Ever feel unattractive or unlikable because you think you lack personality? In our last video, we explored how personality affects your love life. Some of you feel alone, thinking no one is interested, while others doubt your uniqueness. But what if you're wrong? Maybe you have a unique personality, you just don't know it. Let's delve into why you feel this way and offer new perspectives. Ever considered if you might be underestimating your own charm? Let's talk about it below :)
Exactly this. I was raised constantly being told my interests were "wastes of time" or "weird" literally just a kid who enjoyed cartoons, anime, video games and drawing. I was always nudged towards more conventional intreasts like cars and sports. While I've grown and found a common intreast with this person, being movies and animation, I still can't bring up anything related to gaming or art without an eye roll or a "u don't make any money from it, its pointless." This is what makes me hesitate to explore my intreasts with people I meet because when they ask "What are you into" I always feel they are expecting me to say sports or partying and when it's not that, suddenly we can't relate. So I dodge the question and make It seem like I just work and sleep. I've become rather self conscious of my image too. I was once a goofy and jolly person who tried what I could to make people laugh. But lately I've been feeling pressured to act more stoic which then makes people assume I'm boring.
@Psych2go I have Asperger's Syndrome and one odd thing I really enjoy is watching ceiling fans. I love watching them accelerate when turning them on and coast to a complete stop when them off and hate missing out on it. To a normal neuro typical person, this is probably the most boring thing. But I've enjoyed doing this ever since I was a little boy and still do to this day at 28.
@@rogerr.7228I too have Asperger's but I have studied people to the point where I can put on a facade to where I'm passable to have a personality relative to the conversation. I don't really know how to describe it, but it sort of works for me.
Culture is also important to consider. In the West we define someone with personality as being louder, more bold, and expressive. That’s not really the case in other cultures where they see that as an outlier or even rude, like in Japan

I was told all my life to "give a good impression" and that I should always "act my best" because people treat you depending on how they perceive you, as such, my personality remains chained most of the time, I play but a character for most interactions.
What if you are also unsure of the character you play, so unsure of yourself that even if you know what must be presented in front of others, you are unable to and make a fool of yourself because of it
@@squeaksp3324 That'd be pretty rough not gonna lie. In such a case you either drop the act entirely, optimize it so you don't look like a fool or ignore the fact you look like a fool.
@@ilck-ym-blals7385 It certainly does, but I guess overtime I convinced myself that whatever act I put is an extension of me, and thus, if people like my act they like me too. Beats being rejected or facing adversities for being genuine.

Absolutely! Learning to be confident and embracing ourselves is key. Positive vibes all the way! 😁❤ What specific experiences or tips have helped you in boosting your confidence and staying true to yourself?
@@Psych2go and what happens when it's false positive or toxic positivity? I mean when can agreeableness becomes blind compassion? When can extraversion becomes narcissistic validation seeking? Openness becomes hedonistic overindulgence? Neuroticism becomes catastrophization and rumination? And when conscientiousness becomes dogmatic?
I think the biggest part is to know yourself and know how you are personality-wise. That's more important than anyone's judgement of you. We live in a world where people judge you from the first 30 seconds which isn't enough to understand you (as a person) properly. You're not going to please everyone and some people are going to sometimes hate you for arbitrary reasons. The other problem is we're told to do certain things to suppress the personality on purpose, and there are instances where you showing your personality (even when it's not obnoxious or negative) can get you into trouble disqualifying you from some things (for example screw you over in a job interview and etc). Being able to know your personality and show your personality is hard lol.
I keep my personality hidden at all times. Fear others will only take advantage of it for their own gain. Just never feel safe to show it.Though feels as though too much is suppressed. Made it a goal to sort that out.
@@Psych2go Not thought of a plan just yet. Thinking of joining a club or community that has shared interests currently. Just got to keep reminding myself to take it slow as I plan to try opening up as well to see if it helps in any way.
I hide mine because people are ignorant and fragile. Plus I have nothing to talk about since I have no hobbies or interests. I have eating disorder so I absolutely despise talking about food, my taste in music is pitiful, just listen to songs I heard from a game if it ost goes hard or there was a song playing on one of the radios like in gta or Forza
Honestly, I think anyone who is accusing others of having no personalities is a jerk themselves …. I think psych2go should discuss “projecting.” Also the person insulting you could be jealous of your status. You’re someone who can boast of being brave, athletic , and hardworking. I bet the person insulting you barely had anything to be proud of. 😚
Your personality/character is usually based on how people view you. So sometimes it does feel like i don’t have any personality or that people dont know who i really am, but your thoughts and feelings are not your personality, however it is the way you express them physically with others.
Hyperbolic logic right here. (your) personality is first and foremost shaped by the experiences you are subjected to. While these can be the effect from what others might say, those are not defining, just contributing, enhancing or negating a trait already present. Using your logic: someone calling me boring to talk to would define me as having no personality, which couldn't be further from the truth even if you tried. I have my own experiences that shaped how I view them and thus characterizing a pesonality on my part. Wether or not I choose to let you get to know it a whole other story. Ergo: you are mostly wrong and have it backwards.
@@skorpion7132 im not saying its what they think or say about you. Im saying its how people experience you in a physical form. Thats why i say its about how you express your feelings and thoughts physically to others. Yes no one can tell you who to be or who you are on the inside but they can observe what your characteristics are. So if someone thinks your boring its partly on you and partly on them. You might not have similar interests so you just dont connect. Or you might have similar interests, you just arent expressing them enough.
I think me suppressing my emotions began during my childhood. I was always scolded or punished when I showed negative emotions like sadness, anger or irritation. With time I began to learn to never show my negative side to others regardless of how close I was to a person. It would pent up and I was left with it all on my own behind closed doors. I've learnt that its okay to cry and be angry just not in a destructive way, it's perfectly fine to FEEL. I used to be a perfect people pleaser now I'm slowly learning to say 'no'. Good luck on your journeys!
@@Psych2go I just met some girls when I went back to school and we started hanging . I'm actually pretty popular now I think. I have about 7 friends and have a nice relationship with most of the class. My friends kinda made me make friends but I'm okay with it. I'm still an introvert tho so it's annoying sometimes😅
I've been told multiple times by a friend that I have no personality. Other people have told me this too, and I honestly don't know what to think. Other friends say I have a great personality. My own opinion probably isn't even fair because my self-confidence has dropped so low recently I can hardly look into a mirror without bursting into tears. Ridiculous, probably, but I don't know what to do. I assume it's because I'm quiet and I'm kind of a people-pleaser. Honestly, I think the whole idea of "no personality" versus "personality" is ridiculous, because everyone is different, and how can you judge someone based on how bubbly or confident they are? If you did, thanks for reading my rant.
I just watch RUclips all the time and I talk about the topics that came from the video and then I put it in my own words. That’s why I have no personality. And then again idk even know what a personality even mean, I don’t realize what personality I have, I don’t really pay attention to it.
I have a great personality. I know because I worked really hard on it because when I first hit puberty I didn't feel physically attractive. The only times when I feel like I don't "have" a personality have always been the times when I've hung out with a large circle of "friends." I never seem to get a word in. Or my opinion isn't valued. It made me appreciate 1 on 1 or 1 on 2 friendships a lot more.
Reminds me of something I've been accused of a couple of times. In a couple of online conversations about attraction and orientation, I mentioned that I'm a Demiromantic Ace. For some reason, some random person accused me of making my Asexuality my entire personality. It is an aspect of who I am, not the whole. I know some people will accuse the same of people who are vegetarian, or of a different religion, or happen to enjoy a specific series. When someone accuses someone else of "making something their whole personality", more often than not, they're just saying "I feel like I can Other you and complain with no repercussions". No-one is only one thing. We are all collages of our experiences and perspectives. You, yes, you reading this now, are a person and should not feel like you are anything less.
Why did you take it that personally though? Some people are always gonna think less of you, it's not like you can stop them and make them "think". You know you are a whole person, right? Go with it. You don't need others' feedback on who you are. Also, people who just attack others because they feel entitled by being anonymous are just what I call "am empty shell". So yeah, congratulations: you've been deemed as not personalyzed enough by people which are virtually non-existent in the spectrum of personality🎉
@@vespiqueen1984 Thank you. I'm getting better at ignoring and blocking those people, but it's not easy for me. Might be because I have a fairly literal mind (I'm on the Autism spectrum, and that's fairly common), so it's harder for me to recognize sarcasm or not take insults personally. It's a skill I'm still developing. Part of it at the moment is probably that I'm having anxiety issues. They're unrelated to the online stuff, part of it is the fact we're in brown snake season (brown snakes are an Australian species, second most toxic snakes in the world, and not unusual to see on my family's property), which always gets me nervous. My brain just connects that anxiety to anything that's going poorly. No idea how to stop it. Sorry if I'm oversharing or rambling. Thanks for listening. It helps.
I think when people say that that something is someone's "entire personality" is because their lives revolve around that one particular thing and it's the only thing that seems to be what the person wants to express. Nothing else matters except for that one thing, so others will observe this behavior and interpret that outside of the one singular aspect of the person, nothing else about them stands out. Hope this helps
@@cynthx True. Though it is unfair when someone assumes that after only a single, indirect interaction. Especially when what's being mentioned has to do with the topic of conversation.
@@cynthx Exactly: it's the only thing the person wants to express. We choose what to express. We can also express nothing at all, if that makes us feel secure. That's about people. They might not fully expose themselves to others, and that's fine.
Well, we're full of surprises! 😄 Is there anything specific about boosting confidence or staying true to yourself that you'd like to share or discuss? We're here for unexpected conversations too!
I feel like I have no personality at all. That makes me stay away from conversations or any other interaction with people. It’s like in the video sad. Pleasing everyone is all I can do to come along with some people, and I completely lose myself and hate me for that. Just 30 min ago I rejected an Invitation to a pub. I don’t even know why they invited me. I don’t have an idea how people see me. I fear that other people could finde out that I’m boring, not so smart or to sensitive. And I fear the awkwardness, where I don’t know what to say. That’s keeps me in a cage. A part of me really wanted to go. I’m feeling so lonely that it’s hurts, but I just can’t overcome that fear.
this was me some time ago, i just got more socially active and i felt like i fit in like a glove!! maybe you have to discover who you are through social interaction
Honestly, been trapped in the belief that I have no personality because of being made fun of at a young age, feeling outcasted as a kid, it affects someone, it made me surpress all my emotions, stay quiet as much as possible and hide away so as not to draw attention and be made fun of again, it is so bad, I lost myself over the last year and am glad I found this video
I suppressed my personality as a result of getting bullied during most of my schooling years and I never want that to go on any further. So I did that, which actually made me less likely to get picked on but I became almost socially inept for the last 3 years. I recognize the need to express the improved version of my personality and stop being tied down by the chains of fear.
Same exact situation from first to last sentence of ur comment, honestly, the fear of showing your true self, drawing attentions and being made fun of again is the worst but eventually we need to be our true selves, it's gonna take a while though, we can do this :)
There’s one saying from a therapist that changed my life is that personality can only be cultivated and not thought-through! Don’t get stuck in your head. Practice being more present first. Further, Try being more open even if it hurts in the short run and course correct slowly and steadily you’ll develop a good personality. Most important step, eliminate fear. Fear of rejection. Understand that you can always make new friends even if current ones leave you. That’s it. Simple.
Personally, I get told I don't have a personality since I always mirror the person I'm talking to or imitate their ideal person. It's honestly something I do subconsciously, and I wonder if there's more information on this type of thing?
Busted! This is one of my go to bland sarcastic explanations to colleagues in the clique. I just unapologetically with a matter of fact tone tell them I have a birth defect… born with no personality. Upside is I can pick whichever personality I choose, tho I prefer the one my BANG energy drink constructs; just wished it lasted longer thru the shift.😜

@@Psych2go Hello Psych2go. I love you so please respond. I'd love you to make a psychology general knowledge video discussing the Mandela effect. What are your opinions on it and have you ever experienced it?
So basically I don't have a personality I don't like or dislike things Maybe I hate preppies But it won't affect or be my whole personality And the other things I might not like or dislike anymore after five minutes And I don't know what happens in my life how am I supposed to have a person
My mother punished me each time I expressed my emotions so I suppressed them even after she died, 16 years ago. Now I'm 35, and just barely understanding how to release them.
6:15 I hate "what was your favourite part of..." questions. I never know what to say, so I just give a facetious answer like "all of it" or "when it finished"
The thing is, I do have interests, but they are so few, and I rarely engage in some of them, that they are almost non-existant. My interests also shift a lot, because I'm bored way too easily, so I'm unable to commit fully. I also don't have many friends, since I barely go out. And those who I used to be friends with at school or university, I no longer keep in touch with.
You make a valid point. "No personality" is indeed a subjective and abstract concept. How do you think society's perception of personality influences individuals' self-perception?
I definitely feel like I sometimes resonate with this. Not very often, but BOY OH BOY does it feel weird responding to people with a null tone that has little emotion in it! Though I have found a couple quick-ish go to options that help me get out of that emotionless pit which I’m very glad for 💜
@@luckygold777 I either slap my earbuds in, listen to some lo-fi, and draw illustrations for a Minecraft AU I’m writing, or if I’m really feeling brave that day, I talk about it with my bestie. I should probably talk about it more often, buuut, this emoji ;w; should explain everything lol
I think that the first part of the video that says: "everybody has personality" is what we should hold on to. The rest of the video, is regarding how to show/not show it. It doesn't matter what a random stranger thinks about you, as long as you don't care what others are thinking. Even if a person tends to: agree from politeness, like pickles or be more introverted/extroverted I argue that its part of their personality. Changing that means also changing your personality. You should only try to "show yourself" when you truly want to. When someone who doesn't know you says you are boring or have no personality, just remember its their own perspective. Focus on what you truly feel and the direction you want to grow as individual. Not what society norms dictates.
If you're trying to make other people like you, all they're going to like about you is your attempts to seem likeable and not who you really are. Become a nobody for real, it feels like you're going insane but you're actually healing
Well it feels like all my friends naturally disappeared from my life cause I am not interested in any of the things they were. Including bad habits like drinking and even gaming. I feel like I haven't changed much just became a lot more quiet. Maybe everybody goes through a period like this in their life unless they resist it and hold onto people. I hope life takes me where I need to be and WHEN I need to be there
I think another similar point would be how people can change their personality when in a relationship. Sometimes you get so caught up in the relationship that you morph into the other person and start subconsciously adopting their personality traits.
The title of this video by itself kind of open my eyes a bit. I always feel like I'm just living. Not being myself or anything. Just walking around because I'm able to. I want to and try to be the best person I can be. But everyday I wake up, and the only thing that I feel like my face is one of the only things recognizable to me as me (if that make any sense).
Thank you so much for your kind words! We hope this video helped you :) Is there a specific topic or question you'd like us to explore in future videos?
@@Psych2go I like watching your videos! It's handy and helps me understand my situation or others situation more. I would love to see a video about Litromantic and Demiromantic. I am still struggling to understand if it's possible to have both.... For those who are wondering Litromantic is where someone you liked likes you back but you suddenly lost interest in them. Demiromantic is under Aromantic spectrum, it is where the person takes some time to like someone. Please do correct me if I'm wrong. I apologize if my grammar is not too good..or have any misspellings.
I also struggle with some emotion's like anger. I tend to be way to angry with many things and do show it from time to time but then I feel like I killed a nice conversation between other people and I do want to avoid that so I suppress my anger and try to not think about it. I do want to improve myself by simply not being as angry as I am because I think that would make me likable, but I didn't find a solution... Well one thing I did improve. I moved away from one of my sources of anger and live on my own for now. But it's only been a few day's, time will tell if I change for the better.
It's not that I don't have a personalilty, I just generally don't show much of it unless I'm around people I consider friends, at least to some extent. That number is, shall we say, very low at the moment.
It's okay to be more reserved and silent when needed. Everyone expresses themselves differently. What aspects of your personality do you feel make you unique, even in your quieter moments?
Somehow it still stings, when I think about this facebook friend that called me a depressed nag(that was just perfect, that me not being comfortable with their narrow-mindedness, counted as selfishness)
The problem is i do show my personality or at least i try, but i don't really have friends who are interested in the same things, so we don't do a lot together or are able to talk about the same things.
I always thought that I don't have any personality, recently I get to know that maybe I do have borderline personality disorder and I was quite happy that finally I got a personality.
I've felt the need to mask for years, so it's hard to show my true self now as it's practically habit. Not only that but i hide when I'm feeling depressed and low, and try to seem more upbeat. But it gets so exhausting bc most of the time, even if i dont feel too bad, I still dont feel good. It's even harder to take off that mask when it seems like western society always expects you to smile and be friendly when you're around people especially in formal settings. But I just can't anymore. I wish not smiling all the time could be normalised and not seen as a social crime
I often find myself here. Because I am alone. I always have been. Every circle I was in I was a guest. Nobody wanted me there they just pitied me. I struggled all my life and it always seemed like everyone hated me. And it still does. It’s a shame to realize that you’re an invisible person. But some people are just likable. Others are just… not… It’s an isolating existence..

One of the most regarded aspects of a person's personality is commonly (regardless of accuracy) the idea that a person's personality level (better or worse) is in a contrasting relationship to that person's physical attractiveness. That is, the less attractive someone is, the better their personality will naturally be in order to compensate for their less than desirable physical qualities, and opposite to that, of course, is that a physically attractive person has a lesser adequate personality. Of course, there is no true validity to this idea, but it has perpetuated as a social myth throughout popular culture/media.

I can also go all day without saying much and they don't seem to like that either. Im not entertaining anymore and i feel so bland as a person now because im no longer performing.
I feel like I have almost no personality because I have no real meaningful experiences in anything, so there is not much to sum or supress, and those small bits that I do have I either avoid showing because of a force of habit or it seems like I can't present them and they not define me in any meaningful way

@Ambardel I do the same and I just ignore
Be careful , doing that can lead to depersonalisation which is like hell on earth.
@@ilck-ym-blals7385 It certainly does, but I guess overtime I convinced myself that whatever act I put is an extension of me, and thus, if people like my act they like me too. Beats being rejected or facing adversities for being genuine.

It's understandable to be cautious. How do you plan on gradually revealing your personality while ensuring it's in a safe and supportive environment?
@@Psych2go Not thought of a plan just yet. Thinking of joining a club or community that has shared interests currently. Just got to keep reminding myself to take it slow as I plan to try opening up as well to see if it helps in any way.
Im the same.
Not everyone deserves to know who you are but some people do, let them find you ♡
I feel the same way
I hide mine because people are ignorant and fragile. Plus I have nothing to talk about since I have no hobbies or interests. I have eating disorder so I absolutely despise talking about food, my taste in music is pitiful, just listen to songs I heard from a game if it ost goes hard or there was a song playing on one of the radios like in gta or Forza
I'm former military. Someone once told me I had the personality of a wall, and that made me smile and reminded me of home. 😊
Walls also have their own unique personalities :)
Honestly, I think anyone who is accusing others of having no personalities is a jerk themselves ….
I think psych2go should discuss “projecting.”
Also the person insulting you could be jealous of your status.
I just don't like to be with people so i just don't talk to them and so they think I have no personality.
-me two years ago.
That kind of how I feel now. How did you fix it?
Thanks for sharing :) How have you changed after two years?
Ditch the “friend” that insults you and just keep the friends that make you feel great about yourself.
I think it depends on who you’re around. Some of my co-workers are super talkative with some people and completely silent with others
@@vespiqueen1984
Thank you.
@@cynthx
True.
That is a question that I never thought anyone would ask, especially from Psych2go.

Honestly, been trapped in the belief that I have no personality because of being made fun of at a young age, feeling outcasted as a kid, it affects someone, it made me surpress all my emotions, stay quiet as much as possible and hide away so as not to draw attention and be made fun of again, it is so bad, I lost myself over the last year and am glad I found this video

for some reason whenever i see a psych2go video it is extremely accurate and personal and i am concerned that they are stalking me 😨
10 things what I like about my life? That's way too much! Can 2 or 3 things be enough? On the other hand 10 5hings I hate is too short...
Somehow last titles describe my every life problem that i am insecure about
I suppressed my personality as a result of getting bullied during most of my schooling years and I never want that to go on any further.
I don't know why but i keep falling asleep with your voice, so relaxing yk😴💤
Being sort of a" hidden" person I know that other quiet types also have a rich inner life and personality that I'm interested in. I see you guys! ❤❤❤
I believe what you are referring to is fawning

@@Psych2go Hello Psych2go. I love you so please respond. I'd love you to make a psychology general knowledge video discussing the Mandela effect. What are your opinions on it and have you ever experienced it?
So basically I don't have a personality
I don't like or dislike things
Maybe I hate preppies
But it won't affect or be my whole personality
And the other things I might not like or dislike anymore after five minutes
And I don't know what happens in my life how am I supposed to have a person
I like your voice, as a non native English speaker it sounds clearer to me
My mother punished me each time I expressed my emotions so I suppressed them even after she died, 16 years ago. Now I'm 35, and just barely understanding how to release them.
I gatekeep my personality from people who don’t deserve it (people who exploit personal details)
6:15 I hate "what was your favourite part of..." questions. I never know what to say, so I just give a facetious answer like "all of it" or "when it finished"
I was told i have no persobslity by multiple people. I kinda agree.
I think the term “no personality” is even nonsensical to exist, as it’s not something you can “count”
You make a valid point. "No personality" is indeed a subjective and abstract concept. How do you think society's perception of personality influences individuals' self-perception?
This video is actually really helpful for me to self-reflect. Thank you!
I definitely feel like I sometimes resonate with this. Not very often, but BOY OH BOY does it feel weird responding to people with a null tone that has little emotion in it! Though I have found a couple quick-ish go to options that help me get out of that emotionless pit which I’m very glad for 💜
what worked out for you?
Very interesting video. I went through this and finally understand my personality.
Thanks :) We hope this video helped. What did you learn about your personality?
If you're trying to make other people like you, all they're going to like about you is your attempts to seem likeable and not who you really are. Become a nobody for real, it feels like you're going insane but you're actually healing
That's a good point. How has this shift impacted your sense of self and well-being?
Well it feels like all my friends naturally disappeared from my life cause I am not interested in any of the things they were. Including bad habits like drinking and even gaming. I feel like I haven't changed much just became a lot more quiet. Maybe everybody goes through a period like this in their life unless they resist it and hold onto people. I hope life takes me where I need to be and WHEN I need to be there
So many facts
underrated video
thank you :) we hope this helped
Why calling me out like that 😳
I think another similar point would be how people can change their personality when in a relationship.
I love your video's it makes me like I know what true and what's false I hope you keep posting throughout everything you experienced ❤

I don’t like to share my personality. Cause I’m weird, sad etc.
Why would you say so? :(
But sad isn't a mood? Even with depression is hard always been sad in my experience. I don't think you should consider that your personality

Why do these videos get made the perfect time for me tf? 💀
I've got no personality. I'm silent when I need to be silent.
It's okay to be more reserved and silent when needed. Everyone expresses themselves differently. What aspects of your personality do you feel make you unique, even in your quieter moments?

I always thought that I don't have any personality, recently I get to know that maybe I do have borderline personality disorder and I was quite happy that finally I got a personality.
That survey sounds like the respondents basically described introverts as having "no personality" and extroverts as having "a lot of personality".
I was about to put my phone down, when I saw this notification..never clicked so fast
Talk about perfect timing :) How do you feel about this video ?
Others are just… not…
It’s an isolating existence..

I’m being called out in this video.
I used to be a big people pleaser. I've been working on not being one for years and now that im not actively trying to be accommodating all the time, im no longer well received by anyone... I can also go all day without saying much and they don't seem to like that either. Im not entertaining anymore and i feel so bland as a person now because im no longer performing.
wow i actually just have no personality
I feel like I have almost no personality because I have no real meaningful experiences in anything, so there is not much to sum or supress, and those small bits that I do have I either avoid showing because of a force of habit or it seems like I can't present them and they not define me in any meaningful way
I have been told I am emotionless. I’ve fixed that though. I smile wider and laugh more often.
i was told by someone i once considered a friend that i've no defining quality. and it hurt. and i'd be lying if i say that i don't think about it to this day. he probably doesn't even remember saying this to me. which i why i believe that our words matter a lot and i've been really considerate of how others feel since idk....i was born. but why do i need to hear such cruel things when i've been good with people all the freaking time. i hate how karma is a word used by poeple who can't really do anything of their situation and i'm one of them. but slowly i've become tit for tat typa person. idk if it's worth it but atleast this way i don't allow people to hurt me. also about the defining quality part, idk what to do, i tell myself that people say anything that comes to their miind and here i'm searching about personality.
I always try being true myself, but people always say I act like a child & I am very insensitive 🙄. I don't wanna be nice and kind because i feel like i'm just forcing myself to be nice & kind 😅, i just do what i feel like i want to do...i guess
