@@raccoonfurby8956 you're probably right ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I wouldn't really know. But like I said, acrylic paint and water works great for furbies and other toys because you don't wash them often. And, of course, if I was the kid who wrote My Immortal, I would 100% still be active online and force all my friends to ironically enjoy My Immortal with me while secretly being the author. And then I would jokingly say that I wrote the thing in a fugue state. I see through you, Teya. I. See. Through. You. No one can convince me that Teya is not the author.

As someone who was goth in the early 2000s, I can guarantee the 'white foundation' is more on the clown side. We called it 'pancake makeup' at the time and people who wore it were known as wearing 'pancake face'.
Yup, and using talc as setting powder :D God, the memories - one of my friends used to wear white foundation (yep, it existed! Stargazer was the brand, I think?) with dark eyeshadow. But she never, ever wore mascara... WOW that used to do my head in every time! Another friend had glue-on take vampire teeth, they were super expensive & proper dentist-fitted jobs... When we felt like being casual we'd wear urban/night camp cargo pants with docs... Never needed a handbag though!
@@Blue_Sonnet "never needed a handbag"... yup! And the front of our tight-laced corsets functioned as a handy "pocket" to stash our wallet down when we would dress fancy, or even stowing our cash & ID down in our knee-high boots 😆
I remember scrolling through so many pictures of Scandinavian metal bands for inspiration and wearing full corpse paint to school and my dad said I looked like a mime. :( (kinda true tho)
@@Blue_Sonnet Stargazer might've been the brand! I've never worn white foundation day-to-day (too much of a prep), but I tracked some down for a costume and it was great. Apologies for the goth-appropriating I didn't realize I was doing, and thank you so much for the comment! Not only does it bring back fun memories, I also find all of this super impressive. I'm an uncultured wood critter with very little makeup drive or know-how (as evidenced by my using foundation as eyeshadow more than once) and the fact that people are willing to do so much for the sake of their ideal look always leaves me awestruck.
I’m so late to this but when she says “corset stuff” she may be trying to describe the dress having boning in the waist to give more definition, She’s not the greatest at communicating by a long shot but that’s what I imagined when I heard that phrase
Okay, confession time. In my senior year of high school my then bff and I were obsessed with My Immortal and would do dramatic readings of it for our friends in the park at night. I never got to have an emo phase due to Christian school dress codes so said bff had the brilliant idea to use our cosplay and acting skills (theater kids amirite) to dress up and do these little video diaries/vlogs as the characters. We spent a whole sleepover filming various scenes with her as Ebony and myself as Draco and Vampire Potter respectively. I still remember how powerful I felt in that purple Linkin Park t-shirt, those tight black skinny jeans, rubber emo band bracelets, and shitty plastic blonde wig. Unfortunately I had no idea how to bind properly (lemme tell u that ace bandage cinched tight did NOT feel good) and I also had zero idea what a trans person was, let alone that I WAS one, so I'm sure you can imagine the gender euphoria high alone was enough to coast on for the rest of the year. We filmed at 3am in a few different locations around our neighborhood and it was easily the best night of my teenage life. Needless to say of course, I am now goth and non-binary and have on two separate occasions forced and/or tricked my coworkers into starting a My Immortal read-aloud during our work meeting calls. They secretly liked it. AN: Fangs for da rlly kewl vid, if u lik my stroy plz leav goood revows xDD!!!! IF UR A PREP DNT FUKINGG FLAM!!!!!

As a Tumblr post said very accurately "The complete blurring of the Gender Binary is one of (goth) style's biggest draws." Corsets, make-up, waistcoats, heels, fishnets and big heavy boots are completely GN. People look at you and often their first impression isn't "Boy" or "Girl", it's "Goth/Emo"

I wear contacts half the time and glasses half the time. It's always funny when I start a new job or a new class and having people be like, "Uh... have you always worn glasses?" or "I swear I remember you wore glasses...?". It's kinda hilarious how much it becomes a part of someone's face.
It's so fucking weird to ourselves too
I'm the type of guy who only wears glasses when he goes outside. I don't need them indoors, but outside I feel like I'm half blind, and it's always funny to have people come by my place, only for them to get kinda weirded out seeing me without glasses.
For a moment I experienced the Perry the Platypud meme.

These days everyone keeps telling me I look like Robert Smith and I am living for it. That shit isn't an insult.
I didn't start actually dressing in a way that made me happy until I was like 25, came out as nonbinary, and realized I just wanted to dress like Ms Frizzle every single day.
I feel so seen! I aspired to be emo when I was a kid but never had the guts to go for it, so I just wore jeans, hoodies, and tshirts everyday, then had a phase of trying to look popular, then back to jeans and tshirts. Now I'm 21, know how to dress for my body type, and am just living my best life.

As someone who was goth in the early 2000s, I can guarantee the 'white foundation' is more on the clown side. We called it 'pancake makeup' at the time and people who wore it were known as wearing 'pancake face'.
Yup, and using talc as setting powder :D
God, the memories - one of my friends used to wear white foundation (yep, it existed!
Can confirm 😁
