the Texas rig is such a great technique primarily because its simple, but vids like these are incredibly useful for people that have crossed over from a rookie to an amateur
Wow just seeing this out of the box ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.
“GAME CHANGER” Y’all gave me a new perspective on Texas rigs. When it’s something you’ve done since your childhood and you realize few simple tips change everything. Thanks
You guys are the best! I'm a life long fisherman, but the last two years it's become my passion. I watch all your vids, I've changed my techniques from the ground up. Can't wait to see Matt in a boat again when he's ready! Thanks for your great work!
It's been a blessing to find this channel. It's by far has made me more versital angler. I love that you guys always say try it all. Not just this how I fish it and you should too. You explain in depth and put the info out on the table and say try it all find what works for ppl like me. Guys keep the videos coming. Thanks for being genuine and humble teachers to spread y'alls knowledge and experiences to the world.
Great video guys. I love how you supply tons of unbiased information without forcing your opinions on your viewers and encourage us to try everything for ourselves.
Tim/Matt, it is odd to see how so many "newer" rigging ideas have sort of pushed the emphasis away from the old standard Texas Rigged worms/creature baits with a bullet shaped nose weight. One of the pro bass anglers recently said he has stuck with it, often picks up fish working down a long bank using a T-rigged worm . . . where the boats in front of him missed them with other presentations. It is sort of one of the fool-proof staples of bass fishing. I learned a few new things from your video!!! Thanks! Brad
Yes! Texas rig is what I was first taught to use. I was just using split shot a few years back, and man did I Always get hung up! Bobber stops are definitely the way to go!! Great info as always guys!!
Caught a 5-14 after flipping + punching + some wacky stuff for a few 2+ 3s cause I remember to slow down and focus on a big fish area I had a gut feeling, Matt will know what I'm talking about lol , lots of thanks to your content + awesome information as always!:)
The right method is the one that catches fishes! It's good you guys are going over the technical aspect of each hooks and method. This helps people make better decision on buying the right hook. People should also realize that to catch fish its not always what you want and comfortable, but what the fish wants. A little change in presentation will land bigger and more fish in the boat!
I fish a lot of clearer grass lakes in Northern Indiana and I prefer very light, unpegged bullet weights so my bait gets that slow drift/swim over the tops of the grasses. Play around with your weight size AND the resistance your bait creates in the water. Example, the resistance of a trick worm on the fall versus a brush hog. Also, not a Texas rig but split shot weights have fallen out of favor for some reason but I’m telling you guys, if you fish rocks, rip rap etc, and get hung up with your Texas rigged bullet weights you need to use light split shots. Worlds better for rocky bottoms. Tight lines guys! Another great video from Tacticalbassin!
Texas Rigging was a game changer when my friend showed it to me. It took me from not understanding how to fish and always pulling weeds to becoming obsessed! Thanks guys, great video! Gotta get me some straight shanks now.
most informative fishing channel on RUclips. love watching your guy's videos and learning from them and catching fish with tips and tricks I've learned from you guys. keep it up. thanks as always tight lines brother
I agree with both you guys on the hooks. For a long time I used ewg for all my Texas rigging. As of lately I've been using off set shank round bend hooks for thinner baits and straight shanks for punching. But you can most definitely use an ewg for all applications. It may not always be best. But it will always work.
Would like to see a chatterbait video in depth on different brands, rods/reels, and line choices! Love your video content you guys are hands down the best informative bass fishing channel on RUclips!
Thanks for that guys was searching for use on Perch in the UK lot more technical info and explanations than I found on UK channels, not surprising tho you have been doing this a lot longer than we have. Very informative.
The Trokar Big Nasty worm hook is an amazing punch hook. That's all I use on the Delta now. I'm able to get in and out smoother and have had no issues with hook ups. I landed a 12 on that hook last fall in NASTY grass and it held up. Great video, keep it up. I hope to book a trip on Clear Lake with you this year.
Thank you two for the hard work and dedication to fishing education. Comment on the Texas rig Matt... For you, you can have the best of both worlds by using a set of pliers and slightly angling the point out for better hook sets on the 4/0 EWG Off Set. I have noticed some of the straight shank brands have the point angled in just a skoash. So the area behind the barb makes contact before the point. I still use pliers to angle the point out to make sure the point is the first contact...Thanks again!
I never thought about the advantages of not pegging my texas rigs for finesse fishing. Thanks for a new perspective on the oldest technique in the book.
Is 20lbs flourocarbon too heavy? I’m a bank fisherman so it’s important to me to be able to cast fat but also to be able to winch that fish in without worrying about my line. I also have a 6ft medium baitcaster. Is that an ok choice for a good all round rod? I’m just curious if that’s going to be good for positive hooks sets?
Always used the EWG myself but I wanna try the straight shank flipping hooks. Y’all are awesome awesome awesome. Thanks guys. Keep the great info coming
If you like flipping i think you would like the straight shank flipping hook. Seems like i have had better hook up ratio since ive been using them. I never use the EWG for flipping anymore. Try them and see what you think. Go catch a bunch this spring!
When I fish the small rivers in my area I sometimes just put a splitshot sinker on instead of a bullet weight. Works just as well. You can move it all the way to the end of the bait (like pegging without the stopper) or pull the weight up a foot and let the bait flutter up and down with the current or over the structure. I catch more river fish that way than any other way. p.s. really good video guys.
I like Tim's style. I mostly fish in rocky areas and EWGs will hinder the performance of smaller baits. Can't get a bite with a 4" Senko on a 2/0, but when I switched to baits that lessen the gap, immediate bites from all kinds of species. I'm gonna try them on a straight shank, along with those Roboworms. I really want to catch a brown trout on casting gear. I caught a small common on a baby D-Bomb. That was nuts. Anyway, sorry for rambling. I really love your videos. Would love to see you collab with Nick from IF. Good luck and tight lines fellas, -Will
Looking forward to seeing the difference in hook ups with that straight hook angled upwards. I think I've been missing hits by using the wrong hook for the worm I throw. Thanks for the tip!
Love the video guys! I noticed that when I'm throwing buzz toads, having a straight shanked hook really helps the hook up ratio. I smashed 'em last summer on that bait and I plan on repeating it this year.
Another awesome video!!! I’ve always used ewg gamakatsu hooks and bobber stoppers to peg my weights and of course tungsten weights cause I can’t find a single reason to use lead weights except for price but fishing isn’t a cheap hobby!!
I fish the Delta and punch a lot. I switched to the Trokar big nasty off set worm hook over a straight shank. That wire is extremely stout and I've not had an issue with it. I landed a 10 & 12 on that hook in some NASTY mats. Worth a shot.
yall have inspired me to try and catch some bass, ive never targeted them before and ive been out everyday for almost two weeks and i cant get a bite , ive tried the frog some chatter bait some swim baits a texas rig with a craw i just cant seem to get a fish . i know there are fish where im at ive heard about people catching um , im in washington state btw any pointers for the northwest , cause im about to go back to salmon trout and steelhead .
Great vid as usual. Planning on hitting Lake Del Valle here shortly so my youngest son can get his first catch. Making sure he won't be spending all his time sanged is important.
I have always always preferred EWG. Getting “owned” every once in a while is more gratifying than actually landing that heavy cover fish 😸... I once sheared off a gama 3/0 EWG on ML spinning gear when I pulled a fish out of some lily pads, still kept that broken hook forever.
Great video as always... I use the Gamakatsu Offset round bend worm hook, Texas rigged. Excellent hook up ratio. But i do have a question, totally off the subject... I have a Lew's speed spool- teamed up with an ABU Garcia Veritas med. rod. and I have caught so many big Large mouth bass on this rig. And here is the problem, i use really nice line Seagar invisx, Seagar abrasive fluorocarbon, P-line tactical fluorocarbon... so on. and literally loaded for a tournament Friday evening, Saturday morning I may have cast 10 times when in the air the line breaks and it shows up like it happened at the spool. I have checked eyes, had a pro check the eyes on my rod...changed the tip just for me to feel better. But so far almost every time or every other time I fishing this is happening... I even bought 15lb. this time, so i could make sure it didn't happen during the tournament. Is it possible this could be something in the reel causing this. I have 4 other $200 Lew's , no problem. i bet I have wasted $80 on line, thinking I was getting old line... Frustrated, any suggestions? THis is the $99 and for some reason its my favorite. my PB on this set up this summer was 12 lbs. Large Mouth. So I know it matches well together, should I contact Lew's? TY, wendy b.
My hookup ratio throwing a texas rig is terrible I just bought a bunch of G-finesse straight shank hooks and hybrid worm hooks hopefully your tips help me out this year!
Regarding pegging or not pegging: When I learned to plastic worm fish in the late 60's with my daddy (who won several regional tournaments) no one pegged. Wasn't even heard of in the South back then. I wonder if pegging a bullet weight up a little on a Tex rig can help. Sort of a 1 inch mini Carolina rig?
Lately I have found that rigging the point slightly inside the bottom of skinnier baits like worms, it is more weedless than punching through the top and burying the tip back in but tends to stick better than leaving the point in the middle.
So Matt I totally get your reasons for fishing ewg hooks with clients etc. When fishing a tournament when landing a fish or not is the difference between winning or going home empty what type of hook are you using? Thanks for the vids
Awesome vid as always. When you flip/punch, as the bait is about to hit the water, do you thumb the spool to prevent backlash? When I thumb the spool at that time, it prevents the bait from dropping straight down.
You guys should do an in depth chatterbait video. Lot of discussion about glass vs graphite rods and braid vs fluoro with chatterbaits. Would love to hear your guy's opinions!
the Texas rig is such a great technique primarily because its simple, but vids like these are incredibly useful for people that have crossed over from a rookie to an amateur
True.

I know this video is 6 years old but it’s the best I have found to describe Texas rigging. Awesome to go back and watch your old videos
Thanks guys, went out to the lake this morning and nailed my PB 5.12 on a Texas rig senko Boom!
God is good
That’s a decent fish! My pb is a 5.5 trout, or maybe the 5.? Catfish I got a couple of days ago while bass fishing
No one else gives better informational content than you guys. My favorite channel to watch. 🤙🏻
Kelly Mason so true
“GAME CHANGER” Y’all gave me a new perspective on Texas rigs. When it’s something you’ve done since your childhood and you realize few simple tips change everything. Thanks
There is no comparison, TB is the most informative, no BS channel in existence. Thank you guys and please never stop

You guys are the best! I'm a life long fisherman, but the last two years it's become my passion. I watch all your vids, I've changed my techniques from the ground up. Can't wait to see Matt in a boat again when he's ready! Thanks for your great work!

Great video guys. I love how you supply tons of unbiased information without forcing your opinions on your viewers and encourage us to try everything for ourselves.
Adding a bead between the sinker and hook can give a little sound which helps in certain situations. Love the video's keep em coming..
also protects your knot
Could you please do a in-depth dock fishing video that would be great if you could
The Top Water King !

You answered my questions well just by explaing the differences in hooks and pegging. Thanks.
The best by far RUclips channel out there. You guys are the most informative on the internet about fishing.
Caught a 5-14 after flipping + punching + some wacky stuff for a few 2+ 3s cause I remember to slow down and focus on a big fish area I had a gut feeling, Matt will know what I'm talking about lol , lots of thanks to your content + awesome information as always!:)

Rocky Top Splash agreed
My favorite instructional fishing channel.
Best channel on youtube, hands down
Texas Rigging was a game changer when my friend showed it to me. It took me from not understanding how to fish and always pulling weeds to becoming obsessed! Thanks guys, great video! Gotta get me some straight shanks now.
Wow I like the straight shank hook idea. That will definitely be great for an ultralight fishing rig.
Once again. Thanks for all the great info you guys put out! I learn something new or a different option every video
most informative fishing channel on RUclips. love watching your guy's videos and learning from them and catching fish with tips and tricks I've learned from you guys. keep it up. thanks as always tight lines brother
TacticalBassin Your Instructional Vids are the best thanks Matt!!!
Texas Rig - First thing I learned to throw! Great job guys. Always enjoy your videos!
Great vid. Never really knew the benefits of straight shanking, now I'm definitely gonna start using it.
Literally just suggested this video last video! Awesome guys
Great stuff guys so much more to a Texas rig then just rig it up and go 👍👌
I agree with both you guys on the hooks.
Love your video content you guys are hands down the best informative bass fishing channel on RUclips!

p.s. really good video guys.
IMO, split-shot can damage the line.
Ive had great success with split shot and might also add that I use clam split shot which goes through heavy cover better than traditional split shot.
I use both
I do like Tim's idea on straight shank hooks I'm going to try it
I needed that video. I can not thank you guys enough. You guys are awesome.much appreciated

Love to Texas rigs always use EWG now I might try straight shank
WEARING SHORTS.........Just had 18" of snow melt.......lmao!!! Keep up the excellent content!!!
Great Vid, I also actually like the Owner Offset Wide Gap Worm hook for big worms and to get away from some of that hook hanging below the bait.
Love the content as always guys! Thanks for sharing and keep posting! Congrats on reaching 100k subscribers!!!
Another great vid guys! yall need to make a tour of East Texas Lakes sometime. We got some mondos!!

Sick video guys. I could listen to t-rig talk forever.
Great information guys, keep being the best on RUclips.
Looking forward to seeing the difference in hook ups with that straight hook angled upwards. I think I've been missing hits by using the wrong hook for the worm I throw. Thanks for the tip!
Tim -straight shank Matt-EWG You guys kill me with how well you play well with one another yet disagree Love it!
Extremely high quality information,as always! Keep up the great work!

Great subject on much I didn't know about.
I fish the Delta and punch a lot. I switched to the Trokar big nasty off set worm hook over a straight shank. That wire is extremely stout and I've not had an issue with it.
I landed a 10 & 12 on that hook in some NASTY mats.

Very useful information my friends!
Luv the breakdown guys! Thanks for the tips.
Another great video guys !!!
Excellent presentation and content!
That cleared up a lot of information for me. Thanks!
Just a great informative video thank you guys... Love your channel

Thank You for replying I appreciate that, I'm lookin forward to the video or review of this new hook that could change our hook up ratio
Something about matt allens hands.... these guys are the best in the business

Can u guys make an in depth bladed jig video?
yes please!!!
So Matt I totally get your reasons for fishing ewg hooks with clients etc. When fishing a tournament when landing a fish or not is the difference between winning or going home empty what type of hook are you using? Thanks for the vids
Thanks. Love the office 🌱
Do You fish any tournaments becouse you guys are good an always have great advise an are very skilled fisherman great job kee up the great work...
Awesome vid as always. When you flip/punch, as the bait is about to hit the water, do you thumb the spool to prevent backlash? When I thumb the spool at that time, it prevents the bait from dropping straight down.
do either of you use the offset worm hooks for longer worms instead of EWGs or straight shanks?
You guys should do an in depth chatterbait video. Lot of discussion about glass vs graphite rods and braid vs fluoro with chatterbaits. Would love to hear your guy's opinions!
Awesome video! I love this channel!
