I became familiar with this recipe from a friend in school. She was a "missionary kid". It was a goodie that was big in the mission field. I just loved it when she shared it with our home economics class. I don't put nuts on mine when I make it for us as we have nut allergies in the family but that certainly does sound good. My daughter walked in at the middle of the video and said "Momma she's making cracker candy... Would you please????" So I reckon I'm making it for us soon. 😂

This is a holiday must have in our house. We always called it Christmas Crack. My 17 yo daughter made a batch this week and put sprinkles on top and her older brothers ate the whole pan already. We’ve made variations over the years - club crackers, graham crackers with mini marshmallows on top., sometimes sprinkles, sometimes nuts. Always a hit!

That's a large part of why I watch these as well, only for my great-grandmother, who we lost last year. She spoke with a lot of the same speechways and accent, and always had something in the oven. I'm currently on the quest (which I suspect will be lifelong) of learning how to make pie from scratch, since she was famous for them and never shared any exact recipes except to say "put a little of this, and as much of that as feels right". So far I've only gotten pecan pie right, but considering I'm 21, I think it's a good start. I am so sorry you lost your mother, I'm glad these videos can give us comfort and remind us of loved ones. ♥

I’ve made this for years as well. I have made some changes tho. I use Club crackers instead of saltines. It gives it a more buttery flavor. I have also used cinnamon grahams and that is amazing! I also like to top mine with Health Bar chips or Butterfinger chips. My family can’t stop eating it! 😊

This was a winter thing with my grandparents....( Mom's side)...she used walnuts, and sometimes little marshmallows. Haven't eaten any of it since the '70s...my grandmother would make a metric boatload of it, I would take it home and enjoy it. As I recall, it didn't keep too well, but it was good while it lasted. My grandparents went shopping someplace where you could get chocolate slabs the size of patio blocks, and these had clearly been broken off a even bigger piece. She put chocolate slivers on it......I had not thought of this in forever. Great video...

Tipper, I made a batch of this cracker candy tonight. I think I cooked my butter & sugar mixture a little too long as it was really thick when I spread it on the crackers, and it hardened very quickly. I only made half of the recipe, so I probably should have cooked the mixture for less than the regular three minutes. Regardless, I spread the melted chocolate chips over the top and then, instead of pecans, I put Heath toffee bits (they were on the baking isle with the chocolate chips) on top. It is so good!! My husband had never had this before, and he loves it!! 😄
My momma used to make this for us, lost her back in 2018 to traumatic circumstances. She was always a great mom and stay at home wife, and was busy in the kitchen especially on holidays too. Glad I found this video of this recipe, because I have nothing left but memories of her.

Apparently, this is popular here in Oklahoma, but I just discovered the recipe a couple of years ago. It’s good for a quick candy. My favorite is my mother’s homemade fudge. The old fashioned type without marshmallow cream. I made it with her every Christmas. I have tried making it on my own, but it’s never quite right. She didn’t even like to cook, but she loved making candy at Christmas time.
I love the old fashion fudge too, the one that was on the back of the Hershey Cocoa can, but it's the hardest to make and it's so dang finicky. I always go exactly by the recipe, sometimes it turns out sometimes it don't. I've been making candy for years and years and was always told never make fudge if its' raining or about to rain or it wont set up. LOL well I made that fudge late one evening when it was pouring rain out and that fudge turned out perfect. Never know though the next batch may end up as spoon fudge.

Down in South Georgia this is called Christmas crack. It's also good to use graham crackers instead of saltines.I make it both ways and I put mini M&M'sand pretty Christmas sprinkles on mine .My grandchildren and my grown children all absolutely love it . Hi Tipper I've never seen these before, but my mama would take Ritz crackers and dip them into melted chocolate. Sometimes she would put peanut butter between the crackers before she dipped them. Her version on Reece's Piece's. Lol They didn't last long especially when the grandkids got big enough to eat them. Hope y'all have a great Thanksgiving.
Hey from Georgia! Love your channel! The girls' too! Our daughter graduated from Young Harris so we've spent lots of time in your neck of the woods. We used to stay in Hayesville and our daughter and her roommates went to New Hope church there. Anyway... I used to make this every summer for our daughter to take to church youth camp. I'd make huge batches,1 for the boys bus, 1 for the girls. She used to tell us that every year it never made it to camp. They'd start munching on it before they got to the first interstate exit! I also made extra for the leaders...theirs didn't make it much longer. It's so delicious and very economical to make. As a part-time preschool teacher married to a paramedic money was often tight but I found ways to still treat my family and others. God always made a way...still does!

My husband loves this candy. My favorite candy though has to be my Great Grandma Foust black walnut candy! Oh my goodness if you like black walnuts this recipe is an oldie and my mother made it for us every Christmas of my life. I haven’t made it since mom passed but plan on it this Christmas so me and my sisters can have a wonderful blessed memory.
Here is the recipe. It is not a creamy consistency like fudge but oh so delicious and the longer it sets the better the flavors meld together. My mom would make this about a week before Christmas and keep in a tin. Ingredients - 3 cups sugar, 1 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 tsp salt, 4 1/2 tablespoons butter, 2 tsp vanilla, 1 cup black walnuts. Add first 3 ingredients into a large sauce pan. Cook to hard boil stage 250-266 degrees or when strings like a hair when dripping from spoon. Once hard boil stage is reached, remove from heat and add last 3 ingredients, vanilla, butter and black walnuts…stir together well and put into a buttered dish. I usually double recipe and it makes a cookie sheet fill when doubled.
I just made this...I used milk chocolate...it's one of the best candy I have ever eaten!...easy, fun and gonna take it to work and tell the gang I bought it from a local shop!....thanks for sharing this will be a new treat for the holidays
Mama never made this. But I remember having it at family gatherings. So one of my aunts must have made it. I remember in the fall mama would let us help her make candy apples, caramel apples and popcorn balls. That was usually around Halloween. Then for Thanksgiving I remember she made pecan rolls. And yeast rolls and bread. She made these on all holidays and sometimes as a surprise. Then for Christmas we made divinity fudge. And we would make glass candy. I know it had Karo syrup, flavored oil, and food coloring. We called it glass candy because she would poor it out on a pan like you did the cracker candy. Then when it cooled and harden we would break it with spoons. Sometimes they would make a more fancy type folded like ribbons. And it had I guess confectioners sugar on it. We didn’t get a lot of that. Last but not least mama would always make a jam cake for Christmas. I sometimes buy one locally but it seems like most I’ve gotten are scorched. Not sure why. But it was a special cake and mama never scorched it. Thank you for bringing all of these memories back. I hope to continue some with our girls (granddaughters). Sure hope I can teach them a little if what mama knew.
Been making this for over 35 years, I use graham crackers segments and don't do chocolate. So yum. my daughter won a girl scout cookie contest once with them.

My mom made cracker candy ,except she would take cocoa and make syrup with it, add caramel candy melted with the cocoa. Spread over the crackers, bake for five minutes, then cool. After that she would spread thick cream or cool whip over the chocolate, layer that with coconut, then a layer of black walnuts over that, then she would drop molasses to hold the nuts down. After refrigerating for an hour, she would cut them into somewhat squares and man they were delicious ,as I'm sure yours are . Thanks for the memories, you're the best.

We started calling ours River Rat Trash We lived on a River here in Texas for 27 years, And that name stuck . I have tried many variations of this recipe. My grandma makes a bunch of simple homemade treats like this for the holidays! I think she makes one very similar to this! She also makes rocky road fudge and pralines, etc. We're living in the northwest in Oregon, she lives on her cow farm, so it's cool to see the similarities. I love that the close microphone made it sound like a crackling fire when you dropped the chips. I have also seen either Rae Drummond or Trisha Yearwood do an appetizer with club crackers, brown sugar, and bacon. There was a sweet version and a savory one. Easy and tasty. I tend to take fiddly recipes and just make them into a dip. We love things like jalapeno poppers, but they are fiddly. Chop it all up, bake, amazing! I was gonna make mini reuben sandwiches. Nope, chop it up, add cream cheese, into the slow cooker, even better! When in doubt, make it a dip or a tray bake, holiday time and clean up savers. Thanks for reminding me of this simple treat!

Funny story: my daughter and I always made the saltines toffee too and one year I had no parchment paper and my cookie sheet was old.the toffee stuck terribly so we set it on the porch for a bit to cool because it was a cold night. When we went back not a drop was left. The baking sheet clean as a whistle. Scrapped clean by a racoon.

I make this every year for Christmas! It’s my daughter’s favourite. She often asks me to make it during the year but I refuse. It’s a Christmas tradition and it shall remain a special once a year treat!
yum that looks so good and easy to make. Skor and Heath are my two favorite candy bars, so I know I would love the cracker candy. For the past 40 years, Kentucky Cream pull candy has been our Thanksgiving and Christmas candy making tradition. We only use pure heavy cream and sugar in ours, so it's really sweet and fattening, lol. We pour it outside on a buttered marble slab then pull it out until it's creamy white and oh so good. Cream candy is really tricky to make, but it's a skill I am so glad I learned all those years ago. We also make cinnamon hard tack candy, but we dont break ours up into those sharp pieces, we cut ours into little bite sizes.
Oh my mind is racing at the combinations I could do. I’m going to make this as one of my treat gifts for neighbors. White choc/peppermint, choc chips/coconut/nuts and just as you have it. It looks easy and delish!

We make this at Passover out of matzos because we cant have any leaven! I always do double toffee, lol! My go to Chanukah candy is Ritz cracker/ Jiff peanut butter sandwiches dipped in white almond bark and topped with raw sugar and maybe some sea salt!

I have NEVER had this candy. I've never seen this candy. Pretty neat how a saltine becomes candy. My husband loves saltines he'd like this as well I'm sure. Thank you for sharing. 😊

Down in South Georgia this is called Christmas crack. It's also good to use graham crackers instead of saltines.I make it both ways and I put mini M&M'sand pretty Christmas sprinkles on mine .My grandchildren and my grown children all absolutely love it . Hi Tipper I've never seen these before, but my mama would take Ritz crackers and dip them into melted chocolate. Sometimes she would put peanut butter between the crackers before she dipped them. Her version on Reece's Piece's. Lol They didn't last long especially when the grandkids got big enough to eat them. Hope y'all have a great Thanksgiving.

Hey from Georgia! Love your channel! The girls' too! Our daughter graduated from Young Harris so we've spent lots of time in your neck of the woods. We used to stay in Hayesville and our daughter and her roommates went to New Hope church there. Anyway... I used to make this every summer for our daughter to take to church youth camp. I'd make huge batches,1 for the boys bus, 1 for the girls. She used to tell us that every year it never made it to camp. They'd start munching on it before they got to the first interstate exit! I also made extra for the leaders...theirs didn't make it much longer. It's so delicious and very economical to make. As a part-time preschool teacher married to a paramedic money was often tight but I found ways to still treat my family and others. God always made a way...still does!

Skor and Heath candy bars have always been my favorite. I am making this cracker candy for Christmas. It looks delicious!🎄 You could also add Christmas sprinkles on top, too.
My husband loves this candy. My favorite candy though has to be my Great Grandma Foust black walnut candy! Oh my goodness if you like black walnuts this recipe is an oldie and my mother made it for us every Christmas of my life. I haven’t made it since mom passed but plan on it this Christmas so me and my sisters can have a wonderful blessed memory.

Love black walnuts. Where do you live I'll come by and help you eat it to keep you from gaining weight or foundering.
Here is the recipe. It is not a creamy consistency like fudge but oh so delicious and the longer it sets the better the flavors meld together. My mom would make this about a week before Christmas and keep in a tin.
Ingredients - 3 cups sugar, 1 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 tsp salt, 4 1/2 tablespoons butter, 2 tsp vanilla, 1 cup black walnuts.
Add first 3 ingredients into a large sauce pan. Cook to hard boil stage 250-266 degrees or when strings like a hair when dripping from spoon. Once hard boil stage is reached, remove from heat and add last 3 ingredients, vanilla, butter and black walnuts…stir together well and put into a buttered dish. I usually double recipe and it makes a cookie sheet fill when doubled.

I just made this...I used milk chocolate...it's one of the best candy I have ever eaten!...easy, fun and gonna take it to work and tell the gang I bought it from a local shop!....thanks for sharing this will be a new treat for the holidays

Mama never made this. But I remember having it at family gatherings. So one of my aunts must have made it. I remember in the fall mama would let us help her make candy apples, caramel apples and popcorn balls. That was usually around Halloween. Then for Thanksgiving I remember she made pecan rolls. And yeast rolls and bread. She made these on all holidays and sometimes as a surprise. Then for Christmas we made divinity fudge. And we would make glass candy. I know it had Karo syrup, flavored oil, and food coloring. We called it glass candy because she would poor it out on a pan like you did the cracker candy. Then when it cooled and harden we would break it with spoons. Sometimes they would make a more fancy type folded like ribbons. And it had I guess confectioners sugar on it. We didn’t get a lot of that. Last but not least mama would always make a jam cake for Christmas. I sometimes buy one locally but it seems like most I’ve gotten are scorched. Not sure why. But it was a special cake and mama never scorched it. Thank you for bringing all of these memories back. I hope to continue some with our girls (granddaughters). Sure hope I can teach them a little if what mama knew.

Been making this for over 35 years, I use graham crackers segments and don't do chocolate. So yum. my daughter won a girl scout cookie contest once with them.

My mom made cracker candy ,except she would take cocoa and make syrup with it, add caramel candy melted with the cocoa. Spread over the crackers, bake for five minutes, then cool. After that she would spread thick cream or cool whip over the chocolate, layer that with coconut, then a layer of black walnuts over that, then she would drop molasses to hold the nuts down. After refrigerating for an hour, she would cut them into somewhat squares and man they were delicious ,as I'm sure yours are . Thanks for the memories, you're the best.

We lived on a River here in Texas for 27 years,

My grandma makes a bunch of simple homemade treats like this for the holidays! I think she makes one very similar to this! She also makes rocky road fudge and pralines, etc. We're living in the northwest in Oregon, she lives on her cow farm, so it's cool to see the similarities. I can see how these could taste like the Twix candy bars. Edit: I am SOOO making this tonight for my boyfriend and I !! It will be the perfect movie watching snack!

I love that the close microphone made it sound like a crackling fire when you dropped the chips. I have also seen either Rae Drummond or Trisha Yearwood do an appetizer with club crackers, brown sugar, and bacon. There was a sweet version and a savory one. Easy and tasty. I tend to take fiddly recipes and just make them into a dip. We love things like jalapeno poppers, but they are fiddly. Chop it all up, bake, amazing! I was gonna make mini reuben sandwiches. Nope, chop it up, add cream cheese, into the slow cooker, even better! When in doubt, make it a dip or a tray bake, holiday time and clean up savers. Thanks for reminding me of this simple treat!

I've made it with pecans, one batch I just sprinkled sea salt on top and one I put coconut on...all were delish!!!

I had never heard of this until a few years ago when a lady I took care of made it. She gave me the recipe and I've been making it at Christmas time ever since. She passed away not long ago but I'll always remember her when I make this candy. I just finished making a batch, I put pecans on half and leave the other half plain. This is the dessert we take to all parties and potlucks. We started using graham crackers a few years back and we like it a lot more that way!

Funny story: my daughter and I always made the saltines toffee too and one year I had no parchment paper and my cookie sheet was old.the toffee stuck terribly so we set it on the porch for a bit to cool because it was a cold night. When we went back not a drop was left. The baking sheet clean as a whistle. Scrapped clean by a racoon.

I make this every year for Christmas! It’s my daughter’s favourite. She often asks me to make it during the year but I refuse. It’s a Christmas tradition and it shall remain a special once a year treat!
A lady at work once brought in crackers with butter and garlic. They were great
yum that looks so good and easy to make. Skor and Heath are my two favorite candy bars, so I know I would love the cracker candy. For the past 40 years, Kentucky Cream pull candy has been our Thanksgiving and Christmas candy making tradition. We only use pure heavy cream and sugar in ours, so it's really sweet and fattening, lol. We pour it outside on a buttered marble slab then pull it out until it's creamy white and oh so good. Cream candy is really tricky to make, but it's a skill I am so glad I learned all those years ago. We also make cinnamon hard tack candy, but we dont break ours up into those sharp pieces, we cut ours into little bite sizes.

When I moved up North, I forgot a lot of delicious Southern treats. I’m not doing much cooking these days, I think I can handle a couple of treats like the cracker candies and cheese straws this year! Very Nice!!!! Yes, here in Florida... we call that "Candy Bark" It's endless what you can do with and adding extras... I like adding dried cranberries to the dark chocolate... My mom used to make this back in the 1960s. She'd also bake a sheet of cookie dough or short bread and pour the topping on it.
We make this at Passover out of matzos because we cant have any leaven! I always do double toffee, lol! My go to Chanukah candy is Ritz cracker/ Jiff peanut butter sandwiches dipped in white almond bark and topped with raw sugar and maybe some sea salt!
Oh yummy. I needed this recipe for my neighbor. She home schools her two and loves cooking projects. This will be fin for kids to help make. Loved it.
