This is super helpful -- thank you for posting! It's going to help a lot with the CB&Q 44-tonner project I'm starting. Question for you: I didn't see a stay alive in the installation or on your components list. Did I miss something, or is there a reason you didn't include one? I'm assuming that with the short wheelbase, it really needs one, but I'd like to hear your thinking on it.
@@kevinbohnenblust2930 I have a newer layout where I’m using switch machines with powered frogs on my turnouts. Because of this, I do not need a keep alive, but it most definitely wouldn’t hurt to put one in if you need to.
very nice... just bot a new 70 tonner (Bowser) with 2 motors for $40CDN ...included all parts, undecorated... this video has given me the courage to convert it to DCC ...just take my time... thanks....
Really well done make over... If Rapido wasn't coming out with their super detailed, sound equipped 44 tonner, I'd definitely consider something like this!
Thank you. This color scheme is an actual Bachmann scheme that they sold with the 44 Tonner. This was more of a conversion with sound and added details. I couldn’t tell you the exact color. :)
In this day and age of $300-$400 HO scale, DCC/Sound equipped diesels, I think a "make over" of a vintage Athearn diesel would be great. Not sure if it would look or run as well as a more modern offering, but it would be an improvement over such a basic locomotive and show that you don't need to spend a ton of money (though the make over wouldn't be cheap) to get into the hobby.

Beautiful little locomotive. You did an outstanding job on it.
What a great makeover. Very nicely detailed. And your decoder install went very well. You do great work.
Thanks for sharing this interesting video.
@@michaelsmodelrailroading7665 thank you for the kind words. Appreciate it.

Glad to help.
It’s been sold. 2/14/24. Taking suggestions for my next makeover. What would like to see for the next makeover?

Yup, I've got one on order.
I would love for you to do makeover for my two locomotives ❤
Pretty darn cool ,,,,thanks for sharing
Nice job!
Good video! Had a 44 and 45 ton Bachmann. They didn't run so well. Waiting for Rapido's 44 tonner.
Hi Wally that was an awesome makeover on this little beauty. Do you remember the colors you used on it ?
Thank you. This color scheme is an actual Bachmann scheme that they sold with the 44 Tonner. This was more of a conversion with sound and added details. I couldn’t tell you the exact color. :)
So, you had a Bachmann Tonner Overdrive?
Yes. Ha lol
Is that a commercial programming track?
@@majortomtogc it is, however, I manipulated it from only an
Nscale programming track by moving over the end track and adding HO to it
Did you buy this recently bud as I am in the market for one if u know where to get a version of a 44tonner in HO scale like in your video?.
I did buy recently at a train show but not sure where to get another one at the moment.
Suggestion for the next or future project, Athearn Blu-box SW7 0r SW1500.

My thoughts exactly.
I understand that this has been sold…but I am interested in the cost to have another 44 ton conversion done by you.
Thank you in advance.
Randy
Hi Randy, depending on what you’d like to do would depend on the cost. If you want you can reach me wswiatly@yahoo.com. Thank you.
