  • This video talks about the another reason for getting Disk layout validation failed while using MBR2GPT to convert the disk from MBR to GPT. The error says "First partition too close to the beginning of the disk" or "Last partition too close to the end of the disk"

The fact that I'm here should be telling how messed up microsofts requirements for W11 are

the solution of shrinking last volume just a shy 32mb solved my issue of "too close to the end of the disk", I tried the ssd alignment and MiniTool said that no alignment was needed. Thanks for this ! Now it shows me a new error "Cannot find OS partition" and I'm going to solve it with your other vids !

the error I get from "Cannot fin OS partition" in the .log said Cannot open BCD for boot volume, I solved it by running cdboot C:\Windows /s Y: /f ALL ,where Y: is your boot partition, normally in true legacy bios, the System Reserve partition is the active boot partition. You have to assign a letter to that partition using Diskpart on cmd or from Disk Management if it allows you.

For this I usually use third-party tools but when I've had to use mbr2gpt, typically either shrinking the OS partition by like 10mb in DISKPART seemed to usually work, if not then defrag/TRIM if HDD/SSD, run chkdsk /B against OS volume, then it'd usually work.
Shrinking a tiny bit in DISKPART fixes a ton of issues because it defrags the partition a bit and can fix a lot of disk geometry problems. It's helped me out of numerous jams. Or sometimes you shrink max, then extend max, kinda depends but it's a very little known and very useful tactic

Hello, I had the same information. I did the disk partition alignment in MiniTool Wizard...and it went through the conversion without a problem. The system got up. Thanks cheers !!!

just go to search type partition select ur disk right click then click delete volume, then right click the right box with mb in it then select convert to gpt. now right click again then click new simple volume. I figured this out by myself after hours of searching watching videos. After all you can right click it again click properties then click volume it shows if its converted to gpt lol
Do these steps when it failed to validate through cmd.

Thanks for watching. This method is for converting disk having boot partition to GPT without data loss. For data disks, you don't even need to delete the volume, you can use any free third party solution to convert disk from MBR to GPT partition style.

I was getting this error whenever I tried to do mbrtogpt.exe /convert. I was trying to convert bios to uefi. My system had uefi before, but one technician came and erased uefi and installed bios. Now even if I choose uefi mode, I still get old bios mode. I just want my system to go back to only uefi. And not legacy mode or uefi mode. Not sure how I can reinstall uefi instead of this old BIOS. I absolutely hate legacy bios and that technician who deleted my uefi.

You just need to reinstall your operating system, if you have the cd/USB
