It’s super neat that it plays DVDs, Sony could have easily dropped support for them and focused on streaming services, but they didn’t. Very nice move on Sony’s part for keeping part of history alive.

It’s cool that it plays DVDs. I thought they would’ve dropped DVD support but I guess not. I still have some old DVDs so it’s nice to have that feature.
Unfortunately it is not region free.
Not only is it nice that the PS5 has the ability to play DVDs, but buying a game console at $500-$600 is way more cost effective than buying a blu-ray player or dvd player alone for $100- $300 as you have multiple options on the PS5 including playing dvds, blu-rays, games, streaming apps, socialization with your friends/family on the PSN, and whatever else they add in the years later on in the PS5's Life. Personally, I'm waiting on a PS5 LIMITED EDITION CONSOLE to get released before I purchase my 1st PS5 CONSOLE to get more value for my $$$.
Haven't tried a DVD yet most of my stuff is Blu Ray but I have some DVDs too so that's good they'll work

@@billyidolrockstar522 CDs require a different laser than DVDs/BDs, you can only pack so much into a single drive. It's true it's backwards compatible but I'm guessing Sony didn't bother to implement it for CDs, as they're really only used for music now and quite frankly you really shouldn't be using regular CDs for music unless you're using something like a SACDs, so the market isn't really there.

PS5 has 4K Blu-ray player it should be able to play all kinds of Blu-ray and DVD discs from different regions but it can't play different region DVDs? Apparently it can't play different region Blu-ray discs either UNLESS it's a PS4 or a PS5 game disc or a 4K UHD Blu-ray disc.
Region coding is the stupidest human invention ever.

My screen looks zoomed in when playing dvds. I've tried my tv settings and ps5 settings and can't get it to fit the screen right.
As soon as I put in a dvd and hit play my screen goes out??!!
Is the output smooth cuz on my 4k monitor it's kind of sluggish, audio is fine just feels laggy

How were you able to change the DVD region on your PS5? I'm not given that option. I get an error message, stating that my DVD is not supported in my region.

@@manfriend2009 It isn't possible on the Japanese version of the PS5, well, at least at the time of my post. I don't think we got a firmware update to allow that possibility, thought I don't think firmware will fix this issue. I've already given up on it. My blu-rays and streaming services work, so the DVDs are a very minor issue at this point. Still would have been nice, but it's too late to cry over that now.
if you reset your PS5 data do you get the Region change charges back?
What would happen if you put a music CD inside? Would it play the songs? I don't think I ever tested doing this on my previous devices.

The region number is informative. Tried just now tonight - a tv remote controls the player as it does youtube as well btw.

I didn’t think my ps5 played dvds. I don’t have it standing upright so when I put the disk in like normal it is technically upside down 😂😂😂 so I put it in upside down and it worked.
Playing in that small box is just fine?
Thats the biggest reason i convinced my wife to get a ps5

If the dvd you put is region 0, the player should not show this message. Region 0 means all region.

I was saying to myself that I hope PS5 won't drop DVD's because that would mean that I have to either dispose all my DVD movies or sell them, and purchase the movies on Blu-ray or Digital if it is not on any type of streaming service.

Haha I feel so stupid I thought my ps4 discs and dvd discs weren’t compatible… turns out the ps5 accepts discs both ways and I put them backwards. I did not think the disc try would accept discs backwards sense every other device I have used wouldent axcept them backwards. I feel so silly

i dont get why the ps5 still use dvds? nobody has crt anymore so why world consoles keep dvds if no one has crt anymore cause most people have 1080p tvs and 4k tvs
