Instead of fiddling with excel, just paste the CSV into ChatGPT and ask it to create RUclips chapters for you, with the format 00:00 Solid video keep it up 👍👍
There is one more life hack. Many word processors allow you to select text vertically. These are Word, LibreOffice, Notepad++. To do this, hold down the Alt key and select your text. This is very useful for things like chapters on RUclips. Another simple method is to simply upload on RUclips with the chapter option enabled, you can even upload a draft video if you only need the text :).
Thanks Jason! This was SUPER helpful! For those using Google Sheets instead of apple numbers, the formula is basically the same: =LEFT(A2, LEN(A2) - 3) If you're using google sheets, export a txt instead of csv from resolve and then you can just copy/paste that into a google sheet where you have your formula saved.
Saw this and sent an instant thumbs up! Thanks for this, as I loathe timestamps and markers, but I know they are a big deal because they bring accessibility. --Randy, Host of The Work With Purpose Podcast
I searched for exporting the section of the timeline a span marker is selecting but this is a helpful video anyway. I know how to use Shotcut but for some projects, it is too buggy.
One question do you know if it will work, if you put no latin characters in the chapters will RUclips read them later or is it only for latin alphabet?
I like this method you shared in this video! However, like @HoundDogMech I was wondering why you didn't use the method on the Deliver Page. (I see you answered that question in his comment. 🙂) Thanks for the tip on setting the start timecode to 00:00:00! That along with putting the markers on the timeline and NOT on the video or audio were my missing ingredients preventing me from being able to get the Deliver Page feature to work. Other helpful information I read on a RUclips help page are, "Make sure that the first timestamp you list starts with 00:00; Your video should have at least three timestamps listed in ascending order; and The minimum length for video chapters is 10 seconds."
Thanks for the tips. I would use another formula (=left(A2,8) or so). This would also work with the 00:00:00 you entered in the Numbers sheet (and corrected off camera in the description…very sneak 😂). The chapters don’t have to go into the description, you can also place them in a comment.
Great video! Love the new updates from the last one. Also, just so you know your chapters are messed up from putting 0:00:00 in the text for one of the chapters 👍🏻
Yes, that works. For me I just don't like uploading directly to youtube. I like to render to my hard drive, watch the video a few times to look for errors (which I still miss sometimes, especially spelling errors 😆) and then upload to RUclips. Just my workflow, but rendering right to YT totally works too. 😁
I like that idea, maybe I’ll give it a try. 😜👍 thanks for the suggestion. Even if I render out a real low, Res quick export, just to get timestamps up there, especially if I have a lot of them.
Thanks you very much. It turned out that the order of columns is not the same for me, and the notes column is to the left of the record_in column. This is not a big deals ince I can change the order within Excel, but maybe it means that there is a way to control the order within DV resolve.
Despite following the instructions, I still got the 01 at the beginning and the formula disrupted the order of the marker timeline points in Excel. Maybe it's a Windows thing. EDIT: I just saw your other video about editing the timeline start code in the media pool. I'm curious as to why after setting it to 0 in the User Preferences that this extra step is required? Really annoying IMO.
Help me out someone. I'm in Numbers, (current version). have duplocated the fourmla exact and its not working I get "Argument 2 in LEFT must be greater than or equal to 0." not sure where to go with this now. any ideas?
Yes that works, but you need to upload directly to RUclips for that option….at least as far as I know. I prefer not to render videos directly to RUclips.
Hello! Is there a way to save markers placed directly on adjustment layers that are located on the timeline? I have a problem exporting a Bin. If you export a Bin with markers and then import it into another project, all markers will disappear. Moreover, during the insertion itself they are there, but as soon as I close the new project and open it again, they disappear.
I found out the chapter markers will be encoded in the MKV setting, and although PC media players show the chapter markers and work fine in RUclips they are no good for anything else. For example if you import the encoded file onto a USB drive and try to play on your TV or Blu-ray recorder the chapter marks do not work. All quite misleading really. Another bug in the latest version DaVinci Resolve 19.0 is the timeline starts at 01 hour 00 minutes 00 seconds when obviously the timeline should begin at 00 hours 00 minutes 00 seconds. Think I'll stick with Vegas 21 Pro thanks until they sort the bugs out.
I messed up and some how moved my whole time line and of course all the Chapter Markers are OUT OF SYNC. I know some where I screwed the pooch and can't find How to fix this fopa. Can someone please point me in the right direction. I know how I have seen this problem and if I remember correctly there is a fix other than moving them one by one. I did go to one of 2 backups that were dated yesterday the 24 of april but it is alsoessed up. PLZ Point me to a solution.
On RUclips all you have to do is paste it into your description of your video and make sure you start with the first one as 0:00 (title), then have at least two more time codes after that, and it will automatically appear in the video. 👍
Jason: Why go though all those steps when in the Deliver Page at the bottom under 'RUclips Settings' After Entering the Title & Discription you Check Mark (Chapters From Markers) and pick the color. All your Chapters are automaticly Inserted into your Video as were entered as you typed the Name you entered when setting the Marker Location in the Time line and then doubble clicking it. Then YT also places it in your (MORE) Discription. Much less chance of an error. Other than that Another great QTT.
I didn't either because it never worked. Then I figuered that some how Davinci had the WRONG Signin Data. If I had to go through all those Gyrations to UPLOAD a Chapter list I'd never get it Right. After spending half a day getting all the Auto Generated Subtitles from a 3Minute 22 Second Clip Corrected. Davincis' (Create Titles From Audio) is crap, even after uesing a voice seperator to eliminate the Backround. Then I don't want to fool around Correcting something I just spent another half day Chapterizing.
There is also a script for exporting markers to RUclips format. Very convenient, but I don’t know how to share, my message was deleted here. This is on the bm forum.
@@JasonYadlovski Sorry for my English, I meant there is a script called "Export Timeline Markers", for output txt-file in youtube format from DaVinchi. I tried to share here, but it was censored and the post was deleted. There is such a topic on the Black Magic forum.
Right click on your timeline of choice, point on Timeline and choose "Starting Timecode. Set to 0 and click OK. Now you are good to go! (DaVinci Resolve 19 on Windows Computer)
It's still the same in Resolve 19, in the edit page, make sure you have the index open, select the Edit Index along the top of the window, then click the 3 dots and it should give you the option to export edit index.
It's much easier to export markers as EDL and use one of the many free website available to convert it to YT chapters. And the user script available in the Blackmgic forum is even better.
You are amazing, you are the only person who explain things perfectly
Appreciate the kind words!
So much easier than the way I used to do it... (manually, haha). Thanks Jason!
I hear that! I still do it manually if there is only a few, but for a lot of markers this is a good way to go. 👍

You have the option to export the markers in the export settings when you are uploading the video to RUclips from the delivery page, it's way faster
