This is why I don't use valet parking: My truck looked exactly the same way when the valet brought it back! Thank you for the video it was exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks. I was temporarily stranded until I jumped my pump directly to the battery to get me home, was looking for a more permanent/ less dangerous solution, and you supplied it!
You lost me when you said ( I think it plugged to something somewhere ) but you brought me back in with the rest of your vedio. Good job young brother. Thumbs up all the way.
Thank you for this video i was stranded on asuza CA ohv and had to jump my fuel pump with my Milwaukee drill battery. And have not worked on it since... I will look for this relay this weelend!!!!!!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you so much for this video I think this will fix my problem I put a new fuel pump and filter but I’m not getting fuel in my fuel rail or cold start injector!
Did it actually do the trick? I’m going through the same problem with my 02. New fuel pump and everything. 6 weeks I got it done and now it’s boggles down
Good looks man . I've replaced almost everything but that relay. They don't make them anymore. Not for mine. Looking at a boshe replacement. But this will defenatly due
Sean Strandfeldt will shoot a walk around video of it soon! I want to go wheeling, and need to do some stuff to it before it can go out again, will make sure to film!
A guy suggested to take a hammer and beat a few places on the gas tank. I couldn't figure a direction so I did this and it started up. It ran bad but I had an answer. A place to start looking. So it is either the Circuit opening relay or the fuel pump. OR A BAD FILTER!!! I'm going to change the filter and then Jump the fuel pump to see if it runs ok. I backed into a tree a couple of days before my cranking no start. That told me a fuel cut off device/circuit opening relay. Or perhaps some sludge got loose in my tank. So change the filter. The man said I bet you 100 dollars it's the fuel pump. The man knows something that I'm now learning. God Bless!!
Oriellys has a replacement Dormant brand relay that cross references with oem #, was like 20$ and has been working on my 88 for two years no problem, if u can find Toyota one it's like 70-80$ yikes
Yeah my 90 pickup is missing one of the two relays under the hood and they are 28$+ tax at the auto parts store. The truck has been sitting for over 3 years and I just put a different transmission and new clutch hydraulics in it. I don't want to spend 40 more dollars in order to see if it works or not. I guess I will wait till tomorrow morning and try to find one at a junkyard for 7 bucks .. 28 + 7 for the fuse it's also missing I don't have it to spend and if I did I probably still wouldn't. I have EVERY OTHER type of relay and fuse for various manufacturers.. from mopar to VW/Audi and Ford or GM but I don't have any of the Japanese Toyota or Honda ... I don't remember what kind the Honda uses but don't believe it's like the Toyota relays
I have a strange issue : 1995 land cruiser - when I bypass the fuel pump relay everything works as it should, when I plug one in the truck starts but after 30 seconds or so stalls. The relay is working I have two, both brand new from Toyota.
i always buy the haynes manual. It will show the circuit opening relay in the schematic. I think the answer to your question is yes. Ask the parts store if they sell one for it.
Update, my car does not start on cold start , is there any check I can use to troubleshoot (only able to start with starting fluid and works and starts fine when warm )
I'm thinking a vacuum leak. get it running and mist soapy water in a sprayer bottle. the engine will change when it gets sucked into a leaking intake gasket or a another vacuum leak. Don't just soak it all down with water. Do a little at a time and find the leak.
so got home and tried to get my yota running its a 89 5 speed but a pickup buddy has 2 parts 4 runners but the relays arnt the same tried the jumper wire and still no luck have power coming to relay when you crank relay clicks aswell but no power coming out anywhere if i put power to fuel pump truck fires up and runs great anyideas
Jackson Zackodnik hmmm, have you checked out the COR portion of 4crawlers site? Should have any info this vid is missing. It might be different for your later year though. Maybe the FP port is in a different spot so jumping it this way is ineffective?
I think I have this issue as well. Occasionally I'll turn the key to start. It'll rotate and fire and then die immediately like it ran out of fuel and you just keep playing around with it and eventually I don't hear the relay click off and she'll keep running. I also have my starter wired to a separate switch. So I can hold the key to start and she will run. But if I let off and the relay clicks off she will sputter out. So I'm gonna look at this tomorrow
It's a crazy relay, I think it runs the fuel pump only when the engines cranking. I think it is supposed to open that circuit and then run off the ground from the Air sensor. So the minute your air flow croaks your gas shut off switch comes on. Toyota calls it a circuit opening relay. it's Toys secret sauce. I'll bet this makes them a small fortune.
Same thing happened to me bought a new fuel pump still wouldn't turn on.come to find out it was from the MAF sensor by the air filter ..good way to test that was just unplug it and it start with out the plug .once you plug it back in while it's idling it well turn off ...then u know it's bad sensor
Erik R I don’t think there would be any adverse effects, besides if you have an engine fire or you’re in an accident your fuel pump won’t shut off automatically and would continue pumping fuel into the fire until you turn the ign off.
@@doublewrench69 Kind hard to turn off the ignition if the cause of the fire was a vehicle accident & you are unconscious. That's why the relay is there, it's a safety item.
YES. You are NOT supposed to leave it bypassed at all times. It creates more and more fuel pressure as it is continuously pumps fuel. So you have to remove the bypass everytime u turn off your vehicle.
Also if youre MAF not electric clean.it well try to start pumping on gas acting like a carburetor..just clean the plug on both sides.thats if it has hard time starting in morning..or when u not driving alot .
At the end he steps back to show a slightly larger view of the over all disasterous end of the world last resort type of vehicle and says "going to get her going again. Id be worried about whether or not I was going to be able eat or if I had some zombies or anarchist looter pillagers to fend off the next time I look around.. LMAO
Sounds like your ignition cylinder that holds the key is bad. Mine went out on my 67 beetle, the plastic broke inside so spring kept the key in position and kept engaging my starter until I manually twisted key back.plastic parts fail in these ignition lock cylinders
Sounds like the fuel pump. Take a hammer and beat around the tank in a few places then try to start it. Try a few times. This often starts it for a while. But you still need a fuel pump. It's no fix. Only a way to tell. Change the filter!!!
I'm having issues finding mine. I have a 1986 22re sr5 pickup extra cab. Literally have looked all over the truck and can't find the open circuit relay. Please help

You can jump the Fp & B+ connections in the diagnostic port under the hood, by the fuse block.
Awesome! Bypassed the relay, worked perfectly. Problem solved. Been working on this for awhile. Thank you!
Bro, you saved me, thanks. i couldnt find the fuel pump relay
What did you do to fix it?

Thank you. You saved my bacon 🥓
Great video! Big help for me as I seem to have this issue.
Thanks for the great information!
Gracias amigo , esto fue realmente facil con tu ayuda
Awesome video! Nice truck!
There has to be something else?
Mine just gets electricity when cranking.
Simple and perfect
I’m going to subscribe just to see you get that thing all fixed up......

Im having no start issue is it safe to assume if i smell fuel when im cranking it that the open circuit relay is working and powering the fuel pump?
what was the diagnosis
Gracias amigo buen vídeo 👌 muy interesante!!!
Very useful thank you so much!
Very Good explanation, thx. !!!
Hello can you explain why the compressor cluck is not coming when you put on a ac switch for the air to b cold for 1993 corolla ?
Will this work if you’re fuel pump is bad I tried this on my 92 and still nothing I have a feeling I just have a bad fuel pump

Just open the relay and clean the points with a nail file or emory cloth.
Great advice

Yep.looks like it gets the ground when screwed onto the wall! I was thinking same thing when I saw it dangle there when trying to start truck
No more on sale for these kind relay
Worst looking car I've seen in a while. Must be good mechanic to even lay a hand on it.
Can we actually run it like that?
I can't recommend it, supposed to be for diagnostic purposes only
That’s quite possibly the worst example of a Toyota 4Runner I have ever seen in my entire life.
