    Beautiful video- not only did Showtime entertain me as a kid in Southern California, but it helped build the foundations to be an unselfish and encouraging person. Magic (and everyone else here!) was the best possible childhood hero anybody could ever ask for.

    This team had the greatest chemistry of any team ever. Big Man in the middle with the skyhook was unstoppable. Magic was the leader and the best passer that ever played the game, and he loved his teammates. Worthy is in the HOF because he could take those great long strides and beat his man, or fly down the sidelines and dunk, and he also played great defense. Jerry West was a perfect GM. And then all the others,
    from Byron Scott to Kurt Rambis, to Michael Cooper to Jamaal Wilkes to AC Green....they all found the role that they could do to most help the team, and they were not jealous of the Big Three gettin the accolades. Great group of men who loved each other.

    I always thought, and the more that time passes, I think that this era was when the NBA, throughout its illustrious history, reached its peak/crescendo! I can honestly say that I do not believe that NBA basketball was better prior to this era, or after this era… And this was the team that undeniably represented that

    Arguably the GOAT 10 year run in NBA history. 8 NBA Finals appearances and 5 NBA Titles. 9 Division titles, Five 60 win seasons, avg record of 59-23, avg Win% of .721. The only time they didn't win their division was when Magic got hurt and missed half the season. In the first half of the decade they competed against Dr. J., Moses Malone, Earl Monroe, Wes Unseld, Elvin Hayes, Bob Lanier, Artis Gilmore, George Gervin, David Thompson, Dennis Johnson, Gus Williams, Jack Sikma, Sidney Moncrief, Dan Issel, Andrew Toney, Bobby Jones and so many others. In the second half of the run they competed against Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, Isiah Thomas, Dominique Wilkins, Charles Barkley, Dennis Rodman, Scottie Pippen, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, John Stockton and so many others. They beat great teams in the Finals like Bird's Celtics, Isiah's Pistons and Dr. J's 76ers.

    Had a job in college in ‘84 working security at concerts and sporting events. Had a double-header in November starting with USC vs Notre Dame in the coliseum then walking over to the Sports Arena for Lakers/Clippers game. I got paid to the patrol the photographers area. Only time I got to see Showtime was in the cheap seats so being right down on the court is a memory I’ll always cherish.

  • @mphineas1

    There were basically two teams. The Nixon-Wilkes version and the Worthy-Scott version. McAdoo played on both, playing on the'82 and '85 teams. The guy missing here is Nixon, without whom they don't win in '80 and '82. In fact, without Nixon they can't trade for Byron Scott. That trade of course cost the Lakers the '84 title, they beat Boston if Nixon is on that team. But the trade-off was the development of Scott, a rookie in '84 but a catalyst of the '85, '87 and '88 teams. Not sure why Kupchak and Rambis are there. Of course if Kupchak doesn't tear his knee up in '82 they may have run the table in the early 80's, but he was a shell of his former self. Rambis was a plumber. I'd rather see Mychal Thompson, who's defense on Kevin McHale guaranteed the '87 title.

    • @davanmani556
      @davanmani556 Год назад

      Rambo was a Westhead guy. Pat didn’t like him. He preferred Kupchak and Mark Landsberger but besides Mitch’s knee, Mark couldn’t handle small forwards like a Bernard King. Pat gave Kurt a hard time with clothes and all. It came about with the McHale take down. Kurt wasn’t going to fight him and Pat was steamed. It cost the ‘84 Finals. But teammates really bonded over Kurt because of how he had to fight to play and was willing to cover anyone from beef guys and fineness guys.

      Not having Norm Nixon isn't the reason the Lakers lost in 84. Late game mistakes and turnovers in games 2 and 4 was the reason they lost.

    • @mphineas1
      @mphineas1 3 месяца назад

      @@felixjones1375 lol Nixon was an expert ballhandler and a better point guard than anyone the Celtics had in their backcourt. He had a fantastic year for the Clippers and with him the 84 Finals aren't even close.

    Many other good players contributed to those "Showtime" Laker teams from 1980- 89. I hope all of these players, and coaches, (if still alive) were invited to attend: Spencer Haywood, Jim Chones, Norm Nixon, Jamaal Wilkes, Jim Brewer, Mark Landsberger, Tony Campbell, Bill Bertka, Randy Pfund, Billy Thompson, Mike Smrek, Milt Wagner, Adrian Branch, Wes Mathews, Dave Wohl, Mike McGee, Larry Spriggs, Mitch Kupchak, Swen Nater, Dwight Jones, Clay Johnson, Steve Mix, Maurice Lucas, Mike Thibault, Eddie Jordan, Brad Holland, Paul Westhead, Marty Byrnes, Butch Lee, Pétur Guðmundsson, David Rivers, Jeff Lamp and Mark McNamara. I saw that Gary Vitti, Ronnie Lester and Chuck Nevitt (all 7 foot 5 of him) were there. R.I.P. to Bill Sharman, Orlando Woolridge and Jack McKinney.

    Lakers was the most stacked team of the 80s in the weaker conference.
    I'd still pick Bird over Magic.
    Switch Parish with Kareem and Bird would have won more than Magic.
    Kareem and Worthy was much better than Parish and McHale.
    B. Scott better than Ainge.
    Cooper better defender than D. Johnson.
    Wilkes was a sleeping 20pt scorer. Then Mcadoo a 2x scoring champion and former mvp coming off the bench.
