I've seen many different schools strength & conditioning programs and I have to say this is by far the BEST i've seen in terms of functional movements, proper technique and just overall hardwork. I'm proud of these men and the Army team.
I can't even begin to imagine what these guys go through daily. It's hard enough just being a student at West Point, but to be a football player as well has got to be even more excruciating. One thing I know is all these guys are smart and disciplined and will make excellent officers in the Armed Forces! God bless these young men!
I watched the video before reading any comments and was amazed with the discipline on benching. The players actually give a great pause before pressing on bench! Outstanding! I saw a few short squats and narrow stance box squats, but all in all am very impressed with their s&c program. MUCH better than some major D1 programs that I know.
This training seems to be built around Bill Starr's Big Three exercises: Squat, Bench Press and Power Clean, mostly. Classic football strength training.
I would give anything to see Army and/or Navy return to the top 25 in football. These programs were unstoppable back in the day. I feel they will be soon within the next 5 years
@NorwichGrad97--you are exactly right. Is is probably the football strength/con video (at any level) where the olympic lifts are actually performed at an above average level. I think I saw only one "clean jumping jack". Excellent coaching! Also, good depth on the squats, minimal bouncing on the benching, and great explosion on the box squats. With that said.......Go Air Force!!
I'm hella glad these guys are tasked with protecting our country. I think I'd wet myself if I was on the other side and these guys came sprinting forward.
arching your back allows you to be much more stable whilst pressing. it doesn't "work" your back, yes your back muscles might be contracted by doing that but majority of the work still comes from your triceps, chest and front shoulders.
The reason there is an arch in his lower back is because when you bench you're supposed to retract your scapula (as in pull your shoulder blades back). This keeps your upper back tight and puts your shoulders in a much safer and stable position. However I think I get what you're saying but as long as he's keeping his ass on bench and upper back tight, there's no dangerous form issues in regards to his spine.
Because no matter how hard you train, there are still guys with extreme size and athleticism, outliers on the bell curve, who choose to go to BCS schools with fancy dorms and lots of pretty girls and in practice they work plenty hard.
Well to be honest there was a period (just a guy lifting trying to make gains no professional) where I think i may have tweaked my back by over arching it during the bench. may have, so there is the possibility. although what really worries me is knees past toes when cleaning. not sure what to think of that...
if you go up explosive this is what happens. the weight should not be on your traps (hope they are big enough) otherwise it might indeed bother your spine
Hello there! Thanks a lot for this helpful video. By the way, I hear a lot of people keep on talking about Zumlaxoc Training Program (do a search on google), but I'm not sure if it's good. Have you considered this football program called Zumlaxoc Training Program? I've heard many great things about it.
@FamousPoloG Except for when they are benching. That arch man...take two of those and make a McDonalds sign out of them. Great way to get an injury and a few extra pounds on the bar.
@49fortyniners they may be very skinny but they all have a lot of muscle. Muscle is much much leaner than fat is. So a skinny person who is lean from having a lot of muscle can sometimes lift more than a person with more fat. Plus being bigger is not always better, trust me i know 205 and starting center for my varsity highshool team.
Athletes shouldn't isolate. Bodybuilders and powerlifters do. Footballplayers focus on compound movements. Isolation moves doesn't give you a lot of fast-twitch-muscles. They give strength, but no muscle balance, coordination, strong nervous system etc. Athletes work on their movement strength - not their muscle strength, thats why their form is different from guys working out just to get ripped and bodybuilding guys. So yes their bench doesn't only work their chest muscles when benching :)
They are college aged young men. 18-22. All of them. You cant be older than 25 and play NCAA Division 1 football. (unless special circumstances arise).

Like, their forms are perfect. That pop at the end of a squat and that power clean form! Wow.

I remember this video using a biggie instrumental
Me too
Awesome programing, great exercise selection, great technique. FANTASTIC JOB
awesome, what impressed me most was the box squats, they have a smart s and c coach
Looks like they actually have some decent lifting in here. Some of the best power clean technique I've seen from a football team.
mad respect to that guy doin the power cleans at the beginning.
its not often you see a college football program lifting and everyone has great form... definitely like what i see in this vid
Wow Army is the first college football team I've seen doing there cleans properly good job
this particular one is called victory by puff daddy. its a sample of the song going the distance that was used in Rocky
God Bless The Armed forces..... Served Proudly Military and Army
I have always wanted to play for this team ever since I was 5.

nice job on the oly lifts! it is rare to see football players perform them correctly. great coaching.
@1:00 impressive form, impressive weight, no spotter....Awesome!
some pretty exceptional running mechanics too!
the first football team that can do prober power cleans!!!
I'm hella glad these guys are tasked with protecting our country. I think I'd wet myself if I was on the other side and these guys came sprinting forward.
Wow, great form! I'm pleasantly surprised!
Military football is beast. What they lack in recruiting they make up for in superior endurance.
very underrated team :) im an Oregon Ducks fan but this team has talent
Man it would be my dream as a British kid to play Quarterback at West Point. Its so hard for use international recruits to be seen.
One thing i admire about these guys is that they lift with perfect form. most colleges don't do that
yeah!!! nice videooo i wish to army a good season from mexico!
The title of the song is Victory by Notorious B.I.G.

Holy correct technique batman!!
what an inspiration!!! Thanks!
The chains provide progressive resistance to help with explosive power.
Great work
Army football players are soldiers who happen to be football players. Their priority is preparing to the defend the country.
that one dislike must be a navy fan!! GO ARMY!!
Im a navy fan, but much respect to these guys....besides thats an awesome gym right there.
BEAST MODE.
At 2:05, that guy doing the box jump way in the background.. is that from a sitting position? thats super awesome..
Andrew - please specify what is bad? And with your expertise, please teach us all how to do everything the Andrew way
2:04 in the background nice box jump
Awesome stuff, except for that one guy failing on the power cleans twice. Why did they put that in the video?
Because no matter how hard you train, there are still guys with extreme size and athleticism, outliers on the bell curve, who choose to go to BCS schools with fancy dorms and lots of pretty girls and in practice they work plenty hard.
I wanna know how many of these guys are gonna be infantry kicking down doors and shit they look like theyll be good at that job
Sarcasm? That is ideal form. The arch in his back and leg drive are both widely used to move heavy weight like in powerlifting.
@malchow39 its "victory- biggie" but its the instumental
Awesome
I am from NIU. We have a season opener against Army today. I Dont know who to cheer for. NIU or Army.
@drandomnessofitall thats actually proper bench press form, believe it or not.
2:00 is there a reason for doing that with the bar? I do that sometimes, I don't know why, but I've never seen anyone else do it.
today was the first day of spring football. im tired as fuck. but this shit is just motivating me ! haha
Well to be honest there was a period (just a guy lifting trying to make gains no professional) where I think i may have tweaked my back by over arching it during the bench. may have, so there is the possibility. although what really worries me is knees past toes when cleaning. not sure what to think of that...

they must be really good at hand to hand combat
SONG IS BIGGIE SMALLS VICTORY

Not sure if it is best an athlete to be using a belt when squating. I feel like it takes away from the core strength gained from squating.
0:45 YEAH PERFECT FORM
i watch this video before i lift every time.
LETS GO KNIGHTS
thanks u wiegt lifting coach....
is it safe to do squats if you scraped your knee?
oh jeez guys we got a personal trainer, he may be 17 years old and gets his info from the assistant jv coach but he knows his stuff listen to him.

@FamousPoloG Except for when they are benching. That arch man...take two of those and make a McDonalds sign out of them. Great way to get an injury and a few extra pounds on the bar.
How do you get on the team?
