I prefer this version miles over the album version. It's weird, unsettling and goofy at the same time. I've always loved how they changed the lyrics from the Johnny Rivers version to be a lot more sarcastic.
props to DEVO for stealing the sounds that my brain produces whenever im in a quiet room and putting it at the beginning of this 1975 De-Evolution film.
Possibly the greatest thing ever put on film! Sad we never ot this version on an album..So better ( and just plain weirder ) than the one on Duty now for the future
Its a shame when artists become mainstream. I remember seeing DEVO in their early days somewhere and everyone was like what the hell is this? Me being as weird as I am replied, this is freakin' the best and most original band I have ever seen.
Video was posted 13 years ago but all the comments are from the last year. Are we in the midst of a Devo renaissance?? Or is the algorithm just being weird? Maybe both.
I never knew that DEVO were this good and peaking in 74-75, hidden away in rust belt Ohio, pissing everybody off. If only they had RUclips and Soundcloud to fuck around on back in the mid 70s. The production is great, better than the experimenters in the mid 70s Northern British rust belt that get more credit.
Love how they think nothing of driving a huge 70s beat up blue clunker car in a Rock music video (film) and casually park it in front of a fire hydrant. I remember first seeing this then music video randomly come on cable tv very late at night (probably on 120 minutes) while I was in college 30+ years ago. At the time I thought it was the weirdest thing that I ever saw on Tv and I think it still is! I love DEVOs version of this song and this music film now, although back then it kinda scared the heck out of me lol!
Waited all week to see DEVO as musical guests on Fridays...I was 9 years old.....last minute my Mom had me escort her as she hunted my sister down.....hanging out with thrashy kids .....I was pissed .....I ended up being the crazy fucking doper..... love DEVO always. Patrick Disaster

Parking right in front of the fire hydrant, man these guys were rebels.
Remember when undercovers drove the lowest of all Chevrolets, the Biscayne?
🤣

This version is a little better than the album version
Yes
I am a big Devo fan but I certainly wouldn’t go so far as to say this is the best thing ever put on film .
Just love the analog synths.
Always loved this version and the video.
Been my favourite music video since 1979...Love Devo in this era.
My fav Devo song.
Pre-Warner Bros. Devo was the best.

Shame but at the same time good or well better for them, being able to get paid more for your art
I saw them in a little theater in Rochester Ny it was 1980.

Exactly. Can't find it anywhere
A lot of their early demos are on streaming, but not this one.

they are so excellent, thank you god i got to see them.

Much better than the 1979 version. Much more weird and experimental
BANGER. Later live versions a little faster, also great.

DEVO rocks! End of subject. Between then and the Talking Heads, it is how I grew up.

You can probably search up 1970s clear plastic masks, I got 12 for 47 bucks including shipping.
