    Welcome back to TheDriveGuyde where I have the keys to the 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road Premium. This midsize truck had a slight refresh for this model year, the changes include: new sizes for the standard and upgraded touchscreens with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa; new lights and grille design; and the Toyota Safety Sense P system as standard equipment. This test drive highlights the issues I believe taller drivers will want to know before they go for a test drive, and for anyone else, to see if the Tacoma is the right truck for you!
    Please like, comment and share this video with others, it would be greatly appreciated!

    I’m 6’4” and “husky”. I just finished a cross country trip, 2900 miles in my new 2021 Tacoma TRD Offroad double cab. I fit fine in the truck with the power seat and no sunroof. I have 2.5” of room over my head.

    I am 6’2” and I have no problem getting in and out of my 2020 Tacoma TRD off-road I have plenty of headroom

    • @turbogeoduck
      @turbogeoduck 3 года назад

      I'm also 6'2" (with a 32" inseam), and am wondering if you have enough headroom to do the 1.25" riser blocks that supposedly really help in the leg comfort aspect. I've always loved Tacos, but found the seating position rather uncomfortable because the seat seems too close to the floor. I don't think I'd get the sunroof because of headroom.

      @@turbogeoduck Never even heard of a riser block I have a 2020 and the seats I have had a refresh and I have no problem with the sitting position or headroom I don’t know what else to tell you.The seats in my 2020 Are Way more comfortable than the ones I had in my 17 Tacoma TRD off-road

    Owned one for over 2 years. Your review is basically spot on. My two biggest issues were seating position and simply terrible transmission programming. Driving on the highway was horrible unless the road was perfectly straight. Toyota needs a new engine/transmission in this thing asap.

      If you’re that tall and don’t have any problems then you are probably better proportioned than me. I’m 6’1” but a bit short on the legs and extra tall on the body. This means when sitting in my own 2011 Tacoma I’m looking through the very top of the windshield and the rear view mirror is in the way. I’ve been living with this annoyance for 9 years.

      @@carsonabrosimoff6162 As another long torso tall person (6'4) I have been struggling with this for some time. Every sedan and crossover must have a low slopping roofline it seems and I rarely find a new vehicle I can get into without hitting my head. The also apparently must have large center consoles that intrude on your knee/leg/and hip room. I miss bench seats. Would be nice if a least one manufacturer would make a dedicated Big and Tall model.

  • @pacsun23

    Great Video!! I’m 6-3 and I just purchased a SR5 Toyota Tacoma double cab in VooDoo blue. Being tall and owning a Tacoma has it challenges. If you’re tall don’t get the MOONROOF because you loose so many inches of headroom. There is a big difference when there is no moonroof and there is good amount of headroom. Personally I’ve been happy with my Tacoma and the power seat helped me get comfortable with my long legs. I will say if you’re tall and you want to haul people, get a full size truck.

    • @maxlandireviews
      @maxlandireviews  4 года назад +3

      Good point about the moonroof

    • @pacsun23
      @pacsun23 4 года назад +1

      TheDriveGuyde Yeah, I sat in a Tacoma with a moonroof and it was very uncomfortable. When I saw your head basically touch the headliner, I felt your frustration. Good point about the back window as well, but with the added headroom it helps positioning the seat. Also my steering wheel is telescopic and I’m able to pull towards me, it could go further in my opinion. Good review man, it’s refreshing to see a tall guys perspective on comfort in a vehicle.

    You would think that one executive at Toyota would latch onto the idea that if we increase the rear passenger seating by 5" of leg room that they could sell thousands more units to a customer base that wants a Tacoma but won't do it because of the rear seat issue.

    Test drove one yesterday. At 6 1 it felt very cramped compared to my 2019 ranger. Enough headroom? Yes. Way less than the ranger? Also yes. Felt more like a car than a truck inside.

    The steering wheel does telescope but, could use more extension. In hilly country use ECT mode per the manual.

    6'2", proportional torso/legs 34" inseam and look out the top of the windshield of my 2017 OR. Legs/heels go numb from no thigh support and back pain after 20 minutes. Love the MT and footprint but seating is abysmal. I call it my 4x4 sportcar with ground clearance but no head clearance.
    Trying different seat configurations ie. shims under seat (see TW for coverage).

    6’4” as well and getting a 2021 Tacoma TRD Off-Road without the moonroof, which means I also can’t get heated seats from Toyota USA, which is a ridiculous penalty for being tall. I live in Washington Stare near the Canadian border and it gets quite cold. It will be my first car since the 1980s to not have heated seats. Regardless, I love everything else about the Tacoma and actually think the cloth seats look great so I’m willing to give it a try. I tried a Tundra but they’re just way too much truck for my needs.

    Hi Max, is the manual gearbox hard to operate in everyday driving situations? It is not an apple to apple comparison, but the Civic has the easiest, and most forgiving manual gearbox I have ever driven. How does the Tacoma’s manual gearbox compared to the Civic? Thanks.

    • @maxlandireviews

      It's not that the manual is a hard-to-drive system, I just think it isn't well integrated for cabin and pedal layout

      I'm 5,11 and no problems. Even the sr with v6 and 4x4 is enough. Crawl control is pretty much a gimmick and the rear locker while nice to have is not really necessary unless you plan on heavily modifying the truck and or do some crazy off roading and at the point it's best to just get air lockers or a jeep lol. The sr will save you like 6k over the off road and at this point the 6k can get you better tires and a nice lift so it will actually be way better off road than the off road model.

    I'm 6'4" 220lbs and I have found it weird the vehicles that I have and haven't fit in over the years. Some of the strange ones are...
    Fit in: single cab s10 (wasn't bad once I was in), 1983 rx7 (comfortably), nd miata(just barely, would not daily drive it), 2019 Mazda cx3 (the seat bolsters were a little narrow but it worked)
    Did not fit in: 2016 tacoma ext or double cab (not comfortably), 07 scion tc(steering wheel hit my knees trying to work the gas and brakes), 98 Chevy cavalier(head bounced off the sunroof trim), 94 3000gt(literally couldn't even work the clutch), 2018 chevy equinox (the side bolsters of the seat dug into my lats), 2016 camaro (seat didn't go back far enough to get my knees off the steering wheel)
