I just learned that America used the Hawaiian Island for sugar plantations, and they did not care about the Hawaiian land nor the people. Some people wanted to save the Hawaiian people, but they were not able to.

Fascinating stuff. As a British tourist in Hawaii, what struck me was the state flag. A state within the avowedly republican USA, whose identity was defined by its rejection of Britain and the British crown, has a "union jack" on it -- just like many British dominions and former colonies. The former royal palace in Honolulu has pictures on its walls, not of the US Congress, but of the British House of Commons. There must be quite a story behind that, I thought.
And indeed there is! It is not difficult to understand why the traditional Royal family of Hawaii would look to the UK system of constitutional monarchy (appealing to both the irrational and rational sides of human nature) as a model for modernisation. And perhaps they were hoping for some kind of protection (without wishing to become part of the British Empire) from the goliath on their doorstep.
In the end, they suffered a classic land-grab orchestrated by a few American businessmen, who were happy to ignore the noble anti-imperialist principles of their nation in pursuit of money.
The next time you pick up can of "Dole" pineapple, remember this!

+Adrian Edwards Boy, you talk as if the British monarchy consists of angels. The British grabbed more land and exploited everything they could. Remember the East India Company? The inhumane treatment of East Indians in Fiji, like secretly raping women in the cane fields, impregnating them with white babies, denying abortion, and then blaming it all on the illiterate women for seducing the loyal British officers? How about Elizabeth not even bothering to apologize to Fiji Indians for the actions of her ancestors? I doubt that she is even aware of this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Platoon

The Union Jack is on our Flags because Kamehameha the Great was an ally to France, Britain, and US. He infused all three countries flags into one. The Union Jack From Britain, The Stripes from US and Red White and Blue from France.

Not true, The Hawaiian flag previous to 1845 differed only in the amount of stripes, which was formerly "seven", and also the arranging of the colors. Previous to 1845 the white stripe was at the bottom instead of the present position of at the top. The person accredited with the designing of the new flag, which was unfurled before the 1845 Legislative Assembly, was Captain Hunt of H.B.M.S. (Her British Majesty's Ship) Baselisk.
The Union Jack represented the friendly relationship between England and Hawaiʻi, and also noting that it was England and France that formally recognized the Hawaiian Kingdom as an Independent State and admitted her into the Family of Nations on November 28, 1843. Maybe you do not know the history of the flag? During Kamehameha I, every island aligned themselves with other countries. Hawaiʻi - Britain Maui - France Oʻahu - America Kauaʻi - Russia The religion at the time was also an influence on how the way the flag was made. King Kamehamehaʻs Akua was Kūkailiʻmoku, and his color was red. That is why there are red stripes on the flag. He was the God of government, politics, and if neither worked there would be war. Then there is Lono, his color is white. He was the God of agriculture, fertility, sports, and peace. The two blue stripes are the other Akua. The long blue stripe on the flag represents Kanaloa and the short blue stripe represents Kāne. Kanaloa was the God of the ocean, and the reason why his stipe is longer is because it signifies the wide expanse of the ocean that we are from. Kāne is the God of fresh water. If you notice, the stripe at the top of the flag is white and the bottom stripe is red. Right side up means Peace, while upside down means war. Interesting as it is, it plays in very well with the international flag meaning. Internationally speaking, when a flag is upside down, that means a country is in distress.

Also, you know why the Hawaiian flag is like that? Well it formed with the British flag because the Hawaiian And British were very close.

if there was a violation of international law, why then was the annexation forced upon the Kingdom of Havai'i?

Attempted Overthrow? That's like saying.. Attempted theft.. They mean the same. Hawaiian blood are inheritors of our home. Kamehameha managed the lands which belonged to the first settlers of our islands. Each island had its own kingdom. Many times we were alone with each other. To be Hawaiian is to be family. Our home belongs to us but is under a prolonged invasion.. Or illegal occupation.. Means the same to me.

While what happened was wrong i am curious, do we really think Hawaii would have not been colonized if not by the US the Russians? Japanese? Chinese? or one of the other European powers at the time.

Look at Union Jack on the flag of Kingdom of Hawaii. The Queen of Hawaii sought after help to the British shortly before American sugar planters kidnapped her. The British refused it. We sent three cruisers to Off Honolulu in vain.

that is exactly the way i use to think. Justifying the conquring of smaller nations just because "if i don't someone else will".
objectively speaking, at what strength must a nation be before it is not okay to simply conquer it.....
does that mean we should only have 20 countries then? as the vast majority of world military power rests in 20 countries at most, if even that. i'd say probably more like 10 if we are looking at nuclear power..... more like 5 if we are looking at significant nuclear power....
in modern day society once the "family of nation" was around and you got in, no country within it was allowed to conquer each other...
