I am pretty sure MIW has said that one of their inspirations for their music was Breaking Benjamin so yea. They definitely have taken a page out of Ben's book.
I feel like Breaking Benjamin are the perfect example of a band that very rarely change things up, but my god, they do it SO well, that that's totally fine
@evantarracciano4211 Gotta say, it's mad to see the resurgence Sevendust have been having. Thought they were destined for the "Where are they now?" pile, but they've dragged themselves back into a consistent level of decent success. Great to see
They're in the tradition of some of the great classic rock bands like Boston. They have such a distinct sound that even when they change it up ("Ashes of Eden" for example) you immediately know you're listening to a BB song.
My local hard rock station at the time (X103 in Indianapolis) literally played Diary of Jane 5 times in a row when it debuted and I'll never forget it. BB and Linkin Park were quite literally my middle and high school experience.
Breaking Benjamin are probably one of the biggest gate way bands from the mid 2000's for alot of people, id suggest checking out the album "Ember" if you want a slightly heavier sound specifically red cold river
This aussie went all the way to LA to see them live and they did not disappoint. Ben doesn't fly so they will never come to Australia. I've been a fan for 15+ years and they are amazing. Check out songs like Failure, I will not bow, Without You, Diary of Jane, Dear Agony, Breath, Give me a sign just to name a few. They are also working on new music.
I saw them at Rock am Ring in Germany and once in the Netherlands as well. Maybe they took a boat? Anyway that was 2x in a total of like 16 years😂 Hope they come back! ❤
@@koenv306 Yes they took a boat, the Queen Mary 2, it took them over a week to get to the UK lol Australia is a lot further away so I don't see them doing that for us to come here
I had to do the same! Caught them in Toronto while in North America a few years ago. Can admit as a fellow Aussie getting to see them live was a bucket list moment. May have cried a lil in the mosh pit.
@@xanasasis3174”May have cried a little in the mosh pit” 😂 My dude, I’m seeing them for the first time this week despite having loved this band for damn near 20 years. And even though I pride myself in being pretty well composed in public spaces, I have ZERO hopes of making it through their performance of “Breath” with dry eyes 😂
"Torn in Two" and "Red Cold River" are other "heavier" songs by them. Breaking Benjamin got huge in the States with '04's "So Cold." Been a staple on the radio since. The local station here (St. Louis) plays a mix of 90s (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Rage, Offspring, Weezer) with early 2000s (Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, Story of the Year, Cage the Elephant, White Stripes, Linkin Park), and some modern stuff sprinkled in (Bad Omens, Nothing More, Royal Blood)
I think Breaking Benjamin is a fantastic gateway band into the heavier side of music because they got the "pop" melodies in their choruses, you could say, and they have that drop-tuned heavy sound as well!
Funnily enough, every girl I've ever dated who doesn't like heavy music has said 'I like a few songs by Breaking Benjamin' when they've found out that I'm into metal. Every single one. They had wider ranging appeal that I realised during they 2004-2009 period
From hearing "Blow Me Away" on original Halo as a teenager, Breaking Benjamin were my gateway into the entire heavy genre. Their sound is so nostalgic, stoked to hear new music from them.
Diary of Jane and Breath are the two tracks that got introduced to me ❤️ Also fun fact vocalist of MIW got inspire from breaking Benjamin thats why if you dont listen to breaking Benjamin , you'll say i hear MIW on this which is the ither way around ❤️
You should check out their series. Starts with Never Again then Red Cold River, Torn in two then Tourniquet. Also, people have drawn the comparison from Never Again and Masterpiece. Especially if you listen to certain parts of the song together it is pretty similar. Chris sang of song with them live Polyamorous, so they are pretty tight it seems. Glad you guys are diving in can't wait to see your takes on the others.
The absolute joy I had hearing this for the first time the past week. BB has been my favourite band for 20 years, Ben has dealt with so many health issues, this song is just bringing all the good memories back. Killer to see live if you can.
Albums and Songs: Saturate Medicate Ployamorus Water Sugarcoat Shallow Bay We Are Not Alone So cold Firefly Beak My Fall Breakdown Phobia Diary of Jane Evil Angel Dance With The Devil Dear Agony Fade Away I Will Not Bow Crawl Dear Agony Into The Nothing Dark Before Dawn Failure Angels Fall The Great Divide Ashes of Eden Ember Songs 2-4 Blood Close Your Eyes
So, BB has been my favorite band for 9 years. That being said, I suggest you listen to at least one song from each album! Blood from Ember, Bury Me Alive from Dark Before Dawn, Dear Agony or Lights Out from Dear Agony, Unknown Soldier from Phobia, Believe from We Are Not Alone, and Phase from Saturate. These are just some of my personal favorites though!
If you want heavier Breaking Benjamin you gotta go back to their earlier albums like "Saturate" and "We Are Not Alone", the latter which features their first big mainstream hit 'So Cold'. Those albums were less "radio friendly" and a lot more nu metal, in large part because Ben had a massive alcoholism problem at the time and was.... a bit less stable. Their follow up albums "Phobia" and "Dear Agony" were where they really hit it big, but those albums are a lot more melodic and uplifting with some heaviness sprinkled in. Ben had given up drinking at that point, so Phobia was in part him singing about his fears that he might not be able to write good music anymore without medicating, and Dear Agony was Ben defiant against his medical problems, a much more hopeful album with songs like 'I Will Not Bow'. Their last couple of albums "Dark Before Dawn" and "Ember" started leaning back into the heavier stuff more, especially Ember. 'Red Cold River' and 'Tourniquet' and 'Blood' are songs from that recent album that go pretty heavy for BB and you might be into. I would definitely check out "Saturate" and "We Are Not Alone" though, great albums and probably closer to what you want. They were very emotionally and tonally raw, and I'm not sure we'll ever hear Benjamin Burnley really get in touch with quite that level of darkness again, nor would I want him to for his health! The lyrics to a lot of their music, at least those first 4 albums, do sound very abstract and unfocused from any topic in particular, but when you realize that those albums and songs were actually a story of Ben's mental health journey, they start becoming a lot more meaningful. 'Medicate', a song from their debut album, was definitely not abstract for Ben, unfortunately :(
Chris Motionless has gone on record saying the similarity in the sound is on purpose because he loves Breaking Benjamin and Ben's voice and always tried singing like Ben as he got more into his cleans, and the way Ben transitions from singing to aggressive.
Such an underrated band. So consistant to their sound. Nic N put it beautifully " the heaviest band that isn't supposed to be heavy" Also Johhny you won't see them here, Ben has a phobia of flying and they have never toured outside the US :(
I'd check out just about anything from Ember, their last album because that record has some of their heaviest songs to date like Psycho, Feed The Wolf, Red Cold River and Close Your Eyes but if you do want something moodier, The Dark Of You I think is up there with the best slower songs they've done in their whole career.
They are heavy in the sense of the music first and foremost but balancing it with dark and light melodies. The vocals mirror that with melodic soaring choruses but when he does scream it hits perfect in the right moments
Breaking Benjamin and Motionless in White are from the same city. Chris Motionless grew up listening to Breaking Benjamin which is why there is so much inspiration.
Breaking Benjamin are the OG's. It's so hard to pick a top 3 but I''ll throw some out that you boys might like. 1. Diary of Jane 2. I Will Not Bow 3. Until The End
Solid top 3. Until the End doesn't seem as popular but I love that and Evil Angel. Honestly love all of their songs so much. Grew up listening to them tons!
If it sounds a little too radio friendly and not that heavy I think you would like the "Ember" album. It's kind of their heaviest album to date in my opinion, Red Cold River, Feed The Wolf, Tourniquet are all some good songs to check out.
love the band has been my favourite artist since there "we are not alone" album but as for heavy stuff they dont get much heavy than this but give the song "sugarcoat" or "water" a go
BB is by far my favorite of all time they are one of the few bands that has perfected all the elements soft, hard, heavy beats, melodic chorus, screams, etc. Some of my favorite songs by BB you should check out includes Unknown Soldier, Evil Angel, and Dance with the Devil.
You're right about the lyrics, I used their songs so much as inspiration for fictional characters and fantasy stories as a teen because I could make them fit anything haha
Motionless and Breaking Benjamin are both from the same part of Pennsylvania. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area. It is not shocking that Chris emulates Ben's voice and style quite a bit and vice versa.

I love this band. Have so for many years, I'm just finding certain things have a very similar sound to previous tracks of theirs. Not saying I don't like this track, I love it, but after 5 years of no new music, I was hoping for something new sounding. This just sounds......safe. As for recommendations, look up their Saturate album. They also were very synonymous with the Halo video game for their track, Blow Me Away.
the biggest thing I hate about being an Aussie Breaking Benjamin fan, is that I'll probably never see them, as they won't ever come here due to bens phobia of flying

In terms of specific songs, id recommend: Red Cold River Torniquet Hopeless Shallow Bay Breakdown If you are looking for more melodic stuff, check out Dear Agony.
Red Cold River is one of their heaviest - and then I'd check out Diary of Jane because I don't think it's humanly possibly that you haven't heard at least part of that song in your lives; it was like the 2000s emo kid anthem
If you're wanting something a bit heavier, check out some tracks from their last album, Ember. Specifically Tourniquet, Red Cold River, and to a lesser extent Torn in Two, Psycho, and Feed the Wolf. Great songs from a great album.
This song is very standard, classic Breaking Benjamin. If you want something heavier song wise, I'd say Tourniquet, Feed the Wolf, Sugarcoat, Believe, Blow me away. Early breaking Benjamin. Wish I may (1st album)is a must. Heavy song (heaviest imo) Follow (2nd album)is more melodic and catchy with an edge. Topless(3rd album)has a more edgy vibe on the heavier side of rock/alt metal. 3 great songs with different styles showing the change in Breaking Benjamin
I miss the days of hearing Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Chevelle Disturbed, Korn, and others on local radio. The early 2000's were great for that. "Rock 101 KUFO, the only station that really ROCKS"
Blood is a great song by Breaking Benjamin if you want a little more aggression. If you want a lot more aggression, Sugarcoat and Believe have more harshes.
Breaking Benjamin are definitely a gateway band into heavier stuff. They were on the soundtrack for Halo 2. Top three songs for me are Polyamorous, blow me away, diary of Jane
Love Breaking Benjamin. I think you pretty much nailed it, they are heavier radio friendly butt rock band. Check out Polyamorous which was their first hit. Diary of Jane is there biggest hit which I am almost certain you have heard before.
Its so weird because I genuinely think that while originally MIW sounded like Breaking Benjamin, it truly is now that Breaking Benjamin sounds like Motionless in White in my view
"Sounds like Motionless". Nah. Motionless sounds like Breaking Benjamin.

Its so weird because I genuinely think that while originally MIW sounded like Breaking Benjamin, it truly is now that Breaking Benjamin sounds like Motionless in White in my view
Diary of Jane is what I would consider their signature song, but they have other good ones too. Follow and Polyamorous are catchy AF
Funny he said Japanese bands for subtitles and Breaking Benjamin’s biggest following is in Japan
You should listen to Breaking benjamin ft Lacey Sturm - Dear Agony Aurora Version. Such a good song
