Fantastic job on this and all previous tutorials. Every time I see this machine in action I am impressed. Kudos to the whole Isla team for creating such a wonderful piece of gear.
dunno if anyone gives a damn but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all the latest movies on instaflixxer. Have been watching with my brother lately :)
Is it possible to use the looper without recording to a pre specified tempo? Meaning, if I was to beatbox at my own tempo without a click and record it would the s2400 be able to loop it and work out what the tempo is even if it's something strange like 93.6 etc?
Hey dudes, is there an updated version of this tute for sampling and live looping in the 2.0 manual? Vid 7 in the updated version isn’t the sampling section. I can’t find it in the play list 🫣Am I missing something here, or is this (outdated) one still current for 2.0? The reason I ask is I recently started sampling with my machine, and want to audition my loop cursor points prior to saving the segment from my recorded sample only to find I snipped off a microsecond and then it doesn’t stretch to my bpm correctly and loop to the beat. Also, what a machine!! And Alex, haha you’re awesome, my bro! Thanks again & love from Australia x
yup, uploading the sampling one today, liveloops is almost ready and the video will be released along with the new firmware as soon as we finish proper testing.
What is the best set up for recording a vocal loop with a microphone? Do I need a microphone preamp? Can I use XLR to 1/4" stereo cable? Or to 1/4" L/R splitter? Then, how do I set up the input channels with the correct mix cable configuration?
Thanks so much for these tutorials!... here in anticipation of the s2400 arrival in the mail :-) So am I understanding correctly that the loop length needs to be pre-determined rather than just pressing a button to stop the recording at the desired length? And if so is "free" length something that might be added with future updates?
When recording normal patterns, yes you can record filter and resonance into the patterns. You can post-edit them in the step program. There's envelopes that can control the filters too.
Can I sample like the original? Can I sample, assign to a pad/channel (track in this case) before I edit it? prior to pitching down, and truncating so as to use the faders to pitch down and truncate? Assigning to a track is important so as to trigger the sample from the pad while pitching, and truncating it. How do I truncate after assigning to a track?
Great videos! I just got my unit a few days ago and your video manual is just outstanding! I had a few questions though: 1) let's say you've used up all your sample memory for banks A, B and C, does that mean live looper on Bank D won't work because there's no more RAM left? Or is the live looper's memory separate? 2) is it possible to use one of those generically available USB footswitches to arm/trigger/switch the live looper, kinda how you would use one of those looper guitar pedals? Or has this functionality not been implemented yet? Thanks!
bit reduction limits the dynamic range and gives it that oldskool sound.Record in higher speed , you save a bit of fidelity when pitching down in used bitrate.
Because the sample rate goes down when you pitch down adding aliasing and artifacts to the audio. Basically you're changing the fidelity. This is what they did back in the day (due to the limits of sample time) and it has a distinct outcome.

Alex, absolute maximum respect for all of these tutorials. You make it seem to easy. I can’t wait to get my S2400
me 2
Thank you for saying!
It's a great unit, you won't be disappointed. 😃

@Hamza Alden Definitely, been watching on InstaFlixxer for since december myself :D
live looping is insane! just that is insane, let alone all the rest of it
I love the song you play at the end! This video may very well be what gets me to buy one of these.
Great vibe, love the sound.
Thanx 4 all these tutorials. Well put together with all the details covered. Much Gracie’s 🙌🏼👊🏼👌🏼
Love The Maschine...and it has his / her / it very special secrets to handle.... #NextGen
Excellent tutorial Alex!
Looping! Great to have it on this. (Maybe the inputs could be Labeled "Classic" and "Modern" on the box?)

don't think so, you could tap in the tempo from your heart

Wow this thing looks so cool. Do the faders and knobs send out midi cc's?
if this was a controller as well it would be incredible.

Alex theres a Resampling feature on the Isla. Also 33/45 in Resampling.
Correct. That was added after I made this video and is covered in the final video I made that talked about updates, hints and tips.
@@AlexBallMusic Thanks Alex
Sorry if this is already covered but can you automate the filter?

Alex why does pitching up before importing make a sound more Retro?
bit reduction limits the dynamic range and gives it that oldskool sound.Record in higher speed , you save a bit of fidelity when pitching down in used bitrate.
Because thats what they did on the original SP-1200 so a sample uses less sample time. Sample time was very limited then.
Because the sample rate goes down when you pitch down adding aliasing and artifacts to the audio. Basically you're changing the fidelity.
This is what they did back in the day (due to the limits of sample time) and it has a distinct outcome.
@@AlexBallMusic Thanks. :)
Hi. The last song, did you record it on the machine with the live looper or on the computer? Thanks
Q: Is the maximum Loop length locked to the Beat pattern length?
Great!
I’m having trouble getting my record player to sound clear through the s2400 can anyone help me out ?
Never mind it looks like my excitement caused me to miss a step
Do I need a turntable with a built in preamp to sample with this machine ?
It's got RIAA preamps built in as well as a grounding pin :)
luuuuuuurvely
Why no earth for phono? No huuum as my Technichs sl 1200 without it?
There is one on the rear, I just forgot to mention it.
Why not just use a dj mixer? I would think most people have one anyway.
@@sgtcreasegrease you can do it with or without a DJ mixer, it has RIAA preamps in the s2400 :-)
damn that song had me fucked up! that shit was heat
