Hi Ashley, I just watched all your videos and wow, love this casual, fun, and raw new channel. I have been following you for a few years now and have learned so much. I just wanted to take a moment and thank you. Thank you being a truly beautiful person ❤ Inside and out!! You have inspired me so much and I want you to know that because of you I am excited to learn more about becoming a reseller too. I do pray for you, TJ, and the boys all the time. Sending love from Chesapeake, Virginia
Jennifer 😊
I'm so happy to see that you've started a new channel Ashley! It is so freeing to create content that feeds your soul! I'm excited to hear about your audiobook recommendations!
Audiobooks are the best for making housework and driving go by so much more pleasantly.
I really enjoyed Roslyn Landor’s narration in The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society. That was an excellent audiobook.
Emily Gray does a fantastic job of narrating the early shopaholic books as well.
Revisiting Sophie’s books is comforting. I agree with you Twentie’s Girl is just such a treasure.
Have you read her “Can you keep a Secret?” The movie wasn’t so good, but the book is so sweet and funny.
I used really enjoy John Grisham books. The Broker and the Camino books are engaging and interesting. Lately I’ve been enjoying the coffeehouse mysteries by Cleo Coyle and the Killer Coffee mysteries by Tonya Kappes.
This is a fun new channel, Ashley!
Thanks for sharing these! I have also loved reading since I was a kid and worked at my college's library. I have two recent favorites to recommend. One is recent and definitely on audiobook. It's called First Lie Wins. The other one might be harder to find, but it's called The Authenticity Project.
Great recommendations. I love to listen to audio books to and from work. They totally transcend me into their world.
Loving this! I’m always looking for audiobooks to listen to while I work.
Thanks so much for the recommendations! 😊
Kormoran Strike! Oh, how I love him! Thank you for sharing your time with us. OI would recommend Sean Duffy, by the way. The author Adrian McKinty has become my favorite. Try something he has written.
So great to get these recommendations. I need to try audio books. I used to read so much then stopped for a while. This past year I got back into it and have been enjoying my kindle. I needed some light reading so I was reading a lot of beach reads.
Thank you for the recommendations. Great new channel. x
Have you read The Glass Castle? One of my favorites.
I LOVE that book! So good.
One of my most cherished items is a signed copy of the Martian. I haven't checked his other books yet but they are on my tbr for sure
So happy to watch this since you've mentioned in your thrift videos that you love to read. Love the Strike series! Was never inclined to read Silver Linings Playbook but I might give it a shot after all.
Looking forward to you talking about your favorite TV shows since you always reference comedies that I love (The Office, Parks & Rec, etc). Til the next one! :)
Yay!! Book chats with Ashley! Your little cozy corner is fantastic! I’m also a huge Sophie Kinsella fan. It breaks my heart that she does not get the recognition and spotlight she deserves. Have you read Finlay Donovan yet? That mystery series cracks me up.
I haven't but I'm so excited to check it out! A funny mystery series is exactly what the doctor ordered!
First book recommendation!! Score!! Ashely - Get a Goodreads account!!!
The Girl Who Fell From The Sky - a master class memoir in learning to love yourself.
Memoirs of a Geisha - Book so interesting you cant put it down.
Verity - because Colleen Hoover never disappoints.
You've turned me on to a new series and have already purchased the 1st one. Thank you. Always looking for a new good book.
I absolutely loved Tom Lake by Ann Patchett on audio! It’s read by Meryl Streep and she was captivating! Also, another Patchett is Dutch House read by Tom Hanks!
Ashley I LOVE this video. You come alive when u talk about these books! I've read most of the Kinsella books, but am going to start the Strike books tomorrow!!! I love lots of authors, buy would recommend Ken Follett and Sidney Sheldon books if u r looking for someone else. Thanks!!!❤❤
I've tried Pillars of the Earth but I didn't get into it, probably because my brain was so fried postpartum lol! I need to try it again because I've only heard good things.
I love this so much!! I used to read all the time it was my escape too. I’ve gotten older 50 ekkk so I listen to audio while working too. Ty for suggesting narrators because if I shoe the mayorship I can’t listen l
Thank you for the recommendations! Gotta keep the love of books alive and well. My recommendations would include The History of Love, A Visit From the Goon Squad, A Brief History of Seven Killings, The Map of Love, Downtown Owl, and the Visible Man. For biography I'm currently reading Ghengis Khan and the Making of the Modern World. Graphic novel I'd suggest Maus. Some of these deal with very heavy subjects but as you said about your recs they are intentional and not gratuitous. They are authentic in their own individual way and I think that's the best compliment you can pay a book or work of art.
Hi Ashley, I'm excited to follow you here! I really enjoy listening to audiobooks while working too! Loved Amor Towles Rules of Civility and The Lincoln Highway. Also another vote for Demon Coperhead. American Dirt is a good one. Ordinary Grace and This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger (he also has a crime series that people seem to like but I haven't read). If you like a series of books I also enjoyed the Seven Sisters series by Lucinda Riley. Ohh also, The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah is great on audiobook. ❤ Best wishes to you!
I'm excited for your new channel and even more content from you:) My recos for you: The Time Traveler's Wife, Half Broke Horses, The Signature Of All Things, Cherry, Demon Copperhead, Tell The Wolves I'm Home. Have you ever thought about installing a Little Free Library in front of your house? I have one and I feel like you'd have so much fun with it.
Thank you for the recommendations. I listened to a couple books you recommended a while ago on Instagram - one of them is my husbands favorite books now - Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. Looking forward to the new channel!
LOOOOOVE Dark Matter! I've listened to that one a few times, too! I should have added it to the list. A great slump buster and so fast-paced! I was hooked!! Did you like the show?
I love books so I'm absolutely here for it. I'm just sad because with reselling, reading has been on the back burner. Any spare time I have I feel like I should be working. I need to find that love of reading again and try to make time for it.
You ever thought about writing a book and promoting it to your social media audience? I think you'd kill it. You have so much to say. This could be a good next chapter for you.
Oooo, I'm excited to read the Strike books--I definitely felt like the Harry Potter series ruined me for all other books! But there's a series that I really loved (and haven't heard anyone talk about) by a very indie author (JD Nixon) - the Heller series. It follows a young woman who sort of randomly gets a job as a security officer and she ends up living on-site (in the security business building) along with the owner of the business and some other misfits (they become their own little family of sorts) so it follows her on all sorts of jobs/clients and adventures. It's just fun, I wouldn't say it's the most masterfully written series (a lot of it feels unrealistic) but the characters are all very rich and the adventures keep you on the edge of your seat - the steamy romance between her and the boss is fun to watch unfold. Sadly the author went MIA and never wrote the final book to the series (so there are 6 books in total, there was supposed to be a 7th)
Immediately adding this to my list! Thank you!!
I love to read. Honestly, I think I would have not survived without books. But I am not an audio book fan. I'm a very visual reader/learner and I need to see the actual words. I also prefer an actual book to a digital version (yes, I am much older than Ashley). I recently discovered a couple new authors. One is Mega Miranda - check her out. I have read a couple Kinsella books. The Galbraith series sounds very good. I will see if I can get them from the library. Loved this video, keep up the great work!
So you're basically like a house cat. You need a safe, private, cozy place to hide in away from everyone.
I am 100% a house cat and TJ is 100% a golden retriever 😂
I love reading. I can read much faster than audiobooks so they kinda frustrate me because I want to know what happens faster haha. But they are good for driving or washing dishes, doing house work.
When I used to drive an hour one way to work I would get audiobooks for the drive and lunch break. I really enjoyed Jodi Picoult. Have you ever read her books? I have been collecting the hard cover ones. I love your new channel.
Maeve Binchy is one of my favorite writers. I love the Irish accent. Anything January Lavoy reads is good too! Have you read where the crawdads sing? I think you'd love that one. You'd also like the four winds by Kristin Hannah.
I think the movie The Holiday was based on a Maeve Binchy book, right?? I need to read her and I'm sure her cozy books would be right up my alley! And Kristin Hannah is for sure on my list!
@@chillathomemom I just looked up The Holiday and Binchy is not mentioned in the credits but it does resemble a part of her Tara Road book. In the book there is a house swap between an American and Irish Woman.
I always have a book going in one of my ears (have to keep the other ear open in case my husband is trying to tell me something). I'd be interested in a book club "live" sometime if you feel led in that direction.
Listening to Project Hail Mary. Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult was amazing on audio.
Going back to the same books…probably because there’s comfort in familiarity. Kind of like the kids liking to hear the same books every night.
Would LOVE a books you hated video 😂 I feel like everytime I read the “top” or most acclaimed books of the year, I hate them so I’m curious what’s on your list!
Also I’ve never read Cormoran Strike but I watched the HBO show and loved it! Curious how it compares, maybe readers hate it! lol but i definitely want to give the books a shot now!
The Strike series is definitely good in its own right as a show, but the books are just.... oh my gosh, so so soooo good! Definitely give them a shot!
Already hit up Thriftbooks for four books from your suggestions. LoL
YES!!!
I completely agree about the Silver Linings Playbook movie, I didn't understand the hype.
Do you have to read Robert Galbrath in order?
definitely would recommend reading them in order!! each book is its own case, but there is a lot about the character's personal lives that is woven in as well, so things would be spoiled/confusing if read out of order. they're sooo good!
Have you watched the tv series, C.B. Strike based on the books? It just came to Max.
I have! It's good in its own right but the books are just so incredible that it's hard to compare the two 😂
I love jks other series as well, but thank you for making me fill old by saying what age you were when harry potter started😂😂
Would love your thoughts on Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine
I really enjoyed that book! I loved how realistic the main character was dealing with all her baggage and pain. It felt very real and was a very enjoyable listen for sure.
Pat Conroy’s books. The only problem is that he didn’t get to write enough books before he died. His content has quite a bit of foul language but not for entertainment purposes. Most of the books are about his abusive military dad and his own years at the Citadel. You can’t give readers a true feel of the Citadel back in the day and still use clean language, unfortunately. So well written that I would put his writing style up against some of the best authors of the classics. Also, his books are semi autobiographical.
thanks ill check them out! i need a good novel.
