ok, so I am an american living in Israel. Yishai Ribo (pronounced - Yeeshai Reebo)- the one without the hat - is one of the most popular Israeli singers today. He is iconic here - in israel, and now just had some sold out shows in the US as well. His success is due to the following: Even though he is a jewish religious man (originally from France)- he is also popular within the whole country amongst all denominations and ages as He basicly writes all of this own lyrics and music. He is unique in that he is one of the first singers to mix religious - biblical text with his own modern wording and basicly writes poetry. His lyrics are inspirational and thought provoking. This is opposed to the Miami Boys Choir - who catered (well, until now) to only the religious Jewish American Population. Try to get translations of yishais music because its just beautiful. He is also very humble and enjoys singing duets with other singers - this specific one is together with the singer Akiva Tourgeman - whom he helped rise up and become popular as well. I just shared your RUclips chanel on FB and instagram here in Israel. You are going to get a lot of views my friend. Just ask questions about anything and we will all try to answer. Have fun.

Oh, you found a good one! Ishay Ribo (The one without the hat) is one of the most loved singers in Israel! He writes most of his songs and plays the guitar to them.
REALLY recommend listening to his songs: H'lev Sheli (My Heart), Lashuv Habaita (Come home), Ve'Haemt (And the Truth) and Sibat Hasibot (The Reason of the Reasons).
He's really soulful singer and I'm sure you'll enjoy these.

Ishai Ribo is a musician from the generation of the Millennials. Us musicians are newer on the scene, and so are the diversity of musical styles. Ishai Ribo brings more diverse sounds. According to an interview, he was in a Metal band as a teenager and is now playing music that sounds more like Alternative/Soft Rock influenced by Israeli music. He may take from verses of Torah or prayer but also commentaries on Torah and original lyrics...This is as modern as it gets for Jewish music (the type were a religious Jew would go to the concert).
Note, Ishai Ribo was born in France but raised in Israel. His music is the style that fits in Israel but without anything wild or degenerate.

Correct I would describe Ishay and Omer Adam and many other Israeli singers as “pop” stars versus the religious singers you have been hearing so far.
And also correct that a lot of the religious songs come from verses from Psalms and the Torah and famous sayings from Rabbis in the Talmud.

I get such a kick out of the fact that you created a channel with the URL AnimalPubes and stumbled into focusing on this niche religious music I grew up with. Glad you're enjoying it because I know I am!
Ishay Ribo is the first Israeli singer you reacted to and he's the most popular ultra-Orthodox/Haredi Israeli singer.
Just to add to your list: Yerachmiel Begun's channel just released the Miami Boys Choir's live performance of Henai Ma Tov, which was a big hit from their early 2000s group. I think it would be interesting to compare to the late 2000s group you already reacted to. I have other suggestions too but I'll leave it at that for now!

So since I dont see a response to one of your questions, they arent related. This song is by Akiva (guy in white hat). They were managed by Mira Shpigel/Tedy Productions. She is really smart and always had her bigger names bring up and comers onstage to duet their first marginally successful single. Thats how a lot of them got launched. Akiva is also religious like Ishay, so they get on well and Ishay has him come to big shows. He had both Akiva and Amir Dadon at Madison Square Garden in August. (Amazing show by the way).

Hi! my sweet nearly 18 year old son has exposed me to your reaction videos. so, "shuv va shuv" is an expression which means "again and again" both here and in Avraham Fried's song. You really should find translations to the lyrics because you get so much right just listening and watching which is very touching and meaningful to a people which has been misunderstood and underestimated in so many ways and times... You've been watching really the best! "Bevaday" means- "to be sure" and "Al Ta'azvi Yadaim" is "just dong let your hand go". Two wonderful performances of Yishai Ribo are with the song "Mazal Sheyesh Otach" (Lucky we have you) singing with Amir Dadon and Amir Ben Ayoon and also "Hinneni Kan" (I am here) with Harel Skaat, who is a very secular singer and they do a beautiful job together. Hope you watch and enjoy both! Adina

you are just SO SO spot on with your small observations about musical styles and nuances in Jewish music, I wish you were here do discuss it, it's So interesting.
I happen to know Akiva a little, he and Yishai are good friends.
Akiva is one of 11 kids from an amazing family in the south of Israel, they are all very musical - he has a sister who's also a musical artist, but she only performs for women for religious reasons.
the instrument you asked about is Santoor, played by a member of the Alayev family who is another very musical family.
the older violinist is Oren Tzur - also an interesting artist.
also - I'd recommend you to watch videos of Tzama live performances - it's a Hasidic festival that occures every year, about a week and a half before Hannuka in Jerusalem. it's just food for the soul (not only the music, but that's what you will see on youtube..for more info about the date of the festival, google out "Yat Kislev".)
also, check out this one: ruclips.net/video/WKE9XRCtnSU/видео.html

I would argue that "shuv" translates more to "return" and it's usually an emotional plea to return to our homeland that we were once ripped from. It's also the root of the word of "Teshuva" which often translates to "repentance" but is really an attempt to restore to our true selves and identity. Sorry to be a nitpicker, love your reactions!

Funny how u say u love the “live music” in all these clips; actually, in many of the famous Miami boys choir “live version” videos, including the “Yerushalayim” one, the music isn’t live, the soundtrack is the same one used on the albums. Only the vocals are live. However, if u go to yeshiva boys choir channel, u can find some videos there that use the live vocals AND music. Keep up the great work! In addition to all these singers, check out some bands to get a feel for the wedding scene; check out Freilach Band, En3rgy, Zaltz, and Mendy Herskowitz just to name a few. Enjoy!

I’m unsure what campaign ur referring to; what I can tell u is this: go listen to the original studio song that’s posted on RUclips, and watch/listen to the famous “live version” that’s posted on RUclips: the soundtrack for the MUSIC is literally identical, down to every note, fill, etc. It’s not just post production it’s literally the same thing. Yes, the VOCALS are different, and in my opinion sound a lot better on the live version

You are correct to notice the different style in this song. Everything you’ve reacted to before this (except for yalili) would be considered traditional Jewish music styles and is listened to by almost all religious Jews. This one is more Israeli music with modern Hebrew lyrics, not traditional style or from prayers. Contrary to popular belief, not all Jews understand modern Hebrew so this song is not as popular outside of Israel. Jewish and Israeli are not the same in the context of music.

  • @zayiith

  • @freespeech100
    @freespeech100 Год назад +4

You're correct that Ishai Rebo is singing more of a storytelling lyric, and it's great stuff IMHO. And that a lot of Jewish religious music repeats the same phrase or phrases again and again. Part of that is because a lot of traditional Jewish music was almost like a meditative thing. I don't mean like silent meditating, I just mean there's a mood or idea and sometimes groups of people will sing the same words (or even a wordless tune) again and again to create a certain feeling or mood. (You can look at hassidic mitzva tantz videos if you want to see an example. Or Yehuda Green selichos to see a crowd singing the same thing again and again). So even though these videos are of performances, and the nature of many of the tunes is that they are unlikely to be sung outside of a performance, there is still that idea of not looking for variety in lyrics but merely an idea and music that fits to craft a mood.
