Because of these videos, I have tried couching and love it. My idea is to keep a notebook of quilting tips. Make a page for yarn types. Cut a small piece of yarn and attach it to the page and write the size of foot that works beside the sample. When you are getting ready to couch your next project, just go to your notebook.
It seems that I bought every type of yarn that was on your Don't Use List 😩 Now I have a reason to go shopping 😁 I tried your scrappy piecing right on the frame and then did some couching on the seams. It was so much h fun! One of the first things I did once I bought my machine so I want to try it again now that I have more experience.
Using up scraps, getting to couch, and creating a quilt all at once!! Who could ask for more? Oh, but now you have to go shopping to replenish your supplies!! It does get even better!!
Thanks guys! I appreciate you doing this video! 🌷 I have my couching feet and I’ve been collecting chenille yarn colors to do 2 quilts I have planned and designed. I can’t wait to start them, but have a few things to finish first. That lavender yarn that you showed at 10:55 mins in, that you said wouldn’t work, was that Bernat Baby Velvet? Bc that’s what I’ve been collecting for my quilts! 😬 Say it ain’t so! 😮 Also, it was hard to see bc the video was a little fuzzy. Could you see the green thread at all on the yarn? Or did it not show at all? 🧶 Thx.
The lavender yarn unfortunately wasn't in its wrapper so I am not sure what the brand/type was. Sorry. As for the thread showing through the yarn, I couldn't see it. If I were working on a real quilt, I probably would have used a thread color a little closer to my yarn color just to be safe though!!
Ok, it took awhile but here is the update: Bernat Baby Velvet and Burnat Velvet yarns DO NOT WORK well with the couching foot! 😢😭 When the Baby didn’t work, I had hoped the regular Velvet would, bc it’s thicker. But they both have that thin thread running down the center, so there isn’t much for the stitching to catch. It wd work on a reg sewing machine if you were able to zigzag over it. I did try sewing in a zigzag motion w the couching foot, and it did catch it then, but that’s not the look I was going for. I think that is what that lavender yarn is that you showed in the video. Bummer, bc I hv collected abt 13 colors of that yarn to do my quilt. It was going to be a picture quilt, where I outlined the scene with colored yarn. Now I have to rethink the whole thing. I even bought the fabric to match one of the main yarn colors, and I ordinarily wdnt hv chosen that fabric. It’s ok, but it’s kinda meh. It’s a sad day. 😟
Great video , Really helpful especially for trouble shooting - Can you confirm what black yarn you used for the stained glass please? I bought some black chenille yarn but did not work. Also tried on my domestic machine with couching foot and did not work either - So think the yarn is the problem. Struggling to find baby blanket yarn in black. So would be grateful if you can confirm what you used for the stained glass quilt. Much appreciated
Thank you ladies. Great job as always.

That's a great idea!!
Great idea! Thanks
Great video! I've had my couching feet foe a couple of years, never used them. Now I can give them a try. Thanks
OMG YES

I am about to become a couch quilter, after I finish the scrappy quilt on my new long arm. Fingers crossed.
Good luck!!
I tried the Bernat baby blanket and it fits nicely in the large couching foot. Hoping to see suggestions for ones that fit in the smaller size feet.
That super chunky black yarn reminded me of a hairy tarantula’s leg. I was honestly creeped out a little bit, 😝!
HaHa!! I'll never unsee that now!

Thank you for the information can you please tell me which machine you used I have the infinity machine and was wondering how it would work
Couching can be done on all of the Handi Quilter machines including the Infinity. It is the same steps for all of them.

I use the Bernant Blanket Yarn.
What is the metallic yarn - who makes it?
I order mine from Karlee Porter. www.karleeporter.com/shop/quilting-supplies/metallic-yarn-125-yds/
Thanks for this video! I just emailed you with a pic - hope you like it! x
It was fantastic! Thank you for sending it in!
