16 years I’ve been watching this channel and man the crew has grown! How has everything been going for you?
@@chrissoto7187 - Thanks for watching for so long. I am doing well, as far as being pretty healthy these days. However, society has deteriorated in shocking fashion.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives indeed hopefully things turn around, I’ve been rewatching my favorite RUclipsrs videos from when I first subbed. Dude you’ve come a long way it was awesome seeing your first sponsor and the first time someone sent their product for you to review. Keep up the good work and happy holidays!
People ragging on replacing a can opener with a package opener have completely lost the mission.
We no longer need a pocket tool to open cans. We haven’t needed such a tool in 50 years. We do, however get multiple Amazon packages on a daily basis and not gumming up my primary blade with packaging tape is a good thing. Stop trying so hard kids
You are correct, I think people have gotten caught up in cancel culture, they are looking for any small pretext to say the sky is falling.
Who are all these people opening cans that don’t have an actual can opener at home and need their Vic? I don’t think I’ve ever opened a can outside of my home in my lifetime.
And for the people that apparently do, I wanna know the scenario. Are you eating beans in the park? Camping with a can of braised collards? Creamed corn at the kids baseball game? Out on the fishing boat and wanna break into some stewed tomatoes? lol I don’t get it
@@joes8134 - I like to eat beans cold out of the can sometimes… but I usually get the little cans that have a pull tab 🤷🏻♂️
21st century can technology (a pull tab) has made the can opener obsolete.
@@apricity69if every can in the entire world actually had such a thing I would agree, but have you been to an actual store? Half of the cans still don't have pull tabs
I have the companion model in the wood the spirit edition. These models were apparently marketed for women, but I really like the package opener, and the nail cleaner is useful after i get messy in the wild!
I already have a few SAKs and I really don’t feel compelled to get any of this collection. Can’t blame Victorinox for trying to appeal to a wider audience. I’ve never used their can opener, but I regularly open boxes, with any chance they’ll include this tool in their regular pocket knives in the future. :)
I think they should put the normal red scales on it, and drop the price a lot, but I doubt they will.
I believe we will see this tool more often when blade less SAKs are introduced
New York model? It should have a rubber blade, rainbow handle and a certificate stating in no way does anyone at the company use gas stoves and all drivers EVs to work. Yeah I’m from NY😬
NYS should ban this immediately as an assault weapon LOL.
lol. Yeah, I figured NY was going downhill, so I moved to Georgia. It's nice here :)
I open way more boxes than I would ever need to open a can with a multitool. I opened 1 can, just to try the difference between Leatherman and Victorinox. I am curious if this works on bubble packaging like the Leatherman Wingman or Rev's package opener. I was excited to see the new tool and that it had the Scissors and file on the same tool. It's not that big file but it's still a file, which is awesome and finally a 3 layer not Wenger style Scissors with the file. I don't understand why this isn't a win for everyone. Yeah, I hope it eventually gets a normal scale release but if people act like this, it might not get a regular release. 😞
There is nothing wrong with this new knife, the knife community has just gotten old, fat, cranky, and broke.
@WeAllJuggleKnives yeah, I am going to pick 1 of these up. The Victorinox Compact, with the plus tools has a premium price but this has everything I have been wanting. I will be changing out the scales, because the New York Style is sold out but I have been wanting to get some Micarta plus scales anyways for a Victorinox and this is definitely a good 1 for that. Thanks for being positive about this. 😀
As a fan of Victorinox, I will definitely NOT be purchasing any of those!
Great review, ty. I like this knife and most Victorinox models. I just don't need the cork screw, ever. Rather have a Phillips driver in place of the cork screw. "Package opener" is curious in place of a can opener. Sorta miss the red scales.
You mean you don’t get drunk on wine while camping?
I thought my childhood was normal but maybe it wasn’t. 🤔
As a novice fan of Victorinox, I think it's a great marketing ploy.
LOL yup, I mean they have to try to throw in new tools once in a while. I think they should play around with more blade shapes, a few clip points like Wenger did for example.
I'm with you. Fashion over functions.
All Victorinox are great imho, if they offered a version of most of their knives, where the main blade was in a supersteel, they would sell millions of them, people would "duplicate" their favourite knives, with the upgraded model,, I know I would,,
The only downside to the SAK, is the blades don't hold the screaming edge for very long,,.
Regarding this package opener, it's easy to modify the existing can opener, to have sharp edges and do the same thing, I know, I've done it on most of my knives,,
Merry Christmas my friend,, 🎅
It's a Climber with the package opener in place of the can opener at 3 maybe 4× the price, to be honest i think it's aimed at people with money who are buying Christmas gifts and collectors who just have to have it. I can live without it.
Merry Christmas Israel, all the best mate.
Climber for 27 dollars on Amazon. Just bought one.
The Climber doesn't have a nail file/nail cleaner, pen, or the lanyard. This is a collector's edition with painted scales. Collector's editions aren't good values, but it's only $31 more than the Climber, which is not even 2x the price. I'm guessing a cheaper version will come out once eventually. And bear in mind the Compact today is $59 without the special scales, lanyard, and third layer, and the Compact has a really lousy nail file.
@@franticflintstone7999 compact is overpriced, which is why I don't have one.
You hit the nail on the head with that one. If it were 5-10 bucks more than the Climber: instant hit. And we thought the Compact was expensive...
I like the idea of a package opener for use on plastic as a safer alternative to a knife. However, having no can opener would be too great a loss of function for that multi-tool. That makes it a zero for me.
So many brick and mortar stores are gone, and most of us have no choice but to order online and thus open lots of boxes. The new package opener would be a winner for me, especially if it does a good job with those obnoxious hard plastic packages. I hope it shows up on more SAK variants. I like the toolset on the Companion but hate the scale patterns, and I’m not willing to pay extra because of the Plus scales and pen.
I’m waiting for one with plain scales, but I bet the serrated edge is good for slicing up boxes as well. I wish they’d throw in some pliers and maybe a phillips head and this knife would be pretty cool 🤙
Nice review. That said, for the money, I like my Swiss Champs in Ruby and Sapphire.
Just because it doesn’t suit your needs, doesn’t mean it’s useless. I like my Climber but would prefer something with a nail file. Like most people I have a dedicated can opener, so a package opener in its place isn’t a bad trade-off and keeps the main blade adhesive-free. So for me this would be a great toolset.
But the price? Equivalent models are 2-2.5 times cheaper and I don’t care about the fancy scales - I’d replace them with my own choice anyway. It doesn’t even come with the mini screwdriver or the pin. I just can’t bring myself to buy this one until it comes in Celidor scales at a more reasonable price.
Just got one delivered like you said the Paris and the Sydney are too fruity, l like the design of this one and the package opening tool is pretty good.
Excellent, someone sent me some white scales, I might install them on mine.
Put regular scales and charge 35 bucks and it’s nearly perfect. I carry my sportsman all the time because I dig the file in place of the second blade and like that they finally did that on a 91mm
I have a few SAKs. Once this comes in standard red I'll get one.
I have some extra scales in white, I might swap them in.
Is it called "The Wokesman"?
No. It's not completely useless!
Comes in pink and rainbow.
Grandpa's knife had a convenient way to open a can of beef stew or bottled beer,
while todays SAK has an eyelash curler and environmentally-friendly frappuccino straw.
Haha the only people who use the word woke are noodle dick cuckservatives. Glad we know what side of the fence you're on trumptard. 😅
You all are dorks. What do you want on it, a snub nose.357?
I wellcome the change!!!👏👏👏
Excellent, I'm just glad they are trying to invent new tools.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives me too
Definitely different and interesting. I like the handle graphics
I think this is the perfect Victorinox for me! I'm a woman in my mid 40s and a graphic designer (so personally, I love the funky graphics). I wanted a multi tool that could be an EDC for work and everyday life in the city (hence the pen, and boxcutter). I also love to go camping. I live in Greece and camping "in the wild" is prohibited.. especially lighting fires. 90% of the time, we camp in camping grounds.. or illegally near one, so we can have access to restaurants, mini markets and coffee shops 😂 ..so I can't really see the use of a can opener and saw. The hook is ideal for me, as I also suffer from rheumatoid arthritis in the hands, so using it too pry open a can of soda, or pull tight my laces, really is useful. Shame they don't add a pin. Thank you for your review!
Excellent, glad to hear it is working great for you!
"Fruity" lol
LOL, it was the most accurate word that RUclips permits us to use these days.
Victorinox just changed something which is no longer up to date. How many cans do you open in a year? And how many packages? I‘m quite sure that „normal“ people in an urban environment open 100 times more packages than cans. You don‘t have to be rich to order stuff online and get packages.
Anyway, another fact is that 99 % of the Victorinox knifes still have the good old can opener. So, no worries. Greetings from Germany.
Yeah, I don't actually use the can openers. In the kitchen I using a winding opener that is very fast.
my good Lord, did they call the Paris model the Budweiser? this is really only for collectors.^^
Merry Christmas, Israel!
Collector blade indeed brother.
👊💀
SO it means you'll be opening a lot of packages. In a world, where you own nothing and are happy about it, this will be a useful tool.
Honestly, I'd much rather have a can opener and a package opener, rather than a bottle opener and a package opener.
Picked up a climber for 27 dollars. Ridiculous price.
I'm hoping for a regular production model and in black where they can be had on Amazon for around $40. That sounds like the right price considering you can get a black Climber for less than $30 on Amazon and a red one for about $28
Love the package opener on my Leatherman, so a package opener implement on a sak is cool and a modern upgrade because most cans have pull tabs now and clamshell packages are what we deal with more often. But I'm not keen on 75 bucks for basically a Climber. Plus you lose the can opener. And the end of the can opener is your 2d Phillips and small flathead screwdriver because it is a corkscrew model. They should pair the package opener with the combo can opener/ cap lifter/Phillips flathead blade they use on the Compact and Bantam. Surprised they didn't.
Soooo... If that's not something that might be useful in modern times, what do people expect? A XIX musket loading tool? Is that how much everyobody needs to say "back in my days... today's Victorinox is not the same kids..."
Ehhhhhh
Yeah agree with you. Collectors maybe.
Ill stay with my Climber and Pioneer X. Also had no idea about these knives so Thank You👍
Nice! I think it a little over priced for my EDC needs but understand it a “collectors piece.” For EDC I rather have a 3D Phillips but the corkscrew can be useful for untying knots and for microdriver storage. I have heard the package opener can be used in a pinch as a can opener but in this pull tab, easy open world the package opener may be a tool that time has come. Thanks for sharing
“The least fruity”..🤣
I feel like I'm losing my mind. Have people been to a store? Half of canned foods still don't have pull tabs. To call the can opener obsolete is just ignorant. Also a package opener only does one thing, and that one thing can be done by a knife. A knife can do a billion things including open packages. I really don't understand why people want such a tool. It will be a nightmare to sharpen if it's even possible.
LOL i'm just amazed how polarizing this is, people love it or hate it, but both sides are mad at me. I mean ... to each their own, right? Everyone should get what they can from this item, or just buy a different model.
Lol. I see nothing the "package opener" does that can't be done at LEAST as easy with, ya know, the knife blade lol. I mean, I don't normally use the can opener, but at least it serves a purpose. If my regular can opener breaks or something while I'm using it the little can opener would at least let me finish opening the can and cover me until I can get to Walmart or something and buy a new one. And as useless as the package opener might be...they somehow managed to also fit the one tool I consider even more useless, the stupid hook thing. It does look kinda nice though.
I must confess, I never use the package openers on my other multitools, either. But the official reason for them is that they have less chance of cutting whatever is inside the package (but I still just use a utility knife).
Eh, SAK steel is pretty soft. If you’re cutting a ton of cardboard daily you shouldn’t use the knife blade unless you want it to be dull as a doorknob.
@@hithere5553 The package opener is made out of the exact same steel. So if that's a problem for the knife the opener is gonna have the exact same problem.
@@DShiflet01 no, not really. A dull knife will still cut through cardboard, but you can’t use a dull knife for much else. It’s better to use the package opener and save your knife edge for something that needs it.
Hi just wondering if you were going to do the review on the hk outdoors tomahawk soon? Sorry! I’m not nagging just interested on your opinion
Thanks
I would like to, but they have been out of stock for a while, I might wait to see if they get more available.
I like that they at least tried SOMETHING new, even if it's just colorful scales and a tool that's sorta useful sometimes. John Gadget has an excellent video where he talks about Victorinox trying to move themselves into a lifestyle brand and away from just a knife\ multi-tool company. It's good for their expansion, but terrible for knife innovation which is where the overwhelming majority of us fans most want innovation.
For sure. It has become almost impossible to support Victorinox with reviews, because they come out with so few new models that people want, and they sit on old models that everyone has asked them to bring back and they just ignore it. The pricing on their Swisstool multitools has also become too high.
I believe his model is focused on the female customer. Hence the nailthing/file.
Pretty sad that this is their newest series 😢, their sisccors are great but hate how they always come with the parcel hook
How's it going, WeAllJuggleKnives?
I am finding the last days of western civilization to be interesting :D

I replied you. Right here. I saw it go to post. Now is gone.😡 I thought RUclips was everybody's friend.
As part of their plan to eliminate all forms of inequality, they will randomly censor comments according to an algorithm made by the lowest bidder.
OK. Maybe?
I think the target was women but they should have considered something other than the reamer on the back
Well that is definitely going to fail because they are not selling this at any stores that women usually shop at, I only found it at 3 places, all specialty swiss knife stores frequented mostly by old men who collect.
The “package opener” would be useful if you were opening a package containing perishables that you did not want accidentally pierced by a longer blade.
It may possibly help with surgical first aid in the field as a last resort… maybe… if you didn’t want to use a longer blade from fear of accidentally piercing or slicing too deep.
I’m okay with Victorinox putting out this model with their new package opening accessory but I do NOT want them to stop making the models with the can openers.
For sure, it is kind of like the spey blade on some trappers.
Can you still the package opener as a can opener?
Not really, because it does not have the arm to hook on the lip of the can.
I like the package opener on the Gerber dime, and it doesn't look like that at all.
Corkscrew...we prefer wine opening attachment.....😅
Nah
Package opener is a joke, any real man would just use the knife.
Those crappy clam packs are hell on blades though
@@frakismaximus3052 Use the scissors then.
Yup. Also, once you learn how to open a wine bottle with your shoe, you don't need cork screw.
I'm happy with my mod-ed SuperTinker for office use.
I'll stick with my heterosexual victorinox knives. These just throw gayness in our faces
The reality is that because of obesity, most men in the USA are getting unofficial estrogen treatments, and this is not going to reverse itself, so in the coming years there will be an unprecedented increase in alternate orientations.
Клинком нельзя коробку открыть?
I guess not :]
