  • My 4th flight started with a faceplant...then things got much better! More nice flights down at the field while the weather played ball.

How did your fellow trainee not see the landing field with it's giant mowed circle and ponds alongside?
    Glad he spotted it eventually!
One thing which surprises me is how steep the wing climbs as you take off, it almost looks as though it might stall out backwards.
I'm hoping to sign up for some training local to me in the near future, thanks for the inspiration your experience provides, and the very good film making you've provided with your channel. :-)

Hi Barry, thanks for your kind comments I'm glad you like my videos and you've found something in them which has inspired you to start flying too! To be fair to Col in the video who momentarily lost his bearings...its all part of the training experience really. When you initially start flying there's quite a lot of load on the pilot and you're having to do a lot of things all at the same time, and it's also pretty exhilarating. At height, everything becomes a lot smaller than it seems when on the ground and in a lot of cases everything looks the same, especially the patchwork of fields in the UK. The circle is pretty small from the air and with everything going on for the pilot in the early stages sometimes its easy to get lost if you've been concentrating on other things. In this case it was just an exercise and just part of Cols course on the day...and much fun :). You're right about the climb rate, Paramotor are pretty impressive as they do climb very well (if you have the right setup). It is possible to stall the wing, but modern wings are very efficient and have a lot of built in redundancy for recovery and collapses etc especially training wings as per those you see in my training videos. If you think it looks steep form the ground then once you fly one yourself it feels even steeper when you're in your harness 😁 Good luck with your future training, make sure you do it, I guarantee you'll love it 👍

What exactly caused the face plant? At first I thought your wing came over the top (no brake check) but then I thought maybe you just tripped. Anyway great flights. Makes me want to get back out there but the weather hasn't been cooperating.

I lifted the wing which initially hung to the right side. I didn't feel it until quite late when I then gave a big brake input to the left to catch it. The wing quickly oscillated to the left and at the same time it quickly surged forwards. I hit the throttle and ran like mad man to keep under it but at that point it had me a little light on my feet and I didn't have much grip so basically the wing pulled me forwards and to the left since it was still oscillating to the left aswel. I got it all wrong on that occasion :)

Hi Robin, absolutely. I trained with FlyPap, based in the Northwest. Excellent tuition and lots of laughs. Definitely give it a go…don’t let my face plant put you off 😁 you’ll love it 👍

do you need license for it to fly in uk? thx

Hi, no but it is highly recommended that you get good and adequate training to do this. Aviation laws still apply, so again proper training is the key to flying safely and legally.
