Chris we just want you to know that you are important, you make the world a better place. We have been watching you for years. We have experienced your highs and lows. As a former cast member (1979-80) and my son was a cast member (Blue Bayou) your constant appreciation for the cast and the parks is heartwarming. My wife and I have just wanted to give you a big hug and tell you that we understand how difficult this trip has been. I used to work for a lighting special effects company that allowed me to do amazing things. For example I designed a lighting effect that was used on Main Street Disneyland. Plus I have driven my personal car down Main Street, all without my wife being able to experience it. I also had to videotape my 1st visit to Disney World, because I was on business and couldn’t bring her because of our children, so I have a very personal connection with your story about this trip. Maybe someday we can meet and tell you many great stories about Disney. Take care and stay safe.

CHRIS! I have a fun fact for you! My cousin was an Imagineer for Disney in the 1960s-80s. The ship in the California version of Space Mountain was originally supposed to me the Palomino from the Black Hole movie, (The Black Hole was also Disney's first PG movie, for what it's worth). Anyway, they had all these lovely drafts of how Space Mountain was supposed to be a fast-paced journey through/around a black hole, with totally different theming to the station and the queue. It was the perfect ride for it, given all the darkness and whatnot. BUT, for reasons unknown to me, they scrapped it relatively early in development of the ride, and decided to make the ship and subsequent theming just like the one in Disney World, sans being a double track, due to space limitations. My cousin thought it was to keep costs down, and not have to create a whole new station and ship sculpture, but one of his closest friends (also an Imagineer) said it was because they knew the movie would come out after the ride would open, and having the Palomino and all the Black Hole theming would be a gamble, should the movie not succeed at the box office. The movie was constantly being delayed for a myriad of reasons, and it didn't release until 1979, despite pre-production beginning in the early 70s. They didn't even START filming until 1976, so if Space Mountain was ever going to be visually linked to the film, it would have been a long wait for guests to have any idea what they were looking at.

I grew up in SO CAL and went to Disneyland every year as a kid. last time I went with my family was back in the early 90s. Watching your videos Inspired me to take my daughter for the first time which we did last month in march. We are now planning a trip to Paris Disney and I credit you and Amanda for the inspiration. I absolutely love your positivity, it is infectious. Keep up the great work, you are amazing.

Helpful hint for rain ponchos: When you take it off, turn it inside out. Have a small eco bag or plastic bag to put it in when going in the stores or attractions. Japan also sells a lot of towels because they come in handy when it rains or when it is humid in the summers.

It poured with rain on the first day of our first-ever trip to Disneyland in Anaheim - we were devastated (and cold - it was winter)! We had come all the way from Sydney, Australia, and we thought our trip was ruined. But then the Disney magic kicked in. By the end of that first day, we were having so much fun on the rides and meeting characters that we forgot about the rain and just enjoyed ourselves. I'm glad to see that the Disney magic also found you in soggy Tokyo Disneyland!

Buy something at the store and get a large and small plastic bag. Keep the bag in your backpack. Then you can pull the large bag out when you need to take off the poncho and umbrella. You can also put the plastic bag, now wet, in a smaller plastic bag (Gallon ziplock bag works best) in your backpack to keep the backpack dry. Pro tip... cut a small hole in the bottom corner of the large bag for drainage.

Dear Chris: We were so thrilled to bump into your Apr 15, 2023 filming of your experience at the Tokyo Disneyland, because, you know what, WE WERE THERE ON THE SAME DAY!!! My husband purchased tickets to Tokyo Disneyland for April 15, because he knew that it was its 40th anniversary (we came all the way from Hong Kong; that was our first family trip to Japan); but, we were met with rains there! (All our shoes were soaking wet like yours!!!) We actually purchased tickets to the Land for two days and April 15 was our second day there. When we searched for videos on what happened on April 15, 2023 at Tokyo Disneyland, we wanted to find out whether they had the parade going on as scheduled; we missed seeing the "parade" because my son wanted to utilize the waiting time to get onto the Buzz Lightyear Ride. So, by the time we finished with the ride, we noticed that people already dispersed and we were wondering if there was a parade going on or not. So, from your video, we found that the parade was cancelled. We felt good that we didn't miss the parade because of our detour to the Buzz ride. We love your talking about the history of some of those rides! Did you stay there until the evening! They did have the fireworks at night as scheduled! Also, they had the alternative Nightfall Glow parade, an rainy-day alternative to the Electrical Night Parade that evening. The fireworks was SOOOOO good! And there were so many people staying there until late to watch the fireworks after the whole day of rain! Well, we look forward to watching more of your videos in the future!

Chris this is great. TIP: for your feet when it is raining. Put your sock on, then put a ziplock bag on your foot, now put another sock over the ziplock bag(this will keep the bag on). Now put your shoe on. The shoe and out side sock will get wet but the inside sock and your foot will stay dry and warm.

Hi Chris! I'm a brand new subscriber. Over the last few days since finding your channel, you and Amanda have brought me a lot of joy. I am planning my first visit to Disneyland in CA for my birthday and your videos have been so helpful! That's how I found you. I really appreciate how informational your walk and talks are!
I am a huge Star Wars fan and I will be going to Disneyland alone for my bday because, let's just say, I didn't have much of a childhood and my family has fallen for the weird and gross rumors going around lately about Disney and stuff.
Anyways, I tear up every time you take a minute to say how much I matter because life has been hard. I haven't given up and have really done a lot of healing and growing into the adult I want to see in the world.
Also, I'd like to thank you for being kindly honest about your Japan trip. You show that even when things don't go perfectly as planned and life gets you down, there is always something positive to take away from any situation.
Thanks to you and Amanda for bringing sunshine even on rainy days.
Safe travels and enjoy the rest of your trip!

Their videos are amazing! They helped me plan my honeymoon to Disneyland last year. I’d been to Disneyland but it’d been over 10 years… my husband was never able to go as a kid and he’s also a huge Star Wars fan so I wanted it to be as great as possible.
One thing we learned from our 3 days in Disneyland, if you plan to rope drop, rope drop Smuggler’s Run. It was our first ride every single day and we were usually two of the first 10 people on it. Plus if you cut through all of Batuu to get there, you might get lucky enough to see it all relatively empty because everyone stops at Rise of the Resistance (just lightning lane that one later). It was the coolest thing ever!
Enjoy your trip! Regardless of the rumors, Disneyland itself is an amazing place. Spend as much time doing research, and most of all, don’t rush around too much trying to get everything done once you’re there… Take the time to enjoy what you can knowing you can always save up to go back again (and will probably want to anyways).

Thank you for the tips! I have been telling my old friend about my trip for months now and a few days ago, they surprised me with a 2 day park hopper pass! I cried! So I am planning for 2 days- 1 whole day I imagine will be spent in Galaxy's Edge. Since it will be in the fall I also hope to get the most of the Oogie boogie bash and fireworks too! They haven't quite released dates on that yet. Besides rollercoasters on day 2 I'd like to hit the new Mickey Mouse ride and the classics like Snow White, Little Mermaid and Peter Pan, so I will be getting the genie plus I think!
I have been doing so much research to make it as stress free as possible since I am an introvert so I'm planning for little quiet time breaks.
I really appreciate your advice to just lay back and enjoy the place! I was nervous making such a vulnerable comment and I am just blown away by the replies of kindness! Thanks again so much! I love hearing about people's happy experiences and their perspective on planning.

This should be mandatory viewing for anyone planning a trip to any Disney Park. At some point, something will happen that affects your plans and the best thing to do is exactly what Chris does here. Bemoan the changes for a sec - it's okay to be mad or sad about missing something! But then move on and enjoy what you can. No amount of hurt feelings is going to change what's happened OR make you feel better about it. I've seen people spend HOURS of their trip complaining to each other, other guests, or every cast member they see about how their whole trip was ruined over some unexpected issue. While there are some things that could ruin an entire vacation, not seeing a parade because it's raining is not one of them. The only way to have a bad time at Disney is to have a bad attitude. Thank you for setting such a great example, Chris!

Thank you for sharing this day; I know you were cold and wet. The food and snacks sound yummy, the folks seem friendly, and the canoe cast members were so nice. In my dreams I can now go there - with your friendship. Best wishes; eagerly awaiting even more from this trip!!

Hi Chris. We felt sorry for you being there and it rained so much. I often carry a plastic bag with me to put our slickers/raincoats in to keep from putting them in my backpack. Just an idea. Hopefully, you won't get sick from being cold and wet! Thanks for sharing your experience with us and not letting the weather deter you too much. You are a trooper. ❤

Some of the effects/animatronics in that Beauty and the Beast ride were pretty incredible, I am going to Tokyo in July but I don't think I can persuade a group of male friends to go there for the day! They aren't as Disney crazy as myself

Sorry everything got cancelled! I had a similar wet day at Tokyo Disneysea a few years ago. I was completely wet, and at a certain point I decided to go back to my hotel to just dry off. I still had some fun, but it was wet, windy, and cold, so I could totally relate to what you were saying. Also, "Minnie's Style Studio" Is where you meet Minnie. You've never been able to meet Minnie at her house in Toontown, ironically, so they created a new greeting place for her. I also missed the music on Space Mountain, I think that has really helped the experience, so I wish Tokyo Disneyland's had a soundtrack.

For me, what makes Space Mountain is the music. I remember in California there was a time when the music "wasn't working" and my dad and I got so excited when "the music came back"
You gotta ride all the mountains when at Dineyland!

Not only because you are such a loving, kind & caring man, but because of the cast members too! Your 1st ride on the canoes was a very special moment for me & I'm sure it was for you to experience. Your joy, the CM's joy, the kindness & enthusiasm that both you & the CM's shared was priceless! It was just a perfect moment & I thank you for sharing it with us!!!

Nerd that I Am. I have a Time Magazine from the 80s. w/ article about the opening. The Japanese word for wonderful is Subarashii. I remembered that. What a great way to describe your adventure. They DO love popcorn over there as well as Winnie the Pooh. Glad you got to do canoes again. Beauty + Pooh I heard are amazing. There are some Pooh vids on YT. Toon Town Cali was fun. Glad to see they kept theirs the same way + Splash. As a former ride op. wet tennis, socks, etc. NOT fun, but we had wardrobe dept. that washed pressed our uniforms. We would shower and change back into street clothes. Still had that stink junior high /High school locker room smell. LOL!
