If it's your hobby, you never quit
It's not the gear it's you and Entitled Producers are some of the best things I've heard from you the truth is the truth and you are so spot on awesome Bolo 💯🔥
Constructive Criticism is a part of the music scene. When you get to the point where you get a music supervisor for tv and film. THEY WILL TELL YOU TO DO SOMETHING OVER OR CORRECT A MIX.
It’s part of the game!
They need to change their attitude and just listen or they will miss out on a lot of opportunities.
this is SO true, you always speak the truth man! 🔥 love your content
I agree!
I love that taking shots analogy i do the same thing. You can always improve and sharpen my skills.
Absolutely!
You're on point Sir! 💝
I know I'm on the right path. @4:40 is how I handle criticism that I may not agree with. And @6:45 I do the same. Except I describe it as "push-ups". I have plenty mid and trash beats. But when I make that 🔥...😤
That’s why you will be successful!!
Respectfully Big Bolo. I have reached out to u for two years n I jus sit on read. I'm like wth I do but we gotta start there. At least let's start by being responsive to each other. No one is obligated to do anything but if a brother reaching out, a reply won't hurt I'm coachable n I listen to critiques. Even if u don't want to be bothered just communicate that...... I don't understand why we do this to each other. Me.....I jus want to build great relationships and make dope music. Entitlement has def killed our community. Ftr is anything I can do for our community tap in. That's for all my producer brothers. Salute to all my producer brothers and sisters. I'm here to build with y'all. @bolo
My bad, I get a ton of requests and sometimes it takes me a while to notice them. However, what’s up? And what’s your IG handle do I can search for you
Bolo, RUclips created this behavior which include the FL studio community thinking all you need is a laptop and cracked software under the assumption that anyone can make music.
I don’t understand why people act a certain way when they receive constructive criticism no one is gonna help someone that acts rude and disrespectful that’s not how the world works 💯 When people give me feedback I listen and understand it and try to become better. I’m not perfect but I respect other peoples opinions.
The online music production community can be a weird space at times.
Yep
Facts 💯.... i've also met a lot of rappers like that back in the day too... super entitled, acting like they're the best thing out....smh
It's sad that these days if anyone has an opinion contrary to what someone else wants to hear, that's called hate.
I remember that video where T-pain was listening to people’s beats and songs and he flipped because they all sounded the same!! 🤣 he had one dude in his feelings! If you can’t take criticism, how can you expect to get better?
Right!
Well said, thanks Bolo!
The problem is the overall culture in the industry and the lack of trickle down success makes everyone delusional and sour
I honestly don’t know what to do with my beats
I'm with you, I just make music to make it. I don't know if it is "good" or not
Try to find artist that will get them
@@MrDoublebeats same here
I remember auditions with singers and producers for the label. You would just say "you need to work on this a little before you come again in a few months" and they would get pissed and curse like "Who do you think you are?". 😂
Well, the person that can change your life
Yes I’ve definitely been there!
The avant garde mentality only has utility for those who have rich benefactors. There is often a different sacrifice in those circles, such as the casting couch or baby oil parties...
Thank you for saying this bro.
Any time
Bolo telling dat truth again!🙌
This is what needs to be heard. It’s funny though when Bolo said, “I’m saving this beat for Jay-Z” 😂 I made a beat and said to myself, “I’m saving it for 50 Cent”, “In Da Club part 2”😂😂😂😂. I just ended up giving it to one of my homies.
Don’t think of it as hate. Think of it as a cheat code to growth!
The best person to have around you is someone who is honest with you. Too many yes men and clout chasers out here.
A great review and sound feedback …. No pun intended
Peace King, whats your process for song reviews?
We all need a little constructive criticism, it builds character.
Da Trillest 2Eva Do It Bolo 🔥
Thanks Bolo this resonates.
Thanks for listening
I learned you Gtta take criticism bc everybody not gone like your beats ..but i keep pushing to get better everyday ..it's motivating
💯
Peace & Blessings!
Man Bolo, you speaking facts bro.
How often do you do beat Critiques I just need other people to hear what I've been hiding in my laptop its time.
So producers complain about sharing 10% if you help with a placement?! That's just greed... helll, I'll give 20% !! I've never been a stingy individual; I always give flowers when I need to.
Plus I'm looking at the long run; relationships are essential & I'll never burn a bridge over money!
Trust me a lot of producer have lots placements that way!
Realistically some of these producers is just starting out and not even ready to be submiting beats. They think these beat reviews is gonna fast track them to finish line. At the end of the day they gotta put them 10,000 hours in some is gonna be hit or miss.
If I don’t know something teach me I’m willing to learn to get better at my craft
🔥
Everybody needs help. OG wisdom
I only have a music career bcoz I work with others, it's always good to be a good person & work well amongst ya peers
Its The Truth Bro i have industry producers in my family and Friends its like a Cancer That i believe only God Can Remove Bolo i like to Be told the truth instead of a Lie King RESPECT FOR THIS VIDEO 💯💯 🙏🙏💪💪
Thanks!
Constructive criticism should be a music producer’s love language🎉
Just be willing to open your mind and listen and learn
Damn that sounds like the chair at the end of the barbershop that always has a new barber rotating out
lol.. it’s comfortable!
@@BoloDaProducer comfortability is where progress dies. Mindset is the hardest thing to change.
@@blakasmurf Yeah, but were your beats stiff, did you use that MPC, and what were you using before?
“I made 3 beats but they should go to jay right now” LMAO
I hear you, I corrected a guy on one of his beats that had a note that was out of key, and he got offended. those guys want guys that will pander to their weakness.
They can’t take criticism Bolo, they have learn how to take criticism that’s how you get better.
PREACH!!!!
Wow!! Unbelievable people think like this.
Wasted 5 years because of this! I had a producer I was trying to teach. But because of that Ego that Bolo mentioned he turned against me and tried to steal my production style instead! He Fell Off entirely. He did that after he found out I was the first rapper in my city to get a real recording deal. Bad timing on his part 😂
I definitely feel you!
*Is this a low key response video to "that other guy"?*
No.. I don’t know who the “other guy” is
Bolo! Salute man
Thanks!
