Watch the video again! Shaq shouldn't be on the list at all. He didn't shatter the glass. He hung on to the rim and pulled down the goal and the shot clock. The other one is no also. He hung on to the rim and pulled down the support beam. Sorry! Slam and break the glass or hang on to the rim and break shit. I would take a couple of them off this list.

@@fryelee11 Shaq is the reason on this list is because the man changed not just how the nba made backboards but how the entire world makes them the dude even had a tree he hangs rims backboards he's broken the nba had to make the backboards withstand 1000+ pounds of weight bc of this man but you dare say the man doesn't deserve to be on this list if anything this should just be a Shaquille O'Neal highlight reel this man changed the art of dunking for not just the history of the nba but the NCAA and any other basketball industry on in our dimension

That’s not true at all, you clearly are too young to know who Darryl Dawkins was but he use to smash backboards in the 80’s. After him the NBA decided to construct something much more solid and after that they had absolutely no problem and let me tell you they had big time dunkers back in that era. Then Shaq showed up!! No player before or during his career demolished the backboards besides him so that should tell you everything. Next time just do the research before you post lies because other idiots will think you're telling the truth. Sorry for being tough on you, but I don’t like liars.

This entire video is a compliment to Wilt Chamberlain. There was not a nicer man to play basketball. Wilt Chamberlain played at 300 to 310 lb and 7 ft 2. He had a bench press over 500 pounds according to Arnold Schwarzenegger. He could have shattered every backboard in the league if he wanted to, but he had the good sense to hold back. His fade away jump shot and moves off the glass were an attempt to keep the game going, not to show off and stop the game with an equipment failure.

I like Jordan's the best, because he didn't break the glass from hanging on the rim, it was just the pure force of his dunk, flying high from the free throw line, he didn't hold on to the rim at all, he just shoved the ball in with pure force.

I remember seeing Shaquille's dunk in Phoenix Live, as it happened. This one didn't break the backboard, the goal just kind of collapsed backwards. Only six of these were NBA. Shaquille also shattered a backboard at a local gym on NBA Inside Stuff. Back in the old days, when very little basketball was televised, there was a player named Chuck Connors who destroyed two backboards... in the SAME game!

It shouldn’t surprise me that Jordon probably has the best broken backboard dunk in history, but I really expected Shaq to win this one.
I can’t believe the poster of this video put it as 3rd best. Jordon jumps over a huge guy from one step past the free throw line, proceeds to fly through the air and dunk with one hand. He then then shatters the backboard raining glass on 4 opponents while he smoothly walks out the way. Every opponent is holding up their hands shielding their eyes and faces from the falling glass. I don’t know if that one can ever be topped.

    • @Veganerd_

Those old setups had bolts or something else going through the glass to hold the rim on, which means the force/power of someones dunk went right in to the glass, causing it to break sometimes. After those days, they redesigned the whole apparatus so that no force is exerted on the glass, and also so that the rest of it should be strong enough to withstand dunks. And somehow, Zion Williamson has managed to damage a couple of them. lol
