Just wanted to comment and say that I'm pretty sure I've watched this video every year during Christmas t I've for the last 4 (maybe 5) years. Yours is the best explanation, is quick and to the point, and seems to be the only one that provides actual measurements. Thank you guys so much!
I am really glad I found this. My mother in law used to make this. She passed away a few years ago and we haven't found her recipe for it. I know once difference is she used graham crackers. It was delicious and addictive so it went by the name Christmas Crack.
Awesome!! I love this candy i discovered it last yr. but mine comes out tacky and it doesn't break apart so easy now i know that i have to watch and stir the toffee for exactly 4 mins!!! Thank you! Merry Christmas
I just made this for the first time today. great idea and I added a small bag of trail mix to the top of mine. It's cooling now and I can't wait to break into it.
Gave a thumbs up just for having the recipe in the description! My friend makes this all the time for Christmas gift giving, it never ends up in the gifts so I have yet to try it!
Be sure to use a quality sugar, over the Thanksgiving holiday I was trying to make a caramel sauce and is turned in to a sugar brick twice. So, that part didn't get done. I've made these sauces many times. That looks like a great recipe. I love your patience with the little ones.
I have watched a couple of videos of people making this, and the part with the butter and brown sugar, they were just putting the sticks of butter in and the brown sugar, and melting them together, which could burn!! Your way is so much smarter and easier, melting the butter first then adding the brown sugar! So I am gonna follow your way of making this!! Thank you for sharing and Merry Christmas and God Bless you and yours!!
I had this a lot when I was little one..called it toffee cracker with or without chocolate, put a big batch in a ice cream bucket and put in freezer and they would be some awesome cold perfect crackers cuts😋
Some folks even sprinkle chopped nuts on top of the chocolate. Or, switch out crushed candy canes or pretzels, etc, if you have a nut allergy. I like the idea of using white chocolate chips with crushed candy canes. Yum!
This recipe has been around more then 20 years. I have made it dozens of times with milk chocolate, dark chocolate, mint and butterscotch chips. Any flavor works and yiu can add chopped or slivered nuts to top from peanuts, almonds, pecans, cashews you nsme it. It has been passed down 4 generations in my family as a quick and easy snack to serve.
This stuff is awesome, but I use Club Crackers since saltines are now not as crispy as they used to be. I also add nuts. We call it pine bark for some reason. It is the combination of salty and sweet - just amazing!
Great video your kids are so cute,”it’s a puzzle”! I make this all the time for work. I keep coming back cause I forget the oven degree and time. 😃be well ❤️ N ☮️
We love this candy at our house! Just a side note, the chocolate won’t curdle with water, it seizes, and is then useless in this application, as you mention.
ART and BRI will...took it to a pot luck at church last night...everyone loved it....and there was none left to bring home ...bummer. ...oh well l plan on making it again this week.
*I've watched a LOT of "HOWTO: Toffee" videos lately. lol* *In each and every one, there's just two ingedients: butter & sugar.* *But yours is the first video I've seen that uses butter & brown sugar.* *Does using brown sugar instead of regular sugar make any sort of difference ...?* *Thank you!* 🙂👍🏻
I know your comment is four months old, but not sure if you got an answer to your question. Personally I prefer to use brown sugar, as it's colored with a bit of molasses. I think it tastes better. There's no difference in consistency etc. Hope that helps!
@@CaryMGVR You're welcome! Check the ingredient list on the brown sugar to make sure they used molasses... occasionally you'll find one that uses carmel coloring ..which isn't good. Have a good one!
I loved your video! I might have to try this one! I made my Oma's Christmas candy the other day. Will be sharing it on December 15th. ;) Thanks for sharing your special recipe! I'll let you know if I try it!
1 1/4 c flour, 1/2 c cornmeal, 1/4 t sugar,1/4 t salt, 1/2 t baking soda, 1/2 c butter, 1/2c cold water, 1 1/2 c shredded cheddar cheese, 3 T white vinegar, b pepper.. combine and let sit in fridge 1/2 -hour 1 until firm Roll as thin as possible, after dividing in three, each circle in 4. cut in squares, separate, bake at 375 for 10-12 min until crisp.Hope you don't mind me sharing this.
I made this and its awesome. I choose to call it Christmas Crackers. I don't want my girls having a history with anything crack. Lol. We love it. I also didn't need the thermometer. I did like you said. I just watched it to change colours.
I was trying to make this for my family for christmas but it ended up a disaster! 😭😭😭 the sugar separated from the butter and never combined... ended up throwing everything away. can somebody help me???
My caramel sauce doesnt thicken up. What am I doing wrong? I've made two batches this way. It's not a complete waste but the bottom is a little soft and not the crunch it should be. Help.
Take a water test, get a cup of cool water, let a drop of caramel sauce into the water, does it form a firm ball or dissolve, if it forms a ball it should be good to go.
Make sure you are using butter and not margarine. It has to be butter. Margarine has a lot of water in it and does not work in recipes that specifically say use butter.
I know this is 5 years old but I gotta comment how wholesome this video is. Your helpers are adorable

Love this candy, I usually sprinkle some chopped walnuts on top also. Just another added taste. God Bless and Merry Christmas.
Barbara Bell I just watched this video and had the same thought about adding nuts...and/or shredded coconut!!!🤭😮👍🏽
Thank you so much for including your precious helpers! Warms my heart.....that’s the way to parent! 🥰

My mom made these growing up. Always popular at parties. We called them heath bars. Sometimes used graham crackers, depending on desired taste.
Made these last year and just looked up your video to make them again this year. Thank you!!

Love this candy; make it every Christmas.

Thanks for reminding me of this super easy and delicious recipe! I'm adding it to my list for this year. 😊👍
I love this video! Thank you for sharing. I'll be making this this weekend!! You have a precious family!
Perfect amount of time for every step! Thanks. I had these once about 10 years ago and now I get to make them. They're the best.
Thank you for the recipe. I had this at a Christmas party but didn't know how to make it. I am going to make it now !

Excellent and easy to make!! Thank you guys!!!
I used to get this from a Mennonite lady I went to church with back in the day. Yum!
We make this every year too!! We call it toffee ❤️

I love this stuff so much, it's one of my favorite treats. yummy.
Thanks so much!!! I'll be taking this to my knitting Christmas party.
Fun!
i love this stuff
Bringing this to work tomorrow

I recommend using semisweet chocolate chips... not too sweet, not too bitter.
Brenna Marie
Shut yo ass up and eat

i feel like bitter would be a cute contrast though
I prefer milk chocolate. I want my desserts sweet! The salt already is the contrast, don't need to add bitter also!
Thanks for sharing!
My family makes this with pretzels, I am going to try this year w pretzel crisps, the flat ones. We call it crack too.
I forgot how long you keep it in the oven.
Thank you
Hi there....l am so looking forward to trying these.....they are already in the freezer. thanks for sharing.

Love your shirt!
I really like your shirt! It looks very comfy. Do you mind sharing where you got it from?
I got this at GAP a few years ago.

What is this recipe for! Corn meal caught my eye LOVE it
what is it
You didn’t say what this recipe was for?
You're a delight!
That guy down on 4th Street knows all about Christmas crack
💖
I tried and burned my sugar.... So high heat medium heat? And stir all the time during that 4 mins??? What colour really should it be...
i need more instructions on the caramelization too
i fooked mine up
What a sweet woman and a great recipe. Thx
Dont know if you'll see this. I make this every year. I forget do you spray the pan? Ty if anyone answers.
She doesn’t say nor does Bri’s write up say it’s sprayed.
@@suer8343 Ty for your reply.
Can we mix white milk and dark chocolate chips for fun color swirls?

How much brown sugar?
I was trying to make this for my family for christmas but it ended up a disaster! 😭😭😭 the sugar separated from the butter and never combined... ended up throwing everything away. can somebody help me???
That sounds
I have a co-worker that makes this stuff... SSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOO GGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDD!
It is over. the. top.
What did I do wrong? I made it as explained but the sugar didn't "melt," meaning it was still gritty and not smooth. ???🙁
When I made this it seems like the crackers were soft f what did I do wrong ??
We called it butter brickle bars :)
Thanks for sharing. Came out great accept what's the trick to keep the foil from sticking ? I had to peel little pieces that stuck and ripped off.
Cover your foil with butter or use a non stick spray. I use the butter and mine hasn't ever stuck to the foil.
My oven doesn't work can I do it w out oven?
My caramel sauce doesnt thicken up. What am I doing wrong? I've made two batches this way. It's not a complete waste but the bottom is a little soft and not the crunch it should be. Help.
Jennifer Maidi cook it longer in the pan. Your sugar probably wasn’t getting hot enough, for long enough.
It sounds like you didn’t cook your butter mixture long enough, it needs to cook for at least four minutes at a full rolling boil.
I love Christmas Crack! My friend Tonya made it every year but now she's 600 miles away and we don't get it and she wouldn't share her happy recipe
You should make some and mail it to her :)
I much brown sugar?
So for some reason my chocolate chips won’t spread out and I’ve put in the oven even longer and it won’t melt…help 😩
