I can’t agree with you emphatically enough. If you cover a well-known song, you’ve gotta do it better, or creatively create an interpretation so creative that your gob-smacked fans cannot help but say “worth it !!”

This is one of the best covers that I've ever heard! The opening grooves at the beginning of this jam are funky as hell! The opening of the drum beats grooves into the nasty bass licks then slides into the wicked guitar riffs! That shit is funky! The vocals are also perfect for the style and sound of this groove! This song is youthful and timeless. It's creative and ahead of its time. It has elements of funk, punk, new wave, and rock. This song captured the essence of the times. It also captures the brilliance and genius of DEVO!
@@davidrichard3752 We are in the Allegheny Mountains. Pretty sure we all have one leg longer than the other from steep land. We love it for some strange reason.
just heard Jerry Casale tell the story that this song was written around the guitar riff that comes in last. With Alan playing kind of a backwards drum beat. So Jerry decided to play a backwards reggae line, starting on the 2, not the 1. Mark originally sang lyrics to a different song. But on the suggestion of Bob 2 tried the lyrics of satisfaction. And there it was.
Growing up, I lived in an area without cable television. This and Once In A Lifetime were the first music videos I ever saw when Friday Night Videos was on the air. It made me wonder if everyone in the music biz was epileptic.

I might not agree with your assessment of the artistic merits of this version vs the original, but it is a top flight cover. So much so that Jagger said it was the best cover of Satisfaction he ever heard.
I can remember the first time I saw this, which was also the first time I'd heard this or even heard of Devo most likely. It was a late night music show like Don Kirchner or Midnight Special or something. The rest of the family were asleep thankfully. I recall being a little. ..is scared the right word? Nervous? It was off putting for me with how much I liked it. I was a 70's stoner kid, Zeppelin, Floyd, (70's) Aerosmith. I liked a certain sound, look and swagger and this just exploded out of the TV and was so amazing! I still like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath etc but after this I really expanded what i listened to and often just took a chance on a new band. I got a lot of crap from other kids for listening to new wave and punk and frankly, anything that was really good! But I feel sorry for the people who can't open their mind a little and take some chances because they missed out on a lot of amazing music and art.
@jiece0marlow Spaz Attack is the dudes name. And, speaking of THAT, it so happens that he did also perform, as a back up dancer, on a Bowie concert tuor ( Glass Spider '87 ) .
Since Toni Basil choreographed the Glass Spider tour, do you think she had a hand in Spazz's dance here? If you weren't there, in the late 70s, Spazz would dance like this in clubs. Basil did do a few Devo videos. Coincidence? ruclips.net/video/jwzxHTD-n-M/видео.html
Devo were always a pissa! Especially this cover of The Stones which ironically they sound even more stoned than The Stones 😂😂😂😂😂😂 They sound like they were on fucking qualudes while cutting this track. Lmao 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Nevertheless I L❤VE this version of Satisfaction! Love how they used it in the movie CASINO too! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😎😎😎😎😎
Weren't these teenage groups just puppets? As they sold few discos, who bought their expensive equipment and produced them? So, Who was their master of puppets?
ok a few things: chuck statlers cast of goons in this vid. the punk guy[if still living] needs to see an orthopod twice mnthly today. he is the real deal. oh yea imagine eno +conny plank and these goons in the studio 1970's, wowser the drugs.
+kris s: That front flip onto his back is also known in professional wrestling as a somersault senton. The standard senton is a backsplash (jump so you land face up with your back hitting your opponent). Gorilla Monsoon (RIP) called it a "running front flip" during the match where the Cobra (George Takano in a mask) defeated Black Tiger (Marc "Rollerball" Rocco in a mask) for the vacant New Japan WWF Junior Heavyweight Title, "WWF Prime Time Wrestling," Madison Square Garden, New York, NY, February 19, 1985 (taped December 28, 1984). The move would not be called by its proper name until the 1990s.
it was the 70s. Everyone did everything, and it was weirder to be straight than high. It wasn't hat big a deal. We were still learning about it, and had no idea what the longterm effects were gonna be. And drugs were "cleaner" then. That said, the guys in DEVO were as colorful as they were without drugs. They'd have been we weird and incredibly creative either way.
As far as I'm concerned, this is how you do a cover.
Correct - I get nothing but satisfaction watching this lunacy.
