Just picked up the same exact truck except in the manual. Cement is definitely an awesome color, especially in person. First thing I'll be doing is getting a tune loaded in from Orange Virus Tune to help with the weird throttle response changes between all the gears 👍 other than that, the truck is all around badass!
My thoughts after owning my Tacoma one year: 1. Can’t see over the front hood 2. Can’t see cars under the window line 3. Can’t see anything behind 4. Still wouldn’t drive anything else but a Tacoma.
I have a 2018 Tacoma , with the TRD off road package . I bought it brand new with only 3 miles on the truck, 2 and half years ago. With 23,000 miles on it now, still run like a brand new truck. I only had one minor issue since owning it. I was washing the truck and notice a lot of water inside the cab behind the back seat. The third brake light above the rear windows of the truck was leaking in water. This was 9 months after owning the truck. Come to find out, the 2016 through early 2018 models had the wrong size gasket. There was no recall on this at the time. I call the dealership where I bought the truck from and explain my issue. Luckily, they knew about this issue and had the new replacement part in stock. This took about an hour and 20 minutes of labor to replace that part and at no cost to me. Other than that, I love my Tacoma!
Thanks so much for the info and stoked that you are still loving your truck man! I really enjoyed having it while I did and was a sad day to return it! Such an awesome and reliable vehicle!
My modifications have been subtle over my two years of ownership with my '18. I have a 3" lift/leveling kit with some 285/70r17s, installed a Curt receiver(SR trim did not come with a factory receiver), an Aries headache rack, and some demon shackle mounts with D-Rings for the front(recommend this mod to anyone who owns a 3rd gen Tacoma looking for the ability to mount D-Rings without buying an aftermarket bumper).
I got the 2020 off road with tech, but I wish premium. How much was yours after everything. My was 37k and then all other fees, taxes, license and reg etc =. 39k.
Great video! I have been searching and searching all sorts of random RUclips videos regarding the Tacoma TRD Sport. I just bought one, will be delivered in around a month's time. You presented all of the information I needed in a concise, entertaining and engaging video. Thank you!
Oh amazing man, congrats! They are such awesome vehicles. You should check out my mate Spencer Hogg on RUclips, he bought the same truck around the same time and has a TON of content on building his out. Simple build but he explains it all really well. I sadly no longer have mine so he'd be a better resource moving forward =)
Maaan, I LOVE the latest generation of Tacomas but I recently bought a 2019 RAV4 XSE since it fits my needs better and the amazing hybrid performance + fuel economy is so clutch. Thanks for this rad review! I definitely want to own a Taco one day, too. Cheers!
The departure angle and approach angle are the same, but with the short bed the break-over angle is greater meaning a bit better in off-road conditions. Mine is the long bed and I like the extra space. So far (fingers crossed) I've not had an issue with needing a better break-over angle.
I'm moving to Colorado in March of 2021 and Looking to replace my current rig with a Tacoma. I'm looking at either a used 2017/18 TRD Pro or just getting a newer TRD off road 2020. Should I spend the extra cash for the PRO or save my Money and just add my own skid plates, beefier tires, bed rack for RTT and some other mods here and there? I don't look to do any wild off road driving or rock crawling, I just want to access some cool trails for camping ect. I know I can always add my own suspension later down the road. I DO WANT leather and heated seats though, I'm sure I can add aftermarket and get seats redone if they are cloth too. My mentality is "buy once cry once" and I know the PRO would be a great start to some off road goodies. On a good note though I LOVE the stance of your truck. I think it's perfect without overdoing it. 32'' would be a great tire without huge compromise. .
Just bought a year end 2020 TRD Sport, with a 6’ box in Canada. You can’t get a 6’ box on the TRD Off Road in Canada . I was interested in your exact truck right down to the cement grey colour but with a 6’ box. Had to get a TRD sport if I wanted a 6’ bed. For off roading a 5’ bed is more preferable tho but I have a young family and I needed the practicality of a 6’ box. When I was researching Tacoma’s I looked at the Toyota.com (USA) website and noticed that in the states they have more packages and combinations to choose from. This why you can get a TRD off road with a 6’ box in the states. Strange that most trucks that are destined for the Canadian market are made in the states. Why can’t we get the same range of choices here? Most Canadian Tacoma’s Vin’s start with a 5 which means made in the states, Texas. Many of the Tacoma’s destined for the American market are made in Baja Mexico. Mexican made Tacoma’s Vin’s Start with a 3. That may all change in 2001-22 as all Tacoma production will be moved to Mexico from what I hear. So far The whole family loves the Tacoma. This is my second Toyota truck. I had a 1992 4X4 extra-cab for 14 years. I’m hoping to get the same reliability and enjoyment out of this 2020.
I think you nailed the review. I had a 2017 and eventually grew tired of the seating position and the absolutely wrong engine/transmission combo (programming). I want to get back into one once they put an 8 speed in it maybe. Just a heads up if you're in AB, if your wheels poke out a bit from the body and mud flaps don't cover it all, you could get a ticket. They target negative offset wheels here once in a while for that.
Great information! The first mod you should do is change your differentials front and back to a 488 or 529 ratio! Not sure if dealerships can do it! You do this mode and it I'll fix the transmission problems and better gas mileage
I love my 2019 TRD OR. Went with the mgm color and added a spacer leveling kit with 33s. And yes the ride can be stiff. However I see myself replacing the stock bilstines with a king 2.5 stage 3 setup. If anybody has this did it improve the ride? I also started trailing it and had a blast.
B B I don’t know the brand. I had Les Schwab Tire Center do it. When I told them I had a Tacoma and what I wanted done I wasn’t sure if they even did that. I mean I thought they only sold tires. But then the guy behind the counter kinda lit up like hell yeah. He pointed to 2 lifted Tacoma’s in the parking lot and said that one there is mine and the other is also an employees. We do lifts on Tacoma’s all the time.
Hey brother! Haha 😅 I realized that I said car and couldn’t fix it lol! My bad! Thanks for keeping me honest 😂✌🏼 I haven’t towed with it no, and I’ve got the through through a contract with a dealership so personally won’t keep it long term but really enjoying it!
Just got a silver 2020 TRD offroad 4X4 like yours but no GPS - will use the Android play anyway...Mostly loving it, seat is way better than the Subi forester I had, higher up ride just right, no need at all for the 3inch lift IMO. I think the Trans is just fine, so it shifts for mileage not THAT bad at all, also if you want more power press the ECT button. MY complaint is my level does not have AUTO HEADLIGHT ON MODE, you got to be kidding me Toyota41K sticker truck and that not install ??? So I have to manually turn on and off headlights now, heck my 2014 way cheaper forester had that. Still over all Am loving it and planning on 10yrs ownership AT LEAST
Thanks for the review. What would have been better is if they have the lane keep assist with TSS2.0 which they don’t have. They only have the lane departure alert. Would you recommend the short bed over the long bed? How does the truck handle in snow?
I agree! I actually really loved the lane keep assist. Sad this one doesn’t have it (secretly because it makes vlogging a hell of a lot easier 🤣) ... I mentioned in the video I like the shorter box cuz it fits in my garage better, also the turning radius is much better in the TRD off-road. The truck was amazing in the snow with 4wd. No issues! Love it!
I'm a "bit" late lol.. Currently looking at a used 2020 tacoma trd OR w/ 31K miles on it. Already has the 3" lift as well as the BF Goodrich AT KO2 tires.. IS there any need to regear? I'd use the truck for mainly daily use with the weekend beach or fishing trip on occasion.
are the front and side cameras accessible at all times? or only when in 4 wheel drive? would be nice to use for parking in tight spaces as well as off-roading.
I had so many dislikes about my lifted Tacoma. I did not like the squeaks, turning radius compromised, breaking power compromised and constant alignment issues. The only positive thing that I got out of my lifted 2018 Tacoma was that it looked good and that’s about it. To me it’s not worth the money invested in wheels and the lift etc. Save your money and keep your truck stock.
Thinking about picking up a 2020 TRD Sport. But do have a concern with the motor. How is the 3.5L? It doesn't sound as beefy (or trucky) as the older 4.0L. If you owned Tacomas with both of these motors, I would love to hear your opinion and experience.
I just got a sr5. Too bad they didnt have the sr5 in cement grey, nor the 2020 trd offroad in calvary blue. Other than that. I do really love my sr5 taco. Even the base model v6 is awesome and fun to drive.
Congrats! I miss my Tacoma so much already! Now the weather is finally nice here in Calgary and no off-roading for me =( enjoy yours enough for the both of us 😃👊🏼
How often do you use your bed and what do you use it for? I'm in the market for a 3rd gen since I dont plan on using the bed due to it being composite.
Hey man! Thanks for the question! Unfortunately I had to return my Tacoma cuz I had in on contract and then Covid hit. Wish I could be more help but I didn’t do any heavy lifting or hauling with it.
HAHA! Oh man ya, I make her sit through all my blabbing, she's such a good sport. She likes coming out for the drives though and it's nice to have the company.
😬 Haha! She wasn’t actually upset. We had a real nice day driving out there. Must have seen some upsetting Covid news or something on her phone hah! Thanks so much for watching!
What offset on the fuel wheels if any? And 32s, are they 285/70's? Looks great, nice video. I bought the 2020 trd sport and want to do 3" same wheels and tires.
Dude things badass’ ! Haha!! Honestly I think it suits ya more time to get another 😂 Jk jk but great review man, you already know I’m lovin’ the Tacoma life!! Raptor next? Comparison? 😉
I put all the fuel stats in the description! You’ll love it. Highly recommend a tune to get the gearing sorted better and will help with fuel economy anyway.
mine came with general grabbers. and A CLUTCH. I hate auto trans. I don't know how too drive auto lol. I'm 30. all my other vehicles were standard. I LOVE MY TACO. i do not have the dif lock granted given its a stick. 10 out of 10. yes mine has the lift kit also. doing over 80 and pushing 100 on the highway can be. well. dangerous. dont do it unless your passing idiots mind you. my mpg? 16 or 17 with a stick. ive had mine for a month. winter is almost over and YES i will be taking it off road. issue? price tag. my taco was PRICEY. like a scat pacl challenger pricey. then the taxes kick in lol.
My friends have trd sport 4x2 not a premium package but comes with a sequential turn signal. And your offroad premium package is wayyyyy more expensive but doesnt have. 😢😢😢
Possibly a difference between Canada and US? I think here we need to upgrade to the limited, or the TRD Pro or possibly you could option it from the dealer? 🤷🏻♂️
Tbh I am not sure actually. The dealership put all the mods on for me as a part of a contract. I think is was around $5000 for all the mods but that’s all at dealership cost and rates so maybe cheaper to do it with aftermarket.
Finally a decent review on a Toyota... plenty of reviews that I watched always focus on things that shouldn’t matter. Such as interior specs or Toyota hasn’t updated there engines in years. Toyota’s do have enough power and if you want more power there are super chargers, tunes, etc. you can add to them. I will say Toyota is the last of its kind. Toyota focuses on (reliability) and all of their vehicles are just that.
Indeed they do! I was just shooting with a Tacoma owner and he got a “re-gear” done on his transmission from a local 4x4 shop and he said it transformed his Tacoma!
@@TheCarCreative dont get me wrong I loved my tacoma haha. But the ranger fit me much better, plus I'm a ford guy. Do you have an insta? We should connect @adv_ranger
Sticky plastic interior never looks clean and weird fake leather seats but its a nice truck get the cloth seats and live the smudges everywhere. Cloth seats saves you some money.
🙋🏻♂️ My bad! It’s tough nailing all the words. But hey, I appreciate you watching and suffering through my awful verbiage. Hope you enjoyed non-the-less. 👊🏼
What do you guys think of the new Tacoma? WHAT WOULD BE THE FIRST THING YOU UPGRADE ON YOUR TACOMA??
The Car Creative oh you know just slap some big wheels tires and lift on it eh bud
Bought 1 week again.. first thing I did was the Heritage pro grill.

Amazing! Enjoy it! I loved having mine =D
How much height are you doing with the leveling? What size is the tire upgrade and do you need to do any fender modifications to avoid rubbing?
3:35 i thought the clearance on the short bed and long bed are the same since the additional cab length is added between the cab and the rear wheel
May be true actually, but one thing I did find between the two also was the turning radius on the OffRoad was MUCH better than the sport box.
@@TheCarCreative you can actually get a short or long bed in both the sport and offroad models. It's offered at my dealership

You can use the step to get to the top
Are Tacomas sold (available) with manual transmissions in the US?
Yes
You mentioned that by waiting until the end, you would reveal your gas mileage findings .... "pretty rough" is all we got.
Hey man, you’re right. I put my first 8 tanks fuel economy in the description for you guys to see. Hopefully that will help a little. Cheers!
What are the exact measurements of your tires?
Is there a monthly fee for the connected app?
Hey! I believe there would be yes after the first year or something like that? Whatever it is... worth it!
The Car Creative you say that now then they say $30/mo lol. Thank you. Great looking truck
Haha! Ya it could be something silly like that but the first 12 months or something is free so that’s good for me. 😃
Need help with the lifted Tacoma wheel alignment specs anybody know the right specs? My wheels are rubbing
What size tires? Specs
Its a premium package and it doesnt come with sequential turn signal on the headlights????
My friends have trd sport 4x2 not a premium package but comes with a sequential turn signal. And your offroad premium package is wayyyyy more expensive but doesnt have. 😢😢😢
Possibly a difference between Canada and US? I think here we need to upgrade to the limited, or the TRD Pro or possibly you could option it from the dealer? 🤷🏻♂️
US only feature!!!
Whats the actual Metric tire size?
Nice rig! Stock Gearing?
Yes, the only downside haha.
Where your upgrades cheaper than the TRD pro?
Tbh I am not sure actually. The dealership put all the mods on for me as a part of a contract. I think is was around $5000 for all the mods but that’s all at dealership cost and rates so maybe cheaper to do it with aftermarket.
I'm surprised the Toyota dealer would install a 3in lift on a new vehicle...............
What lift and tire size ?
Finally a decent review on a Toyota... plenty of reviews that I watched always focus on things that shouldn’t matter. Such as interior specs or Toyota hasn’t updated there engines in years. Toyota’s do have enough power and if you want more power there are super chargers, tunes, etc. you can add to them. I will say Toyota is the last of its kind. Toyota focuses on (reliability) and all of their vehicles are just that.
Thanks for the kind words. Glad I was able to be a bit different than the rest 😃. I appreciate you watching.
I though Toyota wasn't lifting trucks with the Toyota Safety Sense systems.
What lift do you have?
Hey bro, it says it in the video but it is a dealerships installed Pro Comp Nitro kit. 3 inch lift. =) Thanks heaps for watching!
You can get a long bed in the off road
TRD Offroad comes with long bed too
Oh shoot! Good to know! =D
I don’t think you can get an off-road double cab long bed in Canada. Only in the USA.
Great video. What average L/100 Km's are you getting with your set up?
Thanks so much! I posted in my description the L/100! I had a hard time getting it under 14.5 though and I drove very conservatively!
@@TheCarCreative Doh!! didn't realize that lol. Thanks for the info!
That trucks got a lot of Cali lean
Agreed! How does one fix that 🤔
Does anyone know the tire specs?
#mostunderratedcaryoutuber20192020
Oh man! Haha thanks so much bro! Hopefully one day it will be rated appropriately haha. 👊🏼👊🏼
got mine today :3
How is it? Did you take it Offroad or tow anything? I’m interested in it to take the dirtbikes out or take a tiny toy hauler with me
@@danielson5045 not yet 😢😢 might next weekend
@@xMrFuzZyKitteH Great have fun!
What wheels are these?
Fuel off road 17”
The Car Creative thanks! Looks great!
First song credit?
Don’t question the transmission, get rid of the gear hunting with a OV Tune. It will drive the right way!
👍🏻
👊🏼
Toyota still needs to Fix the automatic transmission!!!!!!!
Indeed they do! I was just shooting with a Tacoma owner and he got a “re-gear” done on his transmission from a local 4x4 shop and he said it transformed his Tacoma!
@@TheCarCreative the re-gear is with the axles not trans
My first car was a tacoma. I didn't fit... Ford ranger for the win!
Hey man! Thanks for watching! Great to hear a different perspective. 😃👊🏼
@@TheCarCreative dont get me wrong I loved my tacoma haha. But the ranger fit me much better, plus I'm a ford guy. Do you have an insta? We should connect @adv_ranger
Gear swap dammit = 5.29’s!
So no mpg numbers whatsoever
Hey bro, you can see all my gas mileage in the description below. You’ll have to convert to mpg on Google or something.
You look like Drake from (Drake and Josh )
Haha! I’ve got this a few times... 🤣
Awesome Tacoma! Check out the Tacomas on our channel 👍
Thanks so much! I'll check it out for sure!
Sticky plastic interior never looks clean and weird fake leather seats but its a nice truck get the cloth seats and live the smudges everywhere. Cloth seats saves you some money.
who wears tight pants?
🙋🏻♂️
@@TheCarCreative :)
Thanks for watching!
@@TheCarCreative of course! thank you for taking the time and effort to make this video!
His ass looks great right?! That's what I'm saying!
This was merely background noise lol
This dude keeps calling the tocoma a car, dude it's a truck.
🙋🏻♂️ My bad! It’s tough nailing all the words. But hey, I appreciate you watching and suffering through my awful verbiage. Hope you enjoyed non-the-less. 👊🏼

6’1”??!! You need to be in a Tundra bro. Not that little boy truck. Lmao.
No doubt this guy got smacked buying this lifted from the dealer
Got it all for free. 😅 the dealership was incredible to work with.
How many inches is your lift?
Oh wait it’s 3 inches, never mind lol. Great Truck!
