though it might a brief explanation yet you made a very good point there Mr. Peter, thank you for sharing this kind of valuable information. Hard skill + Soft skills these makes a remarkable combination that every individual must have to help him/her to have success on a career.

Thanks for the video. Some people make a living in Canada by teaching or couching people and/or companies in soft skills.
As a systems analyst the hardest part of developing a system is to "pull" from the client and/or end user the requirements, the business rules, the objectives, the concepts involving his/her job. It has always been like I am walking on thin ice and at the same time I have to ask the questions and sometimes show where the contradictions appear, "sell" the solution my team and I came up to. This is a soft skill the university would never teach and we can not do without.
However there are many more soft skills that I had never had a chance to learn as it was not needed in my case until recently. One of those skills is to mine for customers needs while I listen to him/her. This may give me a business opportunity as I offer him/her something he/she did not even know they needed the first place.
I have watched another video and this woman made a long list of soft skills. I would like to list them here so that you could analyse all that from the perspective of an IT professional.

Some list perseverance and time management as soft skills, yet by your definition, as they don't involve other people then yourself they are...hard skills? not-skills? As both affect results and no university grants time-management majors...what is your take on these 2, for starters?

Matei Fratila So sorry for such a slow response... this is a great question and a great discussion to introduce. Time management - this seems to have elements of a hard skill - (acquired knowledge that can be learned and applied - like learning how to use a piece of software) and of a soft skill (requiring personal perseverance / discipline / strength of will). Perseverance... this opens up an entirely new domain which I agree is a soft skill domain... I put it into the same domain as willpower, discipline, determination, tenacity, etc. There are 2 great books that dive into these topics - Willpower by Roy Baumeister and John Tierney and The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. I actually filmed this video prior to reading these books... since then I have modified my views on soft skills subdividing them into "Personal Soft Skills" and "Interpersonal Soft Skills". Your question is stirring up some new thought... I think there are more distinctions around soft skills. Would love to continue the conversation... let me know your thoughts.

Syntuity The separation into 3 categories seems pretty logical and exhaustive but it raises another question: How do you measure them? Every skill, be it hard or soft can, via the value you mentioned in the video, be measured by law of proportionality. The higher the skill the more value it creates. Yet some soft-skills create value that is not measurable by job-value or product-value like negotiation skills that affect only working environment "mood" -lets call it- I'm not saying that "if it can't be measured it doesn't exist" I'm more of a "if it can't be measured I won't bother with it" kind of individual. So measurement? What's your take on it?

People Management & manual skills both exist within themselves soft and hard skills. Your wrong and wasting peoples time and energy with your false information. Maybe janitorial work would be more up your alley, or better yet flipping burgers at McDonalds ?
