For all of Danny's fears and submission to peer pressure and his friends opinions, they didn't seem to mind his hanging out with Sandy and seemed to welcome her pretty easily to the group.
He's insecure and thinking his friends will respond badly to anything not in line with his image/reputation brings down his self-esteem. I kinda wish people would stop talking about how the cast were a lot older than their roles. Maybe they were, but somehow it still works, so can we just forget about it and enjoy the film?!
I agree. Plus, do people really wanna see high school minors on camera smoking, drinking, and making out? No! So having adult actors do that on camera is way more preferable.
@@mgutierrez4684 Absolutely. It would be incredibly twisted to have minors playing these roles. And I think having adults play minors adds to the humour and mockery of teenagers which is very much the point of the film. Besides, these actors have far more experience and professionalism than most real teenagers would have.
If we think deeply about it that's actually the main reason of why Grease is eternal, so at the end is a good thing. Is the magic of Grease. They were at the perfect age to make it like this, not too young, not too old and out of phase. Also the clothes and style of that era helps. Well, and the catchy immortal songs obviously. If they were the age they supposed to be, Grease won't be as popular these days, it would be some kind of High School Musical. The cast being older manages to attract older people somehow, making them identified with the cast. That's why 50+ people still love Grease, they don't see the cast like "kids" doing kids things. They see young adults making all this easier. In my opinion this won't happen with for example the mentioned High School Musical. The young people that lived HSM won't remember the HSM films when they get older with the nostalgia/identification Grease did, they will actually care a lot less. So again, age of the cast is more important than what most think.
Scorecard for Kenickie this scene: 1) Interrupts. 2) Promptly burps, pisses off Danny. I'm sure his breath smelled terrific. 3) Unceremoniously yanks a table over, grunts loudly, and sits his ass down - without an invite. 4) Makes a snide remark to his girlfriend that pisses her off also. 5) Again without asking, picks up Marty's wallet and starts going through it, pissing her off as well. 6) Makes a condescending remark to Doodie. 7) Then promptly bums a cigarette, despite the fact that he already has one tucked behind his right ear. 8) Before he can even light it, makes another smartass comment directed at his girlfriend. 9) As soon as the food is placed on the table, without even asking, he immediately grabs a burger. 10) Makes a self-aggrandizing comment that falls flat as a pancake. 11) Then takes a bite out of it, complete with annoying sound effect. 12) Then talks with his mouth full, making another crude comment. Gets called a pig. 13) Dumbly looks around with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. 14) For some reason, starts taking onion rings off someone else's plate, tries tossing them onto a straw, fails miserably. (scene end comes prematurely, as apparently he does as well)
I've watched this movie so many times, and only just noticed how Vi raises her eyes heavenwards when Danny says he's not very hungry then orders everything on the menu.
Huge credit to Putzie in this one- he's the only one not being a jerk to his respective date. Danny doesn't want to be seen with Sandy around his friends, Kenickie and his attitude toward Rizzo up to where he gets a shake tossed in his face, Sonny hinting to Marty to pay for dessert, and Doody claiming Frenchy will take everyone out after beauty school and telling her to give him money. Putzie is also not amused by Sonny's "15 minutes" joke because he genuinely cares for Jan (and unlike Danny, is not embarrassed to meet his date's parents).
