The DARK SIDE of Showtime (What the NBA Doesn't Want You to Know) [Part III]

- The Showtime Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most historic teams in Basketball. Led by NBA Royalty Magic Johnson, the Lakers of the 80's won 5 championships and alongside Larry Bird and the Boston Celtics dominated an entire decade of basketball... however, while the accolades, and accomplishments of Magic Johnson and the 80's Lakers are known by NBA fans across the globe.. what about the other side of the Showtime Lakers? The Darker side that the NBA doesn't want you to know of, or remember?
In a world obsessed with alcohol, drugs and rampant promiscuity, AC Green was truly amazing and clearly had the protection of his God!
How could anyone not respect that kind of moral tenacity!!
God*. His God is ur God too. He’s God of ALL people on Earth.
Or he laughs at the fact he won a bet that hard and that big

Mad props to AC Green. I can only imagine the emotional intelligence and willpower required to resist all that temptation. Respect! 💯
It’s called CONVICTION!
Yes, my hat is totally off to Mr. Green, it takes a special human being to achieve what he did. He was the opposite of Magic Johnson who just gave in to temptation just way too easy. Also, Green was a great basketball player too, his Ironman status shows that, plus he was a helluva rebounder and defender. To hear that about James Worthy though shocks me and is disappointing.
It's not emotional intelligence...it's a spiritual thing
@@PhoenixAscending Amen!!
No will power can keep you from that kind of temptation, only the power, of God!! Mad respect to AC!

I miss the daily stuff sucks he can’t do that anymore

A.C. Green has my total respect both on and off the court! After he left the Lakers, he came back to contribute to the Lakers 2000 World Championship.
As a rockets fan I know how bad the drug issues were in the 80’s. The team that made the nba finials in 1986 fell apart due to drug suspension.
Yeah, the 1986 Rockets were the business. As a Lakers fan, I remember that team very well. Losing John Lucas during the '86 playoff run and later Lewis Lloyd and Mitchell Wiggins was a bit too much.
Eevee 08 yes I recall that as a Spurs fan... Wiggins n Lloyd seemed like an upcoming dominating backcourt... I was pulling for you guys in ‘81 and ‘86.. I’ve always believed that Akeem O was the best player in NBA not Jordan... then D-Rob then Jordan... 😊 I always thank God for letting me see the greatest basketball decade-the ‘80’s I entered it as a twelve year old kid..
@@ramiroperez7180 did u say dat Hakeem is better than jordan and Robinson they not even in the goat conversation
JP The Great 18 they can be but I don’t think they are better than MJ though.
Do you think John Lucas could've made a difference in the Finals?
Another amazing fact about AC Green's ironman record: He reportedly had a case of chronic hiccups that only allowed him up to 2 hours of sleep per night. His hiccups disappeared only when he was working out, practicing, or playing, but would return after he was done with his physical activity.
Imagine if there was social media back then. Oh man... The scandals and memes are gonna be hilarious.
They just hide it better like they do now. You really think the top players still aren't doing this?

AC loved the Lord more than seeking to satisfy his flesh. By having such strong convictions, he avoided disease, unwanted pregnancies that resulted in child support ( a major source of athletes going broke within five years of retirement) , baby momma drama, and scandal.
Broke the retched cycle of 70% of us being born out of wedlock.
A great and strong man of faith and conviction.
Magic, whom I admire as a player, chose to mock AC and take a different path.

I saw a documentary about him on HBO yesterday. He really went through a lot racially. One of his coaches had to write the school board a letter voicing his concerns about how bad Kareem was treated by his white peers.
its just who these people are, jealous, sadistic hypocrites who has the complexion for the protection, thats why they harass and harangue blackpeople so much, its how they feel superior which is really cowardice.
Same sht happened to me and I'm like 30 years younger. Got called the n word by my best friend. Got called the n word dam near everyday. I still to this day feel uncomfortable in majority white groups, makes it hard to work in corporate. But such is life
This series is so amazing bro. At first I was like yo why is he switching things up, I liked the old style, but the script writing, research, content and editing of these vids is unbelievable. Amazing work bro, seriously amazing.

ac green is a true legend
A.C. Green came out the better end of all that Showtime. To my knowledge, no one has passed his Ironman record of consecutive games played. G-d is great and greatly to be praised!
It should be pointed out that Kareem had tremendous respect for his college coach, who was white and one of the greatest coaches of all-time, John Wooden. You can't blame Kareem for distrusting his high school coach after the white coach used a racial slur. Kareem was a reserve individual so it's not surprising he didn't trust the media who were not always fair to say the least. It has been good to see Kareem open up and share his basketball knowledge, views, and sense of humor in his post bball career.
Ironically, Kareem's first team was Milwaukee. Milwaukee is the most RACIST, dysfunctional, segregated, city north of the mason dixon line. Not surprising that Kareem refused to continue playing there.

I was a big Lakers fan in the 80s. I even went to game 7 of the Finals against the Pistons - my first NBA game I attended. I went to LA from NY BEFORE game 6 (went to a Supercross race before it) EXPECTING them to win allowing me to witness the championship game. Imagine my stress watching from my hotel room the closing minute when the Lakers were DOWN, then Laimbeer "fouled" Kareem and he hit both his throws giving them the win. Scored a 4th row ticket for $600. Anyway, interesting video. Good job.
I appreciate and thank God for AC Green and how he represented Christ, much respect!

6:28 A.C. Green had bars
real shit he did
Wow! Just finished #3. I was so shocked about most of this stuff, rarely missing a game since Elgin Baylor (my favorite player) was a rookie in 1958, and all the way through Showtime and beyond. I knew little of the behind-the-scenes stuff. What an eye-opener. I watched the Lakers, and read about the Lakers for decades, and only knew a few of these things. The last few years (I'm going on 74) I've drifted from the Lakers and prefer to watch developing teams grow on League Pass. Now I'm wondering when, or if, they'll resume play with this COVID19 thing going around. Kudos to A.C. Green for sticking to his beliefs and not being influenced by his peers; that's a rare thing. He came to where I worked a few years ago - what a nice guy, #45.
A.C. Green: Smartest man in the NBA, possibly the planet.
Point of correction. Showtime was not at Staples Center which opened in 1999. Showtime was part and parcel of the Forum in Inglewood from 1980-1991 under Magic Johnson. Staples was Kobe's, Shaq's, and now Lebron's and AD's workplace.
A.c green stands on his principles and I respect that …. Because nothing is ever as it seems when it’s so together
Great video! Those were crazy times. I remember hearing John Salley in an interview talk about the legendary parties at Magic Johnson's place. And he said Johnson used to get on a microphone and scream" if everybody in this place isn't getting busy by the time this song ends they need to get the hell out!" But honestly, that's how professional sports was at that time. Ever see the movie" North Dallas Forty"? Professional football, baseball, basketball, and hockey were wild fests! Still are today.
No wonder he contracted HIV, also Kareem said he was screwing everyone and everybody in LA and Cali. Smh Also, you mean American professional sports are wild sex, drug fests! I'm sure they aren't like this over in Europe although they probably would like to be. Lol
Yes the return of the best basketball series on RUclips rn

@@bgiovannicOkayy?? In LA, all kinds of shady characters were part of the scene at the forum. Do you think everybody made their millions in real-Estate??
A.C. knew how to fight peer pressure
The 90's Bulls would be a great topic for a series...
The 80's would be the cocaine chronicles
Yes; the 1992 book The Jordan Rules is full of eyebrow-raising anecdotes about the team’s dynamics. Jordan hated almost everyone, but loved Paxson for always getting the ball to him; Pippen imitated MJ to a tee, even buying the same sportscars. Too many other things to mention. And this book only covered up to 1991, not the Rodman era.
Or, how about the Detroit Pistons? I'd love to find out if the rumors of BOUNTY PAYMENTS for knocking "enemy" players outta games are true? And if not, what really DID put such a bug up their ass....
The last dance was incredible
So much animosity in the league. Without knowing much, from the outside looking in, I have always wondered if Jordan's father was setup.
That's a wrap on the Dark Side of Showtime! Thanks a bunch for all of the support on this first series! Lots more to come.

Tnk4me hmmm never looked at it from that perspective.. though I can’t blame him.. the times were racially charged... the country as a whole was trying to find, in a sense, its new identity.. Young Whites, Afro-Americans and even us Mexicans or Chicanos were all bucking the “establishment” by breaching the barriers that were oppressing the generation before them.. it’s just sad that one of my favorite NBA players, Kareem, is stuck in a religion that teaches hate rather love and forgiveness... unforgiveness is the cancer that is eating him up...Malcolm X saw the hypocrisy in the Nation of Islam and was killed because he was going to reveal the truth of the matter...

Love this new style of content. I really appreciate the hard work you put into this series. I would love to see a series on the Portland "Jail Blazers".
One time after a Lakers Hawks game at the Forum in 1984, I waited at the back ramp behind the Forum to get autographs from both teams. Several Lakers and Hawks would walk out and give those autographs. The players were very polite. Worthy, Jamaal Wilkes, Scott etc. I remember getting the autographs of Dominique Wilkins, Tree Rollins, Doc Rivers etc. When Rambis came out, I gave him my wallet so he could have something firm to write on while signing his autograph. When he was done, Rambis put my wallet in his jacket pocket and started walking away with it. I remember saying HEY! He turned around with the slighest of grins, and gave me my wallet back. Will never forget it. I remember thinking that Kevin Willis was one of the biggest human beings I had ever seen in person. I did not get Magic's autograph, because he never came out that back entrance. I noticed there was a Mercedes Benz parked against the wall down in the tunnel at some point. I saw Kareem coming from the depths of the Forum walking towards me, but he stopped at the Mercedes. I remember asking him from a distance, if I could get his autograph. I remember him politely saying that he was in a hurry and had to be somewhere, and he declined my request. He got in his Mercedes and drove off into the night. Did he decline because I was white? Who knows, but Kareem was very cordial. I can just imagine the hurt he felt when he was younger when his friend and coach called him those names. Just a little memory I wanted to share about the Showtime Lakers.
